California: Catholic school removes statues to avoid offending Muslim students

70

“The students attending San Domenico come from a variety of religious backgrounds besides Christianity: Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam.” If there are any Jews attending this school, you can be sure that they didn’t complain about the statues. Buddhists and Hindus in the U.S. have never complained about Christian symbols being displayed in Christian institutions, either. There is only one group that this is all about, the religion of the perpetually enraged and aggrieved.

“San Anselmo’s San Domenico School creates stir by removing Catholic statues,” by Richard Halstead, Marin Independent Journal, August 24, 2017:

Removal of a number of statues and other smaller Catholic icons from the campus of San Domenico School in San Anselmo has raised concerns among some parents.

Story continues below advertisement

In an email to the school’s board of directors, Dominican Sisters of San Rafael and the head of school, Shannon Fitzpatrick objected to the removal of the statues and other steps the school has taken in an effort to make the school more inclusive.

“Articulating an inclusive foundation appears to mean letting go of San Domenico’s 167-year tradition as a Dominican Catholic school and being both afraid and ashamed to celebrate one’s heritage and beliefs,” wrote Fitzpatrick, whose 8-year-old son attends the school.

She added, “In our time here, the word ‘Catholic’ has been removed from the mission statement, sacraments were removed from the curriculum, the lower school curriculum was changed to world religions, the logo and colors were changed to be ‘less Catholic,’ and the uniform was changed to be less Catholic.”

Responding to follow-up questions Monday, Fitzpatrick wrote, “There are other families having the same concerns I do. Many parents feel if the school is heading in a different direction then the San Domenico community should have been notified before the signing of the enrollment for the following year.”

Cheryl Newell, who had four children graduate from San Domenico, said, “I am extremely disappointed in the school and the direction they’ve been going. This isn’t a new thing that they’ve been intentionally eroding their Catholic heritage. They’re trying to be something for everyone and they’re making no one happy,”

Kim Pipki, whose daughter left San Domenico two years ago after graduating from ninth grade, said some of the statues were also important to families who aren’t Catholic.

“The one main statue that has everyone fired up is the baby Jesus and Mary one,” Pipki said. “It was at the center of the primary school courtyard.”

Pipki said the school had a ceremony during which children would place a crown on the statue of Mary.

“It was less about God and more about passing on some traditions,” Pipki said. “People were shocked that the statues were pitched in the basement.”

Amy Skewes-Cox, who heads San Domenico School’s board of trustees, said the relocation and removal of some of the school’s 180 religious icons was “completely in compliance” with San Domenico’s new strategic plan, approved unanimously by the board of trustees and the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael last year. She said at least 18 icons remain, including a statue of St. Dominic at the center of the campus.

She noted that it was unfortunate the removal of the statues occurred at about the same time as the unrest in Charlottesville over the removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, and that the issues are “totally different” and have “absolutely no connection other than it is change, and people have a hard time with change.”…

One of the strategic plan’s stated goals is to “strengthen San Domenico’s identity as an independent school” and clearly articulate its “inclusive spiritual foundation.”

San Domenico was founded by the Dominican Sisters in 1850 as an independent, Catholic school — meaning that it is not owned or operated by a parish or religious order.

“San Domenico is both a Catholic school and an independent school,” said Head of School Cecily Stock, “but what we were finding after doing some research is that in the broader community we are known as being a Catholic school and are not necessarily known as an independent school. We want to make sure that prospective families are aware that we are an independent school.”

Of the 660 students who attend the K-12 school, 121 are boarding students and 98 of these are international students from British Columbia, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Mexico, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. The students attending San Domenico come from a variety of religious backgrounds besides Christianity: Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam….

Its takes Patriots like Hungarian govt to tell the muslims and Left/Liberal pro-islam loons to get out. They expelled

THAT is what a country needs if you want to protect it from becoming another Islamic hellhole.

That is not a Catholic school, it is not taught by nuns. It is a den of whores taught by reprobates, sisters of the cult of perpetual whoredom to islam. Their behaviour is disgusting, truly disciples of the false shepherd of crislam. It is not an independent brothel if it panders to islam at the expense of every other religion, it is a den of liars and cowards.

I only met one nun at the Catholic college I used to work at and she never wore a habit. If she was a member of the faculty she was the only one. I don’t miss that place at all — especially the semi-annual islamic propaganda assemblies aka. convocations.

Why is it always “all about muslims” why do they expect have to have their asses kissed by everyone? Why do so many people grovel before a cult of lying, thieving, pedophiles that practice beastiality, necrophilia, institutionalized slavery and rape, just to mention a few of islam’s traits. What do you grovelling cravens expect to get from muslims for your snivelling cowardice? Well? Other than being ridiculed for your weakness, lack of conviction and ease of manipulation, what do you expect?

because so many of these imbeciles see them as victims and are terrified of upsetting them. Every European and Scandinavian leader plus the Muslim loving Trudeau has bent over backwards to appease their demands, while ignoring their indigenous populations. They see the constant attacks on their people. They come out with the same pathetic platitudes every time and do whatever they can to cover them up, while threatening arrests to anyone that dares to speak out or attack any of these sub humans. I just wish that ISIS would take out some of these traitors that have welcomed these disgusting inbred rapists and murderers into their countries, then maybe they might actually do something to protect their citizens and deport this scum.

Of course it’s “to gain more revenue” from muslums, muslum sympathizers, muslum apologists and muslum collaborators.
I worked at a Catholic college (spit) the only religion they sucked up to was islum, they whitewashed the vile nature of islum everywhere they had the opportunity — from “history” classes to religious studies to mandatory assemblies for all staff, faculty and any students they could round up.

Actually, I think I have read articles that reflect the situation as you describe it. Even so – I just can’t get worked up about this school, though I do despise the pope. The Catholic Church is, and always has been corrupt. But I can’t imagine that many devout or traditional Muslims would actually seek out a Catholic school and I don’t see any harm in the ones that do. It is a chance for them to broaden their minds and eventually leave Islam. I guess the harm is to the non-Muslims who will get a distorted, whitewashed view of Islam. But they get that from the left in general.

I agree with Pamela 100%. First, if you truly believe in a common spiritual truth then you know the essence of that truth will be expressed in any religious artwork, whether it’s Catholic, Buddhist, or even Celtic or African art.

The school is not only doing a disservice to their Christian students by depriving them of their religious sculptures, the school is doing a disservice to non-Christians as well.

How better to achieve a sense of appreciation for other traditions than to be exposed at an early age? Everyone who studies Art History by definition learns to appreciate the art work of other cultures and traditions. If you want to learn about painting, for example, you must learn about the Italian Renaissance which is full of religious art: madonnas, crucifixions, saints, etc.

What kind of Art do muzrats have? So they can share with us? As far as I know, everything is prohibited in their “religion of peace”, including art, music, literature (excluding Quaran). They shouldn’t be allowed to dictate us what to do. They come here without the invitation, seat on our taxpayers necks, enjoying a free benefits, and instead of working – using our welfare and constantly breeding as a crouches. They should shut up or get the fk out of here.

I’m
not surprised since the new teaching in the Catholic Church regarding
Islam god Allah is the same God the Father that Christians believe in.
Two Problems with that. Islam recognizes Allah as the true God of all
Muslims, but only Muslims. God stated that there is no other God before
him. He is the one who created the Earth as well gave life to Adam and
Eve, due to their eating of the fruit from the tree of life, we all
ended up as Sinners. Jesus Christ is the Son of God sent down from
Heaven to save us from all of Our Sins. If you believe in me thou shalt
be saved. If we follow him, and his teaching and Believe him to be the
Son of God, you become one in the Spirit. God is the God of Love, Evil
doesn’t indwell within him. The evil lives where there is Hate in
everything that he touches or lies too. He is the chief of all lies.
The Catholic Church has fallen away from the true Teachings of the
Bible. This pope has drawn Roman Catholics into an abyss of false
teachings. Pope Paul would be shocked to hear these lies. Pope will
answer to God, Just like all of us will, but it is better to be in the
light of the Spirit, then in total darkness.

Well, mercy, why is this “building” still open, at all? The pope says he supports Palestinians anyway, as well as opening all countries borders to muslims! I received this from someone online, and I think every Catholic should see, read, and understand these:

10 Doctrinal Deviationsin Roman Catholic Teachings

1. The Bible teaches that we are not to bow down to statues.
Exodus 20:4,5
The Roman Catholic Church says that we should bow down to statues.

2. The Bible teaches that all have sinned except Jesus.
Romans 3:10-12, Hebrews 4:15
The Roman Catholic Church teaches that Mary was sinless.

3. The Bible says that Jesus is the only mediator between man and God.
1 Timothy 2:5
The Roman Catholic Church says Mary is co-mediator with Christ.

4. The Bible teaches that Christ offered His sacrifice on the cross once and for all. Hebrews 7:27, 28; 10:10
The Roman Catholic Church teaches that the priest sacrifices Christ on the altar at mass.

5. The Bible teaches that all Christians are saints and priests.
Ephesians 1:1, 1 Peter 2:9
The Roman Catholic Church says that saints and priests are special castes within the Christian community.

6. The Bible teaches that all Christians should know that they have eternal life.
1 John 5:13
The Roman Catholic Church teaches that all Christians cannot and should not know that they have eternal life.

7. The Bible teaches the seventh day of the week is the Sabbath of the Lord.
Exodus 20:8-11
The Roman Catholic Church openly admits they substituted the first day for the seventh, claiming the church has authority from Christ to alter God’s law.

8. The Bible teaches that we should call no religious leader father.
Matthew 23:9
The Roman Catholic Church teaches that we may call the priests and pope “father.”

9. The Bible teaches to not pray in vain repetition.
Matthew 6:7
The Roman Catholic Church says to pray the Lord’s Prayer or “Hail Mary’s” repetitiously.

10. The Bible teaches to confess your sins to God for only God can forgive sin.
Isaiah 43:25, Luke 5:24
The Roman Catholic Church says you must confess your sins to the priest for forgiveness. The teachings of purgatory, limbo, and prayers for the dead are also nowhere in Scripture but are clearly relics of paganism.

The words of Jesus perfectly apply:
“ ‘And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men” (Mark 7:7, 8).

Most people are surprised to learn that the first individual to identify the papal office as antichrist was a pope!
Yes, Pope Gregory the Great (540-604), who was the last of the four original Doctors of the Church and who became known as Saint Gregory, at the end of the ancient church period, said
that such a church teaching came from the spirit of antichrist.
He wrote, “I confidently affirm that whoever calls himself universal bishop or desires to be so called is in his pride a fore runner
of antichrist.”

You have an excellent point. In the past, I was a practicing Catholic, but came to realize that the written Word of God trumps all human authority. I no longer endorse statues and crucifixes, but do respect the right of Catholics to have them. Hypocrites, such as islam or any of the left, may condemn and vandalize images, and play God, but their hearts are still not right in His sight.

Yes, yes, we know the sola scriptura crowd of Protestants don’t like Catholicism. But strife among Christian denominations (let alone between Christians and other non-Islamic religions) serves ONLY the interests of allah/Satan and Islam. It’s time for all hands on deck, and I mean ALL hands. It’s more important to oppose the common enemy than to try to make sectarian points amongst ourselves.

This is BS. When does a Catholic School remove a statue of Mary and Jesus. That’s blasphemy. The school no longer has the right to affiliate itself with being Catholic. Especially if they have removed the word Catholic and the sacraments. My children went to a Catholic School. There is a reason why parents from all different religions choose a Catholic school knowing that there will be Bible study and mass.

This is what you do. If people are so conflicted, so confused, so whatever, that they do not know what their mission statement is, and if they dismantle their identity, one chunk at a time, then you LEAVE. Take yourselves, your kids, your donations, your ideology, and LEAVE. Go to the public schools, or to private religious schools like Baptist schools if you can afford it. If people aren’t clear on their mission statement, then you might as well go to state schools, and try to remedy what is taught there, at home.
I have to hope that people wake up, smell the coffee, and take some sort of action, make some decisions. Or do nothing, and live with the new world fashioned by; well that’s another topic.

Compliance with the new strategic progressive plan? Did I get this right? From 180 statues to, “at least 18 statues remain.” The rest are in the basement? My thinking is different. Own who you are. Are you a Catholic school or facility? Then you should have added 18 more statues every five years and not removed a single one. The parents of the students should have met, organized, and insisted on adherence to Catholic principles. Otherwise why are they paying that tuition?

If the families of the students freely choose this school as the education provider of choice, then they know going in that it is a religious school, founded by Catholics. If they don’t like that, or don’t like the statues, then don’t go to the school. Period.

The Board should remove Cecily Stock immediately, and re-evaluate this ‘independent school’ crraapp. It was founded as a Catholic school. Where is the harm in keeping it as a Catholic school? Apparently people all over the world flock to it because of what it is, not because of what a bunch of misguided fools think it ought to be.
