Government authorities in the city of Cologne think they have stumbled on the way to keep mostly Muslim migrants from sexually assaulting women on New Year’s Eve — by distributing wristbands that speak of “respect” and tolerance for one another.
Boy, that’s almost as good as an armed police officer, isn’t it? (Insert sarcasm here.)

The city of Cologne has announced they will be handing out “respect” wristbands to encourage understanding between individuals on New Year’s Eve and prevent the kind of sex attacks that occurred in 2015.
The wristbands are part of a new campaign called “respect” which is sponsored by the city government and controversial Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker. Many have slammed Reker and the campaign on social media likening it to comments she made shortly after the 2015 attacks calling on women to keep men at “arm’s length”, Kronen Zeitung reports.
At a press conference, Reker said that the campaign would focus on telling people not to sexually attack others or shoot fireworks at individuals, buildings or police. The wristbands themselves are meant to inform others to be respectful when approaching the wearer and prevent potential sex attacks.
On social media, some users reacted to the move with scorn and criticism. One user asked the city of Cologne and Mayor Reker, “What are you doing? Is this appeasement, a gesture of submission or the self-stigmatizing of a culture that is surrendering?”
On New Year’s Eve around 3,000 police are expected to be on duty in Cologne as well as 400 employees from private security firms to maintain order.
Cologne police chief Uwe Jacob said, “We expect a similar occurrence as in the previous year,” and noted that police were prepared for drunken party-goers adding, “I do not care about the nationalities of the revellers, with all due respect. The rules apply to everyone.”
Last year the Cologne police dramatically increased their presence and the level of security around the central Cathedral which led to a rapid decline of sexual and violent incidents.
Despite the decrease in the number of crimes from 2015, which saw over 1,000 incidents, police were accused of racial profiling because they labelled suspects from a migrant background “Nafris” which was seen as a slur toward North African migrants.

That’s ok. This year, the migrants will probably be out in greater numbers. The crimes will increase and the mayor will come out again with some idiotic response like “ask your potential attacker what his intentions are before you bother the police.”

The previous advise by the Cologne mayor was that all you have to do is to keep the rapists at arms length. This arm band thing is even better. All you have to do is to show the arm band which shows the word of “Respect” Ironically the letters, being in different colors in a dimmer light show the word of “Rape it”. This is not a joke, you can find a photo of the band on the web. i found it on “Pegida Hamburg”. Just hilarious if it would not be so serious. One wonders what are they putting in the drinking water to turn the Germans so stupid and pissweak. I am a German and used to live in Germany as a young man 51 years ago. In my time there no arm bands would have been needed. We would have dealt successfully with this problem as we did with some of the early misbehaving guest workers. I just don’t know what kind of men who cannot even protect their own women they are breeding in Germany today ??.

One of the charateristics of a grosse messer was it being full tang, designed more like a knife, having no pommel. Their popularity was from a time when only the nobility were allowed swords. However, due to the design, somehow the blade fell through the cracks and was carried by nobles and peasants, alike.
Grosse messer (meaning “great knife”), a single-edged sword sharing characteristics with both the falchion and the saber. A great variety of sizes can be documented, from single-handed examples, to hand-and-a-half proportions, and even as full-sized two-handers. Many of them were fitted with a straight single-edged blade, others with curved saber blades, while still others had thick blades that swelled towards the point. They were often equipped with a curved cutting edge or a sharpened back-edge.
A common characteristic of the grosse messer is a substantial slab tang with sandwiched scales of wood or horn attached with rivets.
These weapons were used by various classes extending from the hired soldier up to the most noble of gentlemen. While it has been written many times that peasants owned and carried a grosse messer.

You are most likely talking about some ceremonial Swords or daggers. I don’t think that one can run around with these types of weapons in the streets unless it is for some ceremonial reasons like an officers sword in the military etc. I cannot remember them being called “Grosse Messer’ but more like “Säbel, Degen, Schwert” etc. Considering how many of Merkels “Facharbeiter” are running around with knifes and happily stabbing people i wish German would arm themselves as well and fight back accordingly.

Hello, Hans. No, that comment was meant to be somewhat humorous. When the Grosse Messer was in wide circulation, due to its design being along the lines of a knife, even the peasant class could own and/or carry such. Paul Chen’s Hanwei Forge produces a duplicate of a museum piece and Cold Steel makes one, as well. It was one of the favorites of the Landsknecht. Sorry, a facetious remark … As, if German men still carried one around … there might not be as much of a moslem problem. By the way, the world cutting record … suspended rope, the thickness of such I am not certain on, but … in 2014, the new record was set by someone wielding a Grosse Messer.
