Donald Trump: ‘We Can Build the Wall in One Year’

37

President Donald Trump doubled down on his border wall plans during a meeting at the White House on immigration, telling his Department of Homeland Security secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, that he could get it done in a year.

And, he added, she should stop telling Americans that it would take seven years to build.

The talk came as Americans supportive of Trump were growing a bit wary of his shift on DACA. Trump, from the campaign trail, spoke harshly of the Barack Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, saying it was brought into existence illegally, by executive order.

Story continues below advertisement

He vowed to put an end to the program. In September, Trump’s Homeland Security announced it would stop taking applications.

This week, a federal court in California ruled the White House would have to continue processing expansion and renewal DACA applications, and that authorities couldn’t deport existing program recipients. The court also ruled the White House did not have to process applications for those who’ve never been a part of DACA, however.

And at a separate White House meeting on immigration with lawmakers, Trump suggested he would “take the heat” for Republicans and Democrats who might anger constituents with a deal that gave DACA recipients a right to stay in-country — an amnesty provision — and that he would sign a bipartisan bill on the program if congressional members sent one to his desk.

But he also wants the wall. And he made that clear during this same meeting.

Breitbart has more:

During a meeting at the White House on immigration, President Trump told Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen never to “mention seven years again” in reference to the timeframe that DHS claimed it would take to construct a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“I can build it for less,” Trump said in regard to the recent DHS report which stated that it would cost them $18 billion to build the border wall.

“I must tell you, I’m looking at these prices and somebody said $42 billion,” Trump said. “This is like the aircraft carrier. It started off at a billion and a half and its now at $18 billion. No, we can do it for less.”

The DHS report, released by Nielsen, also noted that it would take 7 to 10 years for the border wall along the southern border to be constructed and finished, an estimate that Trump said he never wanted to hear mentioned again.

“We can do a great job. We can do a great wall, but you need the wall and I’m now getting involved. I like to build under budget, okay. I like to go under budget, ahead of schedule.”

“There’s no reason for 7 years, also.” Trump said as he looked and motioned at Nielsen. “I heard the other day, please don’t do that to me. Seven years to build a wall?! We can build the wall in one year.”

“Yes sir,” Nielsen responded.

“And we can build it for less much money than what they’re talking about,” Trump said as he leaned in to tell Nielsen.

“There is no reason to ever mention 7 years again, please,” Trump told Nielsen.

“I heard that I said I wanted to come out with a major news conference Tom, yesterday,” Trump said, pointing at Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), an ally of the president’s pro-American immigration agenda.

“It could go up quickly, it could go up effectively…” Trump said.

Let’s do it! 🙂 … to build a BIG beautiful wall (for protection) as in Mexico (to stop Guatemala illegal immigrants) Israel & Egypt to stop Gaza ‘terror’ists https://quran.com/8/12-17 -> now (nearly) ZERO suicide attacks, rational for it: http://sunnah.com/bukhari/56/33-35 https://quran.com/9/111

Work expands to fill the time allocated to do it and always takes more than the budget. Time to stop doing things the way they always have been done, do things the way they should be done, budgets, schedules, accountability.

Although, I’m not a particular fan of Coulter, I have to agree with her on this one. When I watched Trump, and he stated that there could be a clean “daca” bill .. to be followed by “comprehensive immigration reform” … I could have shot my monitor. Just like Ronnie-the commie-Regan … give amnesty .. to be followed by border security that never materialized. I feel as if he (Trump) sold us down the river. Torch and pitchfork time.

If Trump goes soft on DACA it’ll be because he has to, not because he wants to. Would you rather have Trump stand firm on DACA and the wall but wind up with neither? Or would you rather he negotiate DACA and we get the wall? We don’t live in an autocracy where he can get everything he and we want, folks. I don’t like DACA either but I blame Democrats and RINOs, not Trump.

It’s not trading DACA for the wall, the end of chain migration and eliminating the lottery. He said that he would look at straight daca legislation … and THEN go after the rest. Just like Ronnie-the Commie-Reagan and that bastid’s amnesty. I will place blame on someone that has veto power and doesn’t use it.

He was asked if he would sign a DACA bill without the wall. Is one word answer was “no”. Then he said but it will include the wall. No wall – no DACA. What does seem shaky is whether the DACA reform bill would have to eliminate chain migration. But Trump is using the club of DACA expiration to force funding for the wall.

I watched the bloody televised “session”. What he said to Senator Feinstein had nothing about tying the wall or, of greater importance, ending chain migration and the lottery … It was, yes … a good bill and then the others can follow. I could search for some audio/video to post, but you can readily find those quotes. He sold us down the freakin’ river.

Watch it again. The media asks him twice for clarification about what he said specifically to Feinstein. In both cases, no wall, no border security, he won’t sign. Further every time during the exchanges Trump makes it clear that a “clean DACA” bill must include wall funding and border security The end of chain migration, and the end of the immigration lottery is a little looser, but in his remarks after award he specifically included those as part of any DACA bill he’d sign.

Seriously, with the square miles and infrastructure that Marin County holds .. there should be room for at least 2500 Somali “refugees”. I am certain, that once the residents meet and understand them … get to know them, so to say … they’ll find room for five thousand.

Today in the USA rent is unaffordable for many people. Home prices are exploding. We do not need even 1 more immigrant from anywhere!

Although my property taxes have increased by over twenty thousand US Yankee Greenback Dollar, per annum, just in the past six years … (most of these damned voters never met a levy that they didn’t like), I haven’t raised my rents. Not that I like having my income drop by twenty large per year .. but … it is what it is.

Unfortunately, even in Marin, there are low income ghetto areas, growing like cancers, which will probably eventually destroy the place. In Marin City, for example, the black street gangs even shoot at plumbers coming to fix the facilities in their buildings, so you get a no-go zone for plumbers there. There are no-go zones throughout the SF Bay Area for Pizza deliver and taxi service, for example, as the drivers are liable to be robbed, shot at, and their vehicles car-jacked.

From the sounds of the meeting yesterday, Trump isn’t really serious about the wall. That’s OK. If the goobermint fails to protect the border, eventually WE THE PEOPLE will be forced to do it ourselves.

Always keep in mind the one thing migrants/refugees/lottery winners, etc. all have in common — They are Democrat voters. Schumer, Pelosi, et al don’t give a rat’s behind about the DACAs or Dreamers. It’s all about keeping their crusty butts in power. Period.

President Trump knows that of which he speaks. He has a career as a builder and according to his “The Art of the Deal”, he knows how to come in on time and under budget on construction projects. There are three ways to do things, the right way, the wrong way, and the government way. He favors the first choice.

Private enterprise is the way to go if you want to get something done, i.e. Bounty Hunters for any problem population which the law wants removed:
— Illegals,
— Muslims,
— Beggars to be taken to the county poor farm,
— Insane taken to the local insane asylum etc.

Government employees have no incentive to do anything. Government employees get paid a salary regardless of whether they do any work or not.

With bounty hunters, they get paid exclusively by the head. Very results oriented.
