Three police officers were attacked and injured by migrants near the port city of Calais, France.
Calais is a ground zero of sorts for migrants to reach the United Kingdom via the Eurotunnel.
And they’re not exactly peaceful in their assembly and passage.
The Daily Caller News Foundation has more:
Migrants frequently attempt to hijack trucks on the motorway and many “took advantage of the bottleneck to board a few trucks,” according to local deputy police chief Jean-Philippe Vennin.
“Our British colleagues had opened only nine out of 14 lanes this weekend though we expected 9,000 vehicles in the Eurotunnel and 7,500 at the port,” Vennin told AFP.
Police used tear gas to stop migrants and three police officers were reported injured. Police did not comment on whether any migrants were hurt during the clashes.
Calais was home to around 9,000 people in the “Jungle” migrant camp until its demolition last October. Authorities simultaneously moved to construct a 13-foot wall by the motorway to stop make it harder for migrants to access.
President Emmanuel Macron recently proposed a number of measures to stop makeshift camps from appearing around the country.
“For those who are persecuted, for freedom fighters … they must be welcomed on our territory,” Macron said during a speech July 28 in Orleans, according t0 The Times. “Letting them wander from border to border, that is not what France is about. No country can take in all the economic migrants.”

Your contribution supports independent journalism
Please take a moment to consider this. Now, more than ever, people are reading Geller Report for news they won't get anywhere else. But advertising revenues have all but disappeared. Google Adsense is the online advertising monopoly and they have banned us. Social media giants like Facebook and Twitter have blocked and shadow-banned our accounts. But we won't put up a paywall. Because never has the free world needed independent journalism more.
Everyone who reads our reporting knows the Geller Report covers the news the media won't. We cannot do our ground-breaking report without your support. We must continue to report on the global jihad and the left's war on freedom. Our readers’ contributions make that possible.
Geller Report's independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our work is critical in the fight for freedom and because it is your fight, too.
