Brian Ross Removed From Trump Coverage After Suspension Ends, ABC News Says

Apparently, ABC News is taking seriously the fact that Brian Ross jumped the gun on fact-checking to rush to broadcast a damaging anti-President Donald Trump piece — that was false — and, following his four-weeks suspension, has announced he will no longer cover commander-in-chief matters.

This is rather astonishing.

But then again — the network was caught red-handed in a damaging lie. What else could it do to save face?

Here’s a quick reminder of why he was suspended in the first place:

The Washington Times has more:

Brian Ross, ABC News’ chief investigative correspondent, will be barred from covering President Trump after his four-week suspension at the network ends.

False reporting regarding former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn last Friday dented the credibility of ABC News and sent Wall Street stocks tumbling. The fall-out was too much for network president James Goldston to dismiss, and on Tuesday it was announced that Mr. Ross is forbidden from touching stories on Mr. Trump.

Rival network CBS News confirmed the new status quo for Mr. Ross on Tuesday.

“I don’t even know how many times we’ve talked about this, how many times we have talked about the need to get it right,” Mr. Goldston reportedly said to staff after the high-profile error, CNN reported. “That how we have to be right and not first. About how in this particular moment, with the stakes as high as these stakes are right now, we cannot afford to get it wrong.”

Mr. Ross had initially reported that Mr. Flynn, who pleaded guilty to charges of lying to the FBI, was instructed to make contact with Russian state actors while Mr. Trump was a presidential candidate.

Mr. Flynn was in fact instructed to contact Sergey Kislyak, Russia’s ambassador to the U.S., during the presidential transition after Mr. Trump’s Election Day victory.

“We deeply regret and apologize for the serious error we made yesterday … As a result of our continued reporting over the next several hours ultimately we determined the information was wrong and we corrected the mistake on air and online,” ABC News said in a statement after U.S. stocks were shaken.
