The day after the sixteenth anniversary of the 9/11 jihad attacks, ABC News ran a piece entitled, “Muslim scholar Jihad Turk makes educating America on Islam his full-time job.” When has ABC News ever run a puff piece about a Christian entitled “Christian scholar makes educating America on Christianity his full-time job”? Or a similar piece about a scholar of any religion other than Islam? Right, never.
In the ABC piece, Muslim scholar Jihad Turk whines about American racism and then says, “Islam came, quite frankly, as a feminist movement, empowering women in ways that was uncomfortable for the people of their time. In fact, culture trumps religion. And even though they nominally adopted Islam, as a culture, they disregard Islam when it comes to important cultural practices.”
Islam a feminist movement? In reality, the Qur’an taught that men are superior to women and should beat those from whom they “fear disobedience”: “Men have authority over women because Allah has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because Allah has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them.” — Qur’an 4:34

Muhammad’s child bride, Aisha, says in a hadith that Muhammad “struck me on the chest which caused me pain, and then said: ‘Did you think that Allah and His Apostle would deal unjustly with you?’” — Sahih Muslim 2127
The Qur’an likens a woman to a field (tilth), to be used by a man as he wills: “Your women are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth as you will” — Qur’an 2:223
It declares that a woman’s testimony is worth half that of a man: “Get two witnesses, out of your own men, and if there are not two men, then a man and two women, such as you choose, for witnesses, so that if one of them errs, the other can remind her” — Qur’an 2:282
It allows men to marry up to four wives, and have sex with slave girls also: “If you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, marry women of your choice, two or three or four; but if you fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly, then only one, or one that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice” — Qur’an 4:3
It rules that a son’s inheritance should be twice the size of that of a daughter: “Allah directs you as regards your children’s inheritance: to the male, a portion equal to that of two females” — Qur’an 4:11
It allows for marriage to pre-pubescent girls, stipulating that Islamic divorce procedures “shall apply to those who have not yet menstruated” — Qur’an 65:4
Islamic law stipulates that a man’s prayer is annulled if a dog or a woman passes in front of him as he is praying. “Narrated ‘Aisha: The things which annul the prayers were mentioned before me. They said, “Prayer is annulled by a dog, a donkey and a woman (if they pass in front of the praying people).” I said, ‘You have made us (i.e. women) dogs.’ I saw the Prophet praying while I used to lie in my bed between him and the Qibla. Whenever I was in need of something, I would slip away. for I disliked to face him.” — Sahih Bukhari 1.9.490
Another hadith depicts Muhammad saying that the majority of the inhabitants of hell are women: “I looked into Paradise and I saw that the majority of its people were the poor. And I looked into Hell and I saw that the majority of its people are women.” — Sahih Bukhari 3241; Sahih Muslim 2737
When asked about this, he explained: “I was shown Hell and I have never seen anything more terrifying than it. And I saw that the majority of its people are women.” They said, “Why, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “Because of their ingratitude (kufr).” It was said, “Are they ungrateful to Allah?” He said, “They are ungrateful to their companions (husbands) and ungrateful for good treatment. If you are kind to one of them for a lifetime then she sees one (undesirable) thing in you, she will say, ‘I have never had anything good from you.’” — Sahih Bukhari 1052
And in another hadith:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out to the musalla (prayer place) on the day of Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr. He passed by the women and said, ‘O women! Give charity, for I have seen that you form the majority of the people of Hell.’ They asked, ‘Why is that, O Messenger of Allah?’ He replied, ‘You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religious commitment than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you.’ The women asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what is deficient in our intelligence and religious commitment?’ He said, ‘Is not the testimony of two women equal to the testimony of one man?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Is it not true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?’ The women said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘This is the deficiency in her religious commitment.’” — Sahih Bukhari 304
Another statement attributed to Muhammad: “If a husband calls his wife to his bed [i.e. to have sexual relation] and she refuses and causes him to sleep in anger, the angels will curse her till morning.” — Sahih Bukhari 4.54.460
I look forward to Jihad Turk’s exposition of how these passages are compatible with a “feminist movement.” I won’t be holding my breath.

Have you ever engaged in dialogue with her?
Do you know of any replies she has made?
She may be in North America but she is possibly brought up in Europe because I notice that she uses a comma for a decimal point as in 2,5% instead of 2.5% (or maybe she just needs glasses -she also spells Islam as “islam” which is odd for the foaming-at-the-mouth-grinding-of-the-teeth jIhadist that she is).
She is one nasty piece of work, very smug, but stupid enough to bow down to misogynistic Islam.

Muhammad’s first wife was a rich older widow who ran her own transport business and hired M. to undertake camel drives. She made the decision on her own to marry again, and her choice was the younger Muhammad who didn’t have a pot to piss in, and the hadith report that her father wasn’t that happy about it. She obviously had poor taste in men, but based on that little anecdote, it sounds like Arab women had more autonomy before Islam.

She had to have regretted her decision. She spent a lot of her social clout protecting him from her tribe who wanted him dead for trying to overturn Mecca’s lucrative religious tourism. Her ability to protect him probably extended her life. A man like Muhammed in today’s world would probably take a couple of million dollars worth of life insurance on her and then arrange for an accident.

I’ve looked on Google and DuckDuckPro, and only positive spins of Khadija are available anymore. About 10 years ago I read a short biography of Muhammad written by a Muslim. (It was a collection of ahadith, I think.) At any rate, there was an anecdote that M. and Khadija got her father drunk–to soften him up– before they announced to him they were going to get married. Devout Muslims also point out — as if it a good thing — that Khadija had lost much of her wealth by her death because she spent it on Muhammad’s cause and ragtag followers. They trumpet Muhammad’s faithfulness to her as a sign of his respect for her — he didn’t start his harem until after her death — but, as a rational woman, I can only believe that he was afraid she might cut him off or was afraid of her clan. Khadija died and soon after so did Abu Talib, his influential uncle who never accepted Islam but always protected his crazed nephew. Hence Muhammad’s escape to Medina.

I would agree with you , with the exception of Christianity..God was for equality between male and female . although the culture of many countries differed. Gen.2: 23 and 24 says”The man said; “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh;she shall be called ‘woman’ for she was taken out of man” vs 24 That is why a man leaves his father and his mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh…Paul says in Ephesians:21 “Be subject to one another, in fear of Christ” and in Acts : 10, Peter says”I now see that God does not show favoritism” Jesus’ friends included women such as Martha and Mary and their brother, Lazarus( whom Jesus raised from the dead ) The apostles and Jesus traveled with Mary Magdalene, Joanna,and Susanna(Luke 8: 1-3.

In a great leap forward, tunisian muslim women can now marry non muslims.
A previous law, dating back to 1973, mandated that if a Muslim woman and a non-Muslim man wished to marry, first he had to convert to Islam and show documented proof of his conversion. A Muslim man, however, was legally free to marry a non-Muslim woman without her joining the faith.

Here are a few talking points, quotes from shari’a, directly pertaining to women. Would jihad turk be so gracious as the scholar he purports to be, address each one, with an explanation as to how this promotes equality. Thank you.
• Women are forbidden from becoming president or judge.
• There is no age limit for marriage of girls. The marriage contract at any age after birth and consummation of marriage at age 8 or 9.
• A husband has the right to beat his wife and does not have to say why to her family or police.
• Rebelliousness on the part of the wife nullifies the husband’s obligation to support her, gives him permission to beat her and keep her from leaving the home.
• Divorce is only in the hands of the husband and is as easy as saying: “I divorce you,” and is effective even if the husband says he did not intend it.
• A wife has no right to divorce her husband, even if he is polygamous, with additional wives.
• A man is allowed to have sex with slave women and women captured in battle, and if the enslaved woman is married, her marriage is annulled.
• There is no community property between a husband and his wife/wives.
• A woman inherits half what a man inherits.
• Parents have the legal right to perform female genital mutilation on minor daughters.
• A man must pay the woman dowry to be given in exchange for his right to her sexual organs.
• A rapist may only be required to pay money (dowry) without marrying the rape victim.
• A man is allowed to have sex with slave women and women captured in battle, and if the enslaved woman is married her marriage is annulled.
• A woman’s testimony in court is half the value of a man.
• A woman loses custody of her children if she remarries.
• To prove rape a woman must have four male witnesses.
• A woman must cover every inch of her body, which is considered awrah (a sexual organ). Exposing face is allowed by most, but not all Sharia schools.
• A Muslim man will not be prosecuted if he kills his wife if caught in the act of adultery. However, the opposite is not true since husband “could be married to the woman he was caught with.” Thus loyalty is only expected from wife, and not the husband.
