Robert Spencer here with some Monk for you. The picture is not so great. But dig the music, man. This is Thelonious Monk, a true American original, on piano, playing his incandescent classic “Straight, No Chaser,” with the underrated Charlie Rouse on tenor sax.
Steve Lacy, the world’s premier soprano saxophonist and foremost Monk acolyte, said: “Monk’s music has profound humanity, disciplined economy, balanced virility, and exuberant wit.”
And a beat like a tidal wave.

Please take a moment to consider this. Now, more than ever, people are reading Geller Report for news they won't get anywhere else. But advertising revenues have all but disappeared. That whole album is good. I am not a Barry Manilow fan, my girlfriend is (ugh!). Nevertheless, he kills it with covers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3_aEHuz-qU

I love and play all sorts of music…search & check out “Red Ridinghood” Etude Tableux No. 6, Opus 39 by Rachmaninoff played by Valentina Lisitsa…totally amazing …I’m trying trying to learn it….
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVuP1BjbhAg&list=RDtVuP1BjbhAg&sns=em
Here is Valentina Lisitsa. Then look for El Contrabandista….
I cannot fault her musicianship. Moreover, at least watching her makes clear the immense struggle in which she engages to perform at that level- I consider that a good thing, as musical performance can, at times , benefit from the acknowledgement of that struggle.
Valentina is not without controversy off-stage. In a nutsheell, check out the “Controversy” section:
Great bass on this -here’s 1 of 2 studio versions Amy did of Round Midnight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32_jWTV41Cw
Anyone got the Tom & Jerry cartoon where in the end they chase each other over a piano and drum (I think it was) and created the most awesome Jazz I ever heard.
After an Internet search, never found the cartoon.
Try a YouTube search with the words “tom and jerry piano”. I think the one you are looking for was done in 1953.
Thanks. Been there done that. I have NEVER found that episode after doing an extensive internet search.
not a jazz fan ,no way, ok they can make noise, but i seriously can`t call THAT music. give me the blues, PLEASE. or some 40s,50s,60s real music. Waltzing with my Darlin, Chattanooga shoeshine boy,sha-na-na. You know, the kind of music with underlying intellectual tones
