U.N. Council To Call to Reverse Trump’s U.S. Jerusalem Decision

53

The U.N. Security Council is reportedly mulling a draft resolution aimed at reversing President Donald Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

It was December 6 when Trump made the historic announcement:

A vote on the measure is set for Monday.

Story continues below advertisement

But it doesn’t really have a chance to pass.

So once again — the United Nations is bringing forward a largely symbolic gesture aimed at face-slapping America and Israel.

Reuters has the story:

The United Nations Security Council is considering a draft resolution that would insist any decisions on the status of Jerusalem have no legal effect and must be rescinded after U.S. President Donald Trump recognized the city as Israel’s capital.

The one-page Egyptian-drafted text, which was circulated to the 15-member council on Saturday and seen by Reuters, does not specifically mention the United States or Trump. Diplomats say it has broad support but will likely be vetoed by Washington.

The council could vote early next week, diplomats said. A resolution needs nine votes in favor and no vetoes by the United States, France, Britain, Russia or China to pass.

Trump abruptly reversed decades of U.S. policy this month when he recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, generating outrage from Palestinians. Trump also plans to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.

After the decision, Arab foreign ministers agreed to seek a U.N. Security Council resolution. While the draft is unlikely to be adopted, it would further isolate Trump over the Jerusalem issue.

The U.S. mission to the United Nations declined to comment on the draft. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has praised Trump’s decision as “the just and right thing to do.”

The draft U.N. resolution “affirms that any decisions and actions which purport to have altered, the character, status or demographic composition of the Holy City of Jerusalem have no legal effect, are null and void and must be rescinded in compliance with relevant resolutions of the Security Council.”

It calls upon all countries to refrain establishing diplomatic missions in Jerusalem.

Israel considers the city its eternal and indivisible capital and wants all embassies based there.

“No vote or debate will change the clear reality that Jerusalem” is the capital of Israel, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, said in a statement.

Palestinians want the capital of an independent Palestinian state to be in the city’s eastern sector, which Israel captured in a 1967 war and annexed in a move never recognized internationally.

The draft council resolution “demands that all states comply with Security Council resolutions regarding the Holy City of Jerusalem, and not to recognize any actions or measures contrary to those resolutions.”

A U.N. Security Council resolution adopted in December last year “underlines that it will not recognize any changes to the 4 June 1967 lines, including with regard to Jerusalem, other than those agreed by the parties through negotiations.”

That resolution was approved with 14 votes in favor and an abstention by former U.S. President Barack Obama’s administration.

Perhaps Trump will change the capital of India next. He has the crazy idea that he is empowered to change the capital of foreign countries when it has got nothing to do with him.

Exactly, whenever muzzies are in majority they kill hindus. Today they are in minority (15%) and are hypocritically demanding “minority rights” and “freedom of religion”. We HINDUS are too peaceful and fall for their trap everytime. I can guarantee that when muzzie population in india goes above 50% they will start a war on hindus again. Idk why our politicians dont learn

Neither do the people of Europe. Jihad is a never ending war until islam is everywhere. Muslims would never give minority rights. Islam is hypocrisy. All lies…..All evil. Tolerance is suicidal. The only way to face islam is being armed with the the knowledge of history. But sadly most people want to “feel good” about the hope of getting along. Which is a destructive fantasy.

There really should be a large sign above the entrance to that place reading {in Latin for the classically educated}

WHEN IN A HOLE, STOP DIGGING.

It’s not beyond the wit of man to foresee the time when Mr Trump will throw up his hands exclaiming “Stuff this, we’re
off” leaving 22% of the budget unfunded before ordering the whole useless talking shop out of NY.

If the countries represented there were self funding, respected and helped their people and honoured the rule of law {as we understand it} America’s money would be unlikely to be needed, but I’m personally getting pissed off being told MY faults by those who rape their sisters, throw gays from high buildings and demand my cash to feed their own.

Start devising a “Plan B”.

I sure would like to know what the average staffer at the U.N. does on a daily basis. Besides looking official for the cameras in that big room, with their country’s name badge in front of them, WTF do they actually do?

I’ll bet as soon as those cameras are off, they are on their cell phones, arranging late-afternoon hook-ups and the like.

My daughter worked at the UN in Botswana one summer. She said that no one does anything. They have stupid meetings all day that should take 5 or 10 minutes but instead take hours. They also have lots and lots of holidays. Why not? The USA is paying for it.

All the more reason to turn the U.N. building into a giant outlets mall, complete with Starbuck’s, ice-skating rink, and an islamic repatriation office to help the muslims GTFO of the U.S.A.

The UN does this because there is no real disincentive not to. If Trump would immediately pull ALL funding (not just from an agency here and there) from the entire UN cesspool, perhaps things may change. Until every last American dollar is pulled from the UN, it will continue to be corruption as usual.

Although, I’m not sure that Truman was stupid. At the time, the first part of the 20th century, after 2 devastating world wars, the idea of an organization to try and resolve problems outside of war seemed reasonable. The UN quickly devolved from a decent idea to a cesspool of corruption, fraud and greed and a venue that does nothing but bash America and Israel while lauding every terrorist, thug, despot, etc. as heroes.
