The profile or perception of older converts to Islam is entirely wrong. Has the FBI studied this? Do they even have a profile of older converts to Islam (i.e. Paddock)? Have they even flagged it? If not, it would explain their ineptitude and bumbling of the Paddock attack in Vegas.
Esra Özyürek is an associate professor at the European Institute of the London School of Economics. She is the author of Nostalgia for the Modern: State Secularism and Everyday Politics in Turkey. She is Muslim.
In her book, Being German, Becoming Muslim: Race, Religion, and Conversion in the New Europe, Özyürek spent three and a half years studying German converts to Islam. Of Turkish ancestry, Özyürek describes herself as a non-practising “cultural Muslim” who is able to relate to a wide variety of German Muslims.

Being German, Becoming Muslim Race, Religion, and Conversion in the New Europe
Most of the older converts to Islam recalled the intensity of their belief
and overwhelming experience of being faced with so much information. A
woman who had converted eight years earlier said with a nostalgic smile,
“I forced so much into my head that I could not remember a single thing
when I went to bed.” Right after conversion, converts often desire to com—
pletely transform their lives and purify themselves of all non— Islamic ele—
ments. Many, but clearly not all, new converts adopt a new Islamic name,
change their clothes, abandon old friends, and erase all or inappropriate
music from their iPods. I observed that Salafism is most attractive to new
Muslims exactly at this early phase of conversion. Many friends who con—
verted in the 19905 told me that when they first did so, they Salafism ap—
pealed to them because of the clear—cut worldview it presented and way it
accommodated new Muslims.

Your contribution supports independent journalism
Please take a moment to consider this. Now, more than ever, people are reading Geller Report for news they won't get anywhere else. But advertising revenues have all but disappeared. Google Adsense is the online advertising monopoly and they have banned us. Social media giants like Facebook and Twitter have blocked and shadow-banned our accounts. But we won't put up a paywall. Because never has the free world needed independent journalism more.
Everyone who reads our reporting knows the Geller Report covers the news the media won't. We cannot do our ground-breaking report without your support. We must continue to report on the global jihad and the left's war on freedom. Our readers’ contributions make that possible.
Geller Report's independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our work is critical in the fight for freedom and because it is your fight, too.
