Supreme Court: Trump admin can keep travel ban on most refugees
September 12, 2017, by Ariane de Vogue, CNN,Washington (CNN)The Supreme Court granted Tuesday a Trump administration request to continue to bar most refugees under its travel ban.
Story continues below advertisementWithout comment, the court blocked a federal appeals court ruling from last week that would have exempted refugees who have a contractual commitment from resettlement organizations from the travel ban while the justices consider its legality. The ruling could impact roughly 24,000 people.
The travel ban bars certain people from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from entering the US.
The issue concerning the scope of the travel ban has been ricocheting through the courts since last spring when the Supreme Court allowed Trump’s ban to go into effect except for those with a “bona fide” relationship to the United States. The order might give hope to supporters of the ban, but it may also simply reflect a desire on the part of the justices to maintain the status quo until the justices can hear the case next month.
“Although it may be tempting to see the order as a harbinger of how the court is likely to rule on the merits, it’s better understood as a very modest procedural step to stabilize the full scope of the injunctions against the travel ban over the next four weeks,” said Steve Vladeck, CNN Supreme Court analyst and professor of law at the University of Texas School of Law.
The justices did not explain their reasoning, although it took five justices to make the decision.

6 years agoWe should move to a merits system like Canada or Australia. Reward immigrants who have valuable employment and integration attributes. Give them a chance to follow some pretty basic rules and become a citizen. Don’t admit potential radicals.
Canada has <10% of its immigrants on public assistance. In the US it's over half.

It is an absolute shame that our government has let it go this far. They think Islam is a legitimate religion, It is not. Never has been and never will be. 6 years agoCongress could pass a law stopping all immigration until we find out who is here, and weed out those that should not. Then they could pass a law requiring anal exams for any new immigrants. I don’t remember anything in the Constitution that requires America to take any immigrants.
I know this won’t happen, because it would require Congress to actually work…you know, protecting the citizens of this country. And these nimrods still can’t figure out why Trump was elected……….

6 years agoFreedom-of-religion does not mean we should bring in those professing to be religious whose “holy” book instructs them to destroy governments, laws, and citizens who won’t comply with the teachings of that book.
All the more reason for us to dig much deeper into our own REAL Holy Text, starting to take it very seriously, and proceeding to do everything that it says, beginning with The Ten Commandments.
6 years agoI know I said this b4, but I think they should ban all Muslims to the exception of few, til Muslim countries LEGALIZE Christianity across the Muslim world. Til then, no entry into the US for any of them as the law of reciprocation is Valid here and needs to be Upheld.
