Catholic Church files lawsuit after Christmas-themed ad rejected by D.C. subway system

By Ken Shepherd – The Washington Times – Tuesday, November 28, 2017:

The Catholic church is taking Metro to court after the Washington-area transit agency rejected an ad campaign promoting a website aimed at encouraging attendance at parishes throughout the D.C. area.

WTOP Radio reported that the Archdiocese of Washington filed the lawsuit Tuesday after Metro rejected an advertisement promoting the website FindthePerfectGift.org. “Find the perfect gift,” reads the ad’s tag line, set against a backdrop depicting shepherds with their flock of sheep looking up into a starry sky.

While no overtly religious message is included in the text of the ad itself, the home page FindthePerfectGift explains that “Jesus is the perfect gift,” and includes links for visitors to find the nearest Catholic parish.

The website also includes a section about Catholic Advent and Christmas traditions and includes tips for how families can start their own traditions.

In its court filing, the Archdiocese claims Metro rejected the design, saying it “depicts a religious scene and thus seeks to promote religion,” WTOP said.

An official for the Archdiocese also criticized Metro for being perfectly fine with commercializing Christmas while rejecting messages from religious bodies promoting the true meaning of the holiday.

“[I]f Christmas comes from a store … then it seems WMATA approves. But if Christmas means a little bit more, WMATA plays Grinch,” said Archdiocese of Washington communications secretary Ed McFadden in a statement, WTOP reported.

I guess that if they would include name of “Isa” (perverted, distorted version of Jesus within Koran), their ad will be accepted. But “Jesus”? It is “offending” Mohammedan “sensibilities”! Particularly before Christmas (which they despise the most).

If it isn’t muslim, then the advertising industry are not interested. In any event, all it would take is one butt hurt muslim to complain about the ads and they would be be removed.

A classic case of “political correctness” carried to a fault. These bureaucrats, who think like this, are continuing to bring this nation to its knees. This nonsense has got to stop. We need to get back to saying “Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,” as that term is an endearing way of wishing good times, including health and joy, to a season that is intended to be nothing less for both Christians and Jews. As you implied, all of this behavior is related to the last eight years of Obama’s administration and the liberal leftists who have essentially turned this country on its backside while doing everything in their power to support the world of Islam. We have allowed ourselves to be turned away from reality, a reality that has shown us that the problems are directly related to the belief system that intends to dominate, subjugate, overthrow and refuses to assimilate into our free society, and now this abominable conduct that continues our march into hell!

It makes me want to think about trying to find some other service besides Amazon…..unfortunately, it is so pervasive now it is near impossible…..other companies I’ve done business with for years have now been annexed into Amazon…..not sure how to disengage from them now.
I keep going back in my mind to the Terminator movies…..Skynet….and George Orwell’s “Nineteen Eighty Four” brilliant predictions of the future…..
……the one thing I have resisted to put in my home is Alexa or any other type of device like it……just way too creepy.

It might work, might even be a bit convenient, but the fact that is, it cannot be made completely secure, when it is hacked, there will be some limp wristed bed wetter excuese from amazon as to how it will never happen again. Meantime all data collected is put into inventory for future sales.

Hi, ladywarrior. I agree with you, viz-a-viz Amazon, but what does that have to do with the Washington, DC, subway system?

Because Amazon is also participating in censorship of those speaking out against Islam…..case in point. Pamela Geller’s book …..sorry I didn’t make the connection to other posters….thanks for giving me a chance to clarify…..

Much appreciated, ladywarrior. Have you had the time to read today’ vignette on positive reviews, being removed from Ms. Geller’s book listing, by Amazon?

Is this the USA? Not the one I grew up in that’s for sure. How can churches not run ads encouraging people to go to church? I admit, it’s unusual, but the growth of atheism and cultural Marxism shows that religion needs some marketing even though it is the furthest thing from being commercial that any institution can be. By the way, I’m a Jewish born again Christian, and not Catholic but what about freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

nI know that very few people actually read the Koran and hadiths, and fewer still do so with comprehension, but the First Amendment is only one paragraph. It amazes me how many people fail to read and understand the phrase, “nor prohibit the free exercise thereof.” Perhaps it’s the “thereof” that fogs the brain. Thereof what? Religion. So by substitution is can read, “nor prohibit the free exercise of religion.” Man, this is English 101, maybe even 100.

On another topic, I think the First Amendment should be amended to exclude Islam, since it is counter to freedom and liberty, and it wished to kill or enslave all of us. When the Founders wrote the First, I doubt that Islam ever entered their minds. Islam wasn’t “given the time of day” until later with the Barbary Pirates.

Should start with “I know that…” I must have hit the “n” accidentally.

Maybe some Catholic officials are finally starting to “get it.” One might think and one would hope, but it has been a long time since we have heard much sense from that quarter. Remember when the whole bbasis for supporting the establishment of the internet was the free exchange of speech and thought, by the very lefties who are now quashing it. See todays Amazon instance. It is a time for action, it is a time to speak up and to speak out.

I’m confused. The DC Metro rejected it because it promotes religion? When did that become illegal? The Catholic Church is paying for the ad and the Metro is selling ad space on their trains. Are they really going to try and make the argument that this is a case of separation of Church and State? If that’s their argument then why isn’t the Metro 100% funded by taxpayer dollars? Last time I road the Metro in DC I had to pay to ride it. It this is their argument—it’s really weak.

Most liberal arguments are weak, that is why they hset out to destroy their opponents because their arguments cannot stand up to the truth.

If everyone is not aware that the Marxist Pope is all in for Islam….then you need to get studying…
…apparently they don’t have history books at the Vatican…..this is the same Islam that was slaughtering Christians who came to the Holy land…. the same Islam the Vatican formed the Knights Templar to fight and kill centuries ago….and of course, the same Catholic Church who captured, tortured, and murdered most of the Knights Templars on a Friday the 13th….the reason it is considered bad luck for centuries….
….and for the last two decades the Catholic church in America has been receiving massage amounts of money to “resettle immigrants” – including radical Muslims – in America. 90% of all “resettlement” organizations in America are run by the Catholic church…..on our tax dollars. Satan owns the Vatican now…..
