Marseille terror: Two women knifed to death before attacker killed by armed soldiers
ARMED forces have gunned down a knifeman at a train station in France after he killed two women.
The attack was carried out at Saint Charles station in Marseille and the man reportedly yelled “Allahu Akbar” before lunging at passengers.
One victim had her throat slit while the other was stabbed in the stomach.
The attacker is thought to be aged 25-30 and had no identification papers on him.
French police say the incident is likely a “terrorist act” and are warning people to avoid the area as they carry out an operation.
The mayor of Marseilles reportedly said “the number of victims could have been higher” had it not been for the army.
Interior Minister Gérard Collomb is now travelling to the scene.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing a man brandishing a knife.
One said: “There was a group of people sitting on one of the benches, about 100-150 metres from me.
“I heard screams and saw a man who was sitting on the bench falling to the ground.

“I heard the attacker with a knife screaming ‘Allahu Akhbar’ and I saw him trying to attack other people.”
The assailant was shot dead by paramilitary forces that guard high-risk areas of the country as part of Operation Sentinelle.
Up to 7,000 troops have been deployed across the country after a string of terror attacks since 2015.
