Freedom of Speech More Important Than Offending Others, Say 85 Percent of Americans: Poll

14

In the face of PayPal’s shameful debacle of banning the likes of Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer and the counterjihad PI News site, comes this slice of good news: Fully 85 percent of Americans say freedom of speech is more important than the risk of offending people.

Americans by and large support free speech, and the concept put forth by Voltaire — that even offensive speech is protected.

The poll, conducted by Rasmussen Reports, was just published this week, around the same time Spencer’s Jihad Watch account was blocked — briefly — by PayPal. Similar blocks occurred to the accounts of the German-based PI News and the donation-funded Pamela Geller accounts.

“PayPal did inndeed suspend my account after a hit piece by ProPublic, a George Soros-funded uber-left quote-unquote ‘think tank,’ as it were,” Geller told Breitbart News Daily.

Well, if polls are to believed, most Americans find such censorship outright distasteful.

Breitbart has the story:

An overwhelming 85 percent of Americans say freedom of speech is “more important than making sure no one is offended by what others say,” according to a poll published by Rasmussen Reports on Wednesday.

A new poll released by Rasmussen Reports on Wednesday revealed that over 85 percent of American adults believe that the right to free speech is “more important than making sure no one is offended by what others say.” A mere eight percent said they believe that guarding against personal offense is more important than protecting free speech.

73 percent also agreed with the famous line often attributed to Voltaire: “I disapprove of what you say but will defend to the death your right to say it.” Another 10 percent disagreed with that statement, and 17 percent said they are undecided.

The poll reveals that there is bipartisan agreement with regards to freedom of speech. Despite overwhelming support for speech rights, Democrats are slightly less supportive as a group of protecting speech for those they disagree with than are Republicans.

Additionally, 47 percent of respondents said they believe that most college administrators and professors are more interested in getting students to toe a specific political line rather than to participate in a free exchange of ideas.

This is what I’ve said multiple times to sue them and the media and payment processors who make false accusations or shut you down.

When citizens are organised , aware and willing to fight this using social, Legal methods its possible to win against the Islamonazis just as Parents of san diego school did http://tinyurl.com/y8yzso88

Its a lesson on how to fight back and win. Its far more difficult in Europe due to Pro-islam Left/liberal Loons running the govt.

It is impossible to give everyone the right to not be offended, that is the way it is, deal with it.

Well what do Americans know? … The More Evolved Leftists will do anything to protect their agenda, which basically amounts to exterminating our civilization. It’s unlikely our opinion will have any impact unless we can convince enough drones to wake up and toe the line.

In a perverse sort of a way, it’s nice for the More Evolved to actively try to censor reality and squash the facts. …

For those of us who have been on the business end of Leftism for the last however many decades we’ve been targeted, it’s not just the tip of the iceberg – it is the first era I can recall when anyone outside of the choir has taken notice of the abominable, horrific, cruel, and malicious attacks on the West and the victims of Leftism.

Until recently the drones were completely unaware of it. …

Now this is not to say the drones are awake. More like the drones are wondering why the ‘Good Guys’ (Leftists) don’t round up the ‘Nazi racists’ (that is – the Left’s victims) and ‘concentrate’ them.

But it is a step in the right direction.

When I get the chance, I always point out to the drones that they are the ‘hater, racist, bigot monsters’ the Left hates. The ones who know me always let it go – they know I will destroy any argument they have with lengthy laundry lists of facts, evidence, and arguments. But it makes an impression.

We just need to work on keeping Trump working on our agenda, and not throwing in the towel, close the border to foreign Demokkkrats, and not letting the RINOs save the Demokkkrats and their Leftist allies.

If we can just hold the line long enough to prevent the RINOs and fake ‘Conservatives’ from snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, we might have a chance of being the first civilization to save itself from the ‘inevitable’ collapse of the Republic. It would be a first to my knowledge, but it would be very worthwhile.

I had this argument with someone recently . It’s crazy how being offended is thought to be a crime by many.
Who I wonder are 15% that don’t believe free speech overrules someone being offended?

I got an email asking me to sign this petition about firing an Inman who preaches hate against Jewish people . Apparently he is now contrite (fake apology) but he still needs to be fired and I believe deported but the petition needs to be shared and signed they need 189 more signatures.
Here is the link if anyone is interested:

Great! Glad to hear that .

I wonder what cultures the 15% who disagreed were from. Most likely Muslim and black African, where there is constant chaos and no concept of democracy and freedom.

I typed into Google “jihadwatch” but did not hit the Enter button. Google suggested three alternative searches, all disparaging. They appended to “jihadwatch” the additional search terms “bias”, “fake”, or “fake news”. In contrast, when running the test with “propublica” the suggested alternative searches appended the terms “jobs”, “bias”, or “maternal mortality”. I also ran the tests using the DuckDuckGo search engine. Out of nine suggested alternative searches for jihadwatch, only one was disparaging.

Google had a reputation for being neutral. But now they clearly have their thumb on the scale. Google seems to have decided that “ordinary folks” just love to have their betters preach to them. How else would we know what to think?

Google’s decision to stop being neutral might have been reasonable on searches for government designated terrorist organizations. But Google is putting its thumb on the scale against jihadwatch and other organizations that the government accepts as tax-exempt nonprofits!

Google has partnered with groups like ProPublica and SPLC to skew the search results. Just because SPLC put the words Poverty and Law in its name does not mean it is fair. Google would have done better working with MEMRI.

The other 15% (except those that don’t know which way to turn) are actually traitors to the max and enemies of America.

Those in the media and in business who seek to limit the First Amendment liberties of freedom of expression for others need to be reminded that those constitutional liberties are the very same ones that allow the media and free enterprise to even exist in the first place.

That is very encouraging. One would think it would be much worse. I think that shows that the Antifa types and their sympathizers are a very tiny minority, though they make a disproportionately big noise.
