FEDS: New York Woman Laundered Nearly 100k In Bitcoin For ISIS

New York woman Zoobia Shahnaz allegedly laundered 85,000 dollars through cryptocurrencies to fund the Islamic State before attempting to travel to Syria in July, the Department of Justice announced Thursday.
Story continues below advertisementShahnaz appears to have engineered an elaborate financial scheme by taking out a loan for approximately 22,000 dollars and applying for multiple credit cards. She used the loan and new lines of credit to purchase nearly 62,000 dollars in bitcoin before then laundering the money and wiring it to several international destinations.
“These transactions were designed to avoid transaction reporting requirements, conceal the identity, source and destination of the illicitly obtained monies, and, ultimately, benefit ISIS,” the Department of Justice statement noted.
DOJ added they found “after conducting these financial transactions, the defendant sought to travel to Syria herself” continuing that Shahnaz constructed an itinerary to Pakistan with a multi-day layover in Turkey. She allegedly intended on crossing the Turkish-Syrian border to join the terrorist group. Shahnaz is a U.S. citizen who emigrated from Pakistan.
The incident is not the first time ISIS has solicited funds from Bitcoin. “In January 2017, Islamist militants in Indonesia funded for terrorist activities with money received through Bitcoin,” the Council on Foreign Relations noted, adding “the Mujahideen Shura Council—active in the Gaza Strip and considered a foreign terrorist organization by the United States since 2014—also launched a Bitcoin campaign last year, inviting supporters to donate money for the purchase of weapons.”

Agree. And its difficult to trace as they don’t use banking channels. but it can be traced using suspects PC/Laptop and cellphones.
But the key is more muslims = more jihad.
That is why Trump wants to ban all muslim immigration but look at the Left/Liberal support for jihadis .

Ethereum is where it is at. The big banks and corps are getting into it. Soon it may be the new engine of international commerce. I bought a bit last week and it has gone up 50-60%. Highly volatile, but fun and no need to brave the crowds in Vegas.

On the bright side, ISISophobes can use Bitcoin to support the NCA — New Crusader Army — in their guerrilla war against the Jihad without leaving a money trail that various state actors can use to stop them.
I’m sure the DOJ is not saying exactly how they caught the charmingly named Zoobia, but they must have noticed her activities with the fraudulently secured (?) $22K loan and multiple credit cards she manged to parlay into $85K before buying the bitcoins — probably through a non-encrypted and so non-secure transaction with a digital currency exchange (we don’t know which ones are operated by the CIA, of course) — and then to top it off, she buys a multi-destination ticket to Pakistan and Turkey, as if no one watches for such trips.
So the moral of the story is. if you want to use Bitcoin for good instead of evil, understand exactly how it works, what does or does not leave an identifiable trail, acquire it slowly and carefully, and don’t get caught by doing something stupid. Oh, and if you want to support the NCA you’ll have to first create it since that was just a hypothetical example.
