At least two people have reportedly been killed and several others have been injured in a suspected terror attack after a van crashed on a pavement in a popular tourist area of Barcelona, authorities have said.
The vehicle hit pedestrians in Las Ramblas, a busy tree-lined promenade in the centre of the city, the Ministry of the Interior said.
Barcelona police have said they suspect that the attack is terror-related. (Telegraph)
The street is one of the most well-known and popular parts of the city, visited by tourists and locals alike.
Images posted on social media appear to show people being tended to as they lay on the street.
Reports of a van ramming attack in Barcelona, Spain flooded social media on August 17 and early reports say that “dozens” have been left injured. Police sources told the news outlet that the suspect used a white van to run down several people and the driver fled on foot.
In an ISIS magazine article from November 2016, ISIS suggested to jihadists how to carry out a successful attack as a lone wolf operative. In the article, ISIS said that a lone wolf should use a vehicle to plow into a crowd and to carry a secondary weapon.
Las Ramblas is a popular street that’s located in Barcelona and is often filled with tourists and locals. The street is known to get crowded, especially during tourist season.

Is ISIS Behind the Car Ramming Today in Las Ramblas, Barcelona
A possible truck ramming attack has taken place in Barcelona, Spain when a driver ran into a crowd. Gun shots have also been reported. La Vanguardia has confirmed an attack and says that “dozens” are injured.
According to Spanish journalist Marta Pastor, the attacker is believed to be from the Maghreb, a region in Northwest Africa. The countries within the region usually include Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya. TV3 of Spain reports that there are two armed people in a Turkish restaurant with hostages.
El Pais writes, “[Las Ramblas] is now cordoned off and the downtown settlements have been evacuated… Police sources have explained that it is a white van that ran down several people, and after the driver fled on foot.” They add that the driver ran over people while they were attempting to cross the street during a traffic light.
