Canada Bans ‘Anti-Sharia’ Gay Pride Float Because ‘Islamophobia’
The western Canadian city of Vancouver has banned an “anti-Sharia” float at this year’s pride parade saying that the sentiment expressed by the Middle Eastern men behind it is “Islamophobic”.
The float, which is run by a gay activist group of Middle Eastern origin men and transgenders named Cirque de So Gay, took part in the Vancouver pride parade in 2011. The activists applied for a place in this year’s pride parade but were denied by organisers, who told them that the float could be seen as “culturally insensitive”, the Vancouver Sun reports.
Story continues below advertisementShawn Shirazi, an Iranian born gay man, is one of the activists involved with Cirque de So Gay and has expressed anger at the decision to prohibit the float this year. He said the rejection was “hypocrisy” for people to claim to support universal human rights yet also defend the cultural sensitivities of various religions and cultures.
Co-executive director of the Vancouver Pride Society Andrea Arnot defended the move saying: “Many women choose to wear burkas. It’s part of their identity, their religion and their culture,” but added: “Of course, there are places where it’s enforced.”
She said Muslims she spoke to on the issue claimed the float was “offensive” and said: “I definitely wanted to be sensitive to what is happening in our communities right now.”
In the UK, a similar controversy occurred in London in July when former Muslims carried signs reading: “Allah is Gay.” A formal complaint was lodged with the event organisers by the East London Mosque who said the signs incited hatred.

The issue of Islamisation and the role of Islam in Canadian public life has been hotly debated in Canada since the last federal election in 2015 when former Prime Minister Stephen Harper promised to ban the full face veil for employees of public companies.
Since then, the country has been divided on the issue with the federal government under Justin Trudeau passing motion M103 which seeks to combat Islamophobia in reaction to a shooting at a Quebec mosque earlier this year which Trudeau deemed a terrorist attack.
Trudeau, who is a frequent attendee at pride parades, was also seen sporting Ramadan-themed socks at the Toronto pride parade earlier this year.
Some governments have gone the opposite way to Trudeau’s Liberal party like the provincial government of Quebec who recently passed an amendment to a bill which could see the niqab banned on public transit across the province.

I find intolerance offensive. Whatever happened to live and let live? And the religious right should consider the fact that gluttony is mentioned many times more in the New Testament than homosexuality. The Bible Belt is full of obese people who hate gays. Go figure.

It doesn’t offend me, I am a 1000% heterosexual man and I am therefore not afraid of any latent homosexual desires whatsoever, I am adamant that gay people should have the same freedoms and obligations of every citizen, they have to pay taxes after all (among other things…)

It’s not Canada. This article is very misleading. The headline says “VANCOUVER HAS BANNED AN “ANTI-SHARIA” FLOAT”, but when you read the article it turns out that “The activists applied for a place in this year’s pride parade but were denied by organisers”. The “organizers” are NOT the city of Vancouver, which I hope has better things to do than organize gay parades. Who cares what they allow and what they don’t allow? I couldn’t give a s**t. It’s all disgusting however you look at it. A celebration of degeneracy, debauchery and decadence, instead of anything that anybody could be remotely proud of.

Who makes decisions for the city of vancouver other than some minion in city hall? The organizers are subject to Canada’s discrimination laws, for them to openly display such outward bigotry, would require complicity from some level of administration.

although gay pride parades are not exactly my cup of tea, (I never go because once you’ve one you’ve seen them all) I understand them as a carnival like the ones in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Canary Islands (Spain), Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Notting Hill in London and so on. If you find them disgusting unlike thousands of people who go tp watch and enjoy the stravaganza, stay at home. A city is not a convent but much more important, it is not up to any local authority to submit to muslim laws. Justin Trudeau’s bending over to islam clerics and making Canada a muslim country worries me more, much more.

Jeeze – Notting Hill is a Carabean-themed event – def. not gay per se. The Carabean Islands are as homophobic as they come, they kill gays (and tourists etc.,), but at least they don’t throw them from high buildings (yet).

although I never go to watch this kind of parades, (my wallet and mobile phone would go missing without my noticing it) the participants in Carabean and Brazilian-themed carnival parades do show a lot of flesh, something that apparently doesn’t offend the ‘righteous’ as much as gay men and lesbian women (I don’t really like to classify people on account of their sexual preferences) having fun wearing speedos and celebrating their sexuality. Homophobic people usually have fears of having hidden feelings of the sort and fight them by beating up people they think are ‘gay’. Otherwise how come so many parks where men go cruising in order to meet other men at night are usually called “Gardens of Allah?”
And in Rotterdam at least one park is called ‘Kunta Kinte’s descendants’ playground…
By the way, I’ve seen these carnival events on TV only.

You had better care or you will wake up one day and find that Islam and Sharia Law control Canada. That in my opinion is what Trudeau wants to happen. Then your free speech will be gone for sure even more than it has already. Women will be back again in the dark ages. The float should have been allowed because it ties directly to Pride members who are killed under Islam. It is what these members would face if Sharia Law ever takes over. Regardless these people are still human beings and a good Christian would accept that their life style is different. Have they hurt you in any way? They aren’t trying to change the laws in Canada but Islam is

the Canadian attitude towards the islam reminds me of Pol Pot’s triumphant’s troops marching into the capital city of Cambodja in 1975 with the population applauded and cheered greeting the “liberators.”
The very SAME DAY the whole population was evicted from their homes and sent to force labor camps for “re-education.” We all know what that “liberation” meant.
Four years later the Iranians acclaimed the returning ayatollah Khomeini as their “liberator,” not realizing that the islamic satrapy of the mullahs would be much worse than the shah’s regime…
Some years ago I saw a cartoon showing a “politically correct” western gay man in an orange jump suit and wearing a pink triangle about to be beheaded by a “righteous” muslim man (probably in Afghanistan where the taliban kidnaps westerners) with the caption, “this sucks, but after all I have to accept this out of respect for their religion and traditions.”
Apparently there is no cure for stupidity.
The Cambodians back then may have had the excuse of not knowing what was about to happen, neither did the Iranians. Canada’s present day rulers are either utterly evil, utterly stupid or both combined. What a disgrace!
