I have read the koran. A Westerner quickly learns that it must be read with annotations, since the desire to obfuscate the material resulted in your early caliph burning all extent manuscripts and re-ordering the koran based on the length of the sura, not its chronological placement — this makes it all but intelligible, which was the point.
