United States Cuts UN Budget by $285 Million

63

Truly the season of miracles (under President Trump, that is).

President Trump is standing by his word. A majority of  anti-freedom, antisemitic nations at the UN voted against the U.S. this week. Why should we fund out enemies?

285 million is a good start. Harder, faster!

Story continues below advertisement

Ambassador Haley on the United States Negotiating a Significant Reduction in the UN Budget

United States Mission at the United Nations, December 24, 2017:

Today, the United Nations agreed on a budget for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. ‎Among a host of other successes, the United States negotiated a reduction of over $285 million off the 2016-2017 final budget. In addition to these significant cost savings, we reduced the UN’s bloated management and support functions, bolstered support for key U.S. priorities throughout the world, and instilled more discipline and accountability throughout the UN system.

“The inefficiency and overspending of the United Nations are well known. We will no longer let the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of or remain unchecked. This historic reduction in spending – in addition to many other moves toward a more efficient and accountable UN – is a big step in the right direction. While we are pleased with the results of this year’s budget negotiations, you can be sure we’ll continue to look at ways to increase the UN’s efficiency‎ while protecting our interests,” said Ambassador Haley.

I believe what we are failing to see is what good use
could we put this union of nations to, in order to make a real attempt to right
the wrongs that are happening around the world. I see that as the goal, and if
turning off the money spigot can accomplish some of that I hope that can
happen. Without getting caught up in the quagmire of socialist Shangri-La
thinking, I believe that the focus of the U.N. must be rechanneled back to
dealing with the concepts of Humanity. If we cannot do that the U.N. will remain
a worthless place where rhetoric and no sensible behavior prevails. That should
be the place where truth is the rule, never the exception. That is the place
where those right thinking and reasonable people must face and speak the truth.
Some of those truths that must be discussed openly and debated is philosophies
that are causing serious grief to this world that we live on. Those today
include the fact that a good portion of the world sees Islam as a belief system
that has as its conduct the promotion of its false concept of superiority,
domination (which includes slavery) an antiquated legal system that they want
the world to abide, the treatment of women as chattel and nothing more than
property, a hate of non-Muslims, especially those of the Jewish persuasion, all
of which makes their people inappropriate citizens within free world societies.
These issues should be debated at the U.N. without reservation, because I
believe it is the only place where the world can finally move to reject and
reform a society that has been poisoned by its belief system. Additionally,
things like the conduct of the North Koreans and there unnecessary nuclear
ambitions should be actively discussed in a way that the world can finally get
together and end that threat, as all the resolutions passed seem to be having
no effect, especially when there are nations out there that refuse to abide the
resolutions. Simply put, all the nations should say things as they are. All the
nations should use that forum to be able to express their critical views and
earnestly try to convince the other nations of the propriety of what they see
happening, and try to get all the other nations to move to save this planet
from the evil that now exists out there. Turn off the money spigot, while simultaneously
moving this organization to what its intended goal has always been: peace on
earth. Right now I see our ambassador Haley as being the perfect individual to
state our critical views openly and directly, and unless the U.N. comes to the
right conclusions and realizes that it must actively recognize what this world
is facing from the active evil that exists, our species is in trouble.

This has been voiced by many for years and years. The un-united nations have done nothing for us since just a few years after its inception. Those in office would not approve “getting out” of the un. Too much money in their pockets. I’m just glad to see a step in the right direction by taking some of the $$ away from them. As I said, it is a STEP….needs more walking though.

I don’t believe that most individuals, residing in the United States of America, grasp the amount of our taxpayer funded contributions to the UN. You will hear how it approximates slightly less than Seven Hundred Million US Dollars. However, that is simply the commencement. Of the annual “peace keeper” budget … approximating 7.8 Billion, the US pays around 28%, or 2.2 Billion US Dollars. Then, there are the World Health Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization and the International Atomic Energy Agency, for which we kick in around 100 million US Dollars per year. All told, the US contributes around 3.3 Billion US Dollars, per year. Of course, there are substantial expenses from locating the UN in NYNY … which does not even come into account. So, just for starters … 3.3 Billion would be a decent annual cut in our contributions ….

While I see this reduction as appropriate, I see it as what a business that tries to run profitably would be doing in the course of managing the business. What I believe what we are failing to see is what good use could we put this union of nations to in order to make a real attempt to right the wrongs that are happening around the world. I looked up the US contribution to the UN on Google and it is said to be $8 billion annually. The Google link is to a Fox news story:
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2015/06/16/america-pay-way-too-much-for-united-nations.html

$285 Million is only about 3.6% of that total contribution. So this reduction is more symbolic than significant measured purely in numbers, though it sends a message and is a step in the right direction.

This conduct of the U.S. and Israel in announcing its
resignation is understandable. Yet, I wonder whether that alone will change
anything. As I have stated many times, I believe that the action needed is
active debate within the U.N., where critical views can be appropriately stated
and debated, as I believe, short of conflict, the U.N. is still the place where
the world comes together, and maybe the only place where the people living on
this world can accomplice peaceful resolutions to the evils that exist out
there. I certainly agree that the U.N. has allowed itself to be overwhelmed by
countries that distort reality and are guided by very dangerous and antiquated
belief systems, but it still remains the only place where right thinking people
can meet and openly express why they are critical of the conduct of this
organization. I can only hope that what is being done to UNESCO will filter
back to the U.N. and begin to open the door to an understanding that the bias
and prejudice expressed by many of those nations that accept a system of belief
that is simply false and shameful must be reformed by taking an approach that
accepts reality and accepts history as it is, not as they have falsified for
their obscene benefit. Unless that happens, the U.N. will sink into its own
quicksand, and disappear.

$285M out of a total of $10B. Yeah, that’ll really send a message to the U.N. that the U.S. means business. Just means that the U.N. cafeteria may have to stop serving chocolate mousse everyday, and instead serve it only every other Friday.

The UN’s budget is $5.396 BILLION. The budget was reduced by $285 million. Two things… that does not mean the US share is reduced by $285 million. Also if you consider the relative size of $5.396 billion compared to $285 million, it’s in the same category as the farce of the bailouts foisted on us, beautifully illustrated at
https://www.youtube dot com/watch?v=3dl1y-zBAFg
I recommend anyone that wants to get a good handle on what this reduction is actually worth watch the video. The reduction is not that much more than somebody winning the lottery and I doubt it is all coming off the US share. Don’t be fooled by so much hype over a little bit of fluff!
