HBO’s Bill Maher, who normally speaks on the side of the left and bashes both Republicans and President Donald Trump with regularity, publicly sided with the White House on Jerusalem.
In somewhat surprising remarks, Maher actually gave praise to Trump on his decision to move the U.S. embassy to Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

On the “Real Time” show on HBO on Friday, host Bill Maher praised US President Donald Trump’s decision last month to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
“I hate to agree with Donald Trump, and it doesn’t happen often, but I do. I don’t know why Israel — it has been their capital since 1949, it is where their government is. They’ve won all the wars thrown against them. I don’t understand why they don’t get to have their capital where they want,” Maher said.
The discussion wasn’t without its haters, though.

New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg quickly shot back, “Really, you don’t understand that? First of all, when you win a war you don’t get to take the other side’s land.”
“Actually, you do,” argued Maher. “Especially because they were attacked. I mean the country was divided, which they were okay with. They were attacked more than once and they took land in those wars that they won and there has been peace offers on the table ever since to give part of that land back.”
Later in the discussion Maher argued that the Palestinians were the hindrance to peace in the conflict saying, “But the essential thing that is making the two-state solution impossible is that one party is perpetually hostile, a coiled snake.”
Goldberg shot back by imploring Maher to go to the West Bank and see the occupation with his own eyes before jumping to such conclusions, “You’re a rich person, you should go see what life in the West Bank is like. Go to Hebron. Like, no, go see it.”

I don;t agree with this asshat but he is one of the few Liberals who has spoken against and questioned jihadi menace.

Good. But sam harris has turned apologist for islam , maybe under threat or for money like Tommy robinson from UK.
Jihadi have more than one trick up their sleeves to stop anti-islam advocates. Its either smear, slander , threat or buy them out.

“if you win a war you do not get to take the land”. She never studied WW1 and WW2? Historically wars are all about land so what history is she looking at? America exists because it warred with natives, French, British(twice), Spanish, Mexicans, itself. This is the kind of rhetoric which should people should be sued for as it is provably false (lies). Almost every country that exists today was once different in geography. Some countries like Iraq to name just one never even existed before WW2, even in the historical record. It was a complete construct of the Allied powers. Ottoman empire collapse after WW1 has reduced itself down to Turkey but for almost a thousand years it was “yuge”!! Anyone who thinks wars are not about land like this Michelle Goldberg should go back to kindergarten and draw with crayons.

That B. Maher would agree with what Trump did, let alone announcing it on television, is quite something. But, I’m sure Bill will have plenty of negative things to say in the next three year’s of Trump’s presidency.

I use Mr. Maher to make my point when I talk to my liberal friends about Radical Islam.
I also use Atheists like Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennette , and Christopher Hitchens. and Ayaan Hirsi. These are the TOP atheists in the world, so quoting them to a liberal at a college campus can be effective.

I’m a liberal, too, and I, like Maher, approve Trump’s decision on Jerusalem. Only those who are wearing ideological blinders — and they exist on both the left and the right — refuse to acknowledge that their oppoinents’ views and policies have arguable merits as well as faults, and often differ only in degree or nuance from one’s own policies.
The sad part is that there is so much demonization and de-legitimization of one’s opponents going on, not just between left and right in the US, but for instance between Israel and the Israel-haters. Trump is not a complex man. The one prime virtue of his assertively blustery approach to everything is his willingness to ignore the conventional wisdom and do things like this.
Unfortunately, the “conventional wisdom” actually is more often right than wrong, so don’t think it’s always a good thing to defy convention like Trump does. He does it to please his base, with very little intellectual grasp of the nuances of his actions. But regardless of his reasons, this time he hit one out of the park, and I applaud him for doing so.
