Solomon Schechter. Nothing is sacred. Not to the left and most especially, the Jewish left that has taken the helm of the economic boycott of Israel (BDS), and attacked my work and the work of other proud Zionists. Their religion is politics. They worship at the church of human secularism. And they have destroyed American Jewry.
Flying the Palestinian Jewish day school camp is akin to flying the Nazi flag, and at German Jewish day school in 1938. They are killing Jewish families in their homes, at Shabbat dinner, and these Jewish quislings are raising their flag over Jewish children? The whole of the existence of the “Palestinian” (Islamic) cause is Jew-hatred, in accordance with Islamic text and teachings.
Has a Jewish flag ever flown over a Muslim school or camp? Ever?
I am a huge supporter of Jewish Day Schools. I have long believed that we lost American Jewish youth because they did not have an understanding of Judaism, the book.
Some campers and staff were upset by the raising of the Palestinian flag.
Thank Gd there are still some people with sense. Pull your kids out or demand new leadership.
Solomon Schechter is Jewish Day School Light, but it was good. It’s wasn’t great, but it was better than a leftist public school education. But weaknesses begets compromise, and this is an abomination. Any Jewish readers with children would be well served to look into modern orthodox Jewish day schools. Save your children, save your people.
Palestinian Flag Flies over Camp Solomon Schechter
For over six decades Camp Solomon Schechter alongside the Placid shores of Lake Joshua Stamper has been the gateway to Judaism and love of Israel for generations of young Jewish campers in the Pacific Northwest. For some Schechterites though, their blissful camp experience was jarred late last week by the raising of the Palestinian flag over the storied campgrounds. An email sent by the camp administration acknowledged the incident this past Friday, describing it as one designed to “help develop empathy” and a “teachable moment”. Whatever the intent, the raising of the Palestinian flag over the camp was unexpected and disturbing for some campers, who according to the email expressed “sadness and anger” at the sight. The email sent by the camp noted that this feeling of “uncertainty” was especially true for some of the Israeli campers and staff.
Solomon Schechter administration indicated in their email that they raised the flag as a sign of “friendship and acceptance” for a group of visiting Palestinian Muslims and Christians. The Palestinian delegation, which also included some Israeli children under the auspices of Kids4Peace have joined the camp for the first five days of the new session.
David Jacoby, a lifetime Seattleite and longtime member of the Jewish community expressed disappointment at the actions of the camp. “Solomon Shechter flying the Palestinian flag is a feel-good bromide that creates the illusion of problem-solving” said Jacoby. “It’s well intentioned, but it misses the point. Two decades of peace negotiations between Israel and Palestinians have failed primarily because of the Palestinian’s refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state.” Jacoby’s wife, Beth concurs, adding that “the time to raise the Palestinian flag over our summer camps is when they stop burning the Israeli flag at theirs”.
The camp administration maintained in their email communication that despite their actions, they remain “unabashedly pro-Israel” and “we are celebrating Israel alongside our new friends”.
Acknowledging the strong emotional reaction some of the Shechterites expressed at the sight of the Palestinian flag fluttering over their camp, the administration announced that they would take down the Palestinian flag for Shabbat… along with the Israeli flag.

Jews have got to stop the insane sticking up for Muslims, who will kill them. They might as well stick up for Hitler. These camp administrators with their flag shenanagans must be fired!
Agree. Deporting criminal jihadis is only way or this will continue.

Thoughtful people wonder what, if anything, there is in the character of the Jewish people themselves that faciltated their slaughter in the Holocaust.
It is not to blame the victim to point out that in the attitude displayed by the Jewish camp authorities in this instance, there are some revealing insights into that dilemma.
Unfortunately, they are both revealing and disturbing.
In any case, someone needs to alert those camp authorities that they have dishonored their institution.
I disagree. Palestinians are fed a lot of anti-Israeli propaganda from childhood. The camp was hosting a group of Palestinian kids and raising their flag was a gesture of respect towards their guests. This is a small way of countering the negative propaganda that those kids have gotten.
Okay Erik – you wrote, “These camp administrators with their flag shenanagans must be fired!”
You’ll be happy to hear (but I was sorry to learn) that camp director Sam Perlin has resigned. His intention was to be welcoming. However, he immediately realized that the decision to fly the flag was a bad one. And, he sent out an e-mail so stating. (If nothing else, you don’t want to piss off folks who donate money to the camp.)
Regarding firing someone who makes a bad decision: I have a special term for someone who has never made a mistake: “Inexperienced.” I personally have made plenty of errors, and I hope that I have learned something from them.

Why? Do you really want to create more discord in the Middle East? Do you want to start a war?
What would be the positive result of your destructive suggestion?
I know the Rabbi who is head of Solomon Schecter, Rabbi Blumberg. He is a real jerk.
Many American jews hate Isreal.
Then revoke their right to aliyah, they’ll be finding out allah about muslum antisemitism right here in the dying USA.
These are the Jewish pharisees and sadducees of the Bible. They won’t be making aliyah.
Craig wrote, “Many American jews hate Isreal.”
Okay, but that doesn’t have anything to do with the article about Camp Solomon Schechter. The camp administration certainly doesn’t hate Israel.
I think that displaying the Palestinian flag was an attempt to reach out to reasonable Palestinians in the hope that efforts like this will ultimately result in peace for Israel.
That is certainly not anti-Israel.
The flag was intended to send a message from the Arabs: See? We’re not anti-Semitic, even Jews wave our flag. Support our goal to end a Jewish state…
incorrect. It’s a very small minority, typically toiling for fringe NGOs (jstreet, NIF, jvp, sjp, etc.).
Solomon Schechter the day school movement and Camp Solomon Schechter are two different organizations. There is no Rabbi Blumberg at Camp Solomon Schechter.
I knew the Rabbi of the Day School Movement. I’m pretty sure his name was Blumberg. I didn’t know the Solomon Schecter Camp was run by someone else. Incidentally, when I attend services, I always go to Orthodox services even though I’m not Orthodox. There is a lack of structure in Conseervative and Reform houses of worship.
There was a Rabbi Blumberg affiliated with the Solomon Schechter School in Eastern Pennsylvania.
Sad Indeed. Liberalism run amok. May this school simply close down
It’s not a school. It’s a summer camp.
My point in correcting you is to show that you didn’t carefully read the story, which suggests to me that your “simply close down” comment was also poorly thought out.
Camp Solomon Schechter was hosting a group of Palestinian kids. So far as we know, these particular kids are not murderers or terrorists. However, they are people who could grow up to influence their fellow Palestinians to seek peace with Israel. It makes sense to me that Camp Solomon Schechter would want to extend the hand of peace to them, and to show them respect — in this case, by acknowledging them by raising their flag.
Those responsible for flying that terrorist flag … a symbol of murering Jews, should be fired immediately!
I actually built fencing for that camp years ago and donated a minivan to transport staff and campers. Very sad to see the place going down tue drain.
It’s not going down the drain.
I think that the display of the Palestinian flag was not inappropriate. They were hosting a group of Palestinian kids, and it was intended as a gesture of hospitality and good manners. The flag was intended to be viewed by the people present, and not a display to the rest of the world. It can’t be interpreted as a general position statement by the camp.
Hindsight is 20/20. I’ll bet that if the camp director could have foreseen the angry responses, he would not have permitted the flag’s display. I have to admit that I might have made the same decision that he made.
Of course with our 20/20 hindsight, it’s really easy to find fault with his decision.
However, I must reiterate that this isolated incident and the crazy over reaction that it generated does not mean that the camp is “going down the drain.”
You’re insane, the charter of Hamas cites an authentic ahadith that calls for the worldwide extermination of Jews — and Fatah has no problems whatsoever w/that fact.
Hey, IzlamisTyranny: Yes, I am certainly insane. However, that’s off topic here; not germane to what we’re discussing.
The point that I made is that Camp Solomon Schechter isn’t going down the drain. The camp director made a decision that he probably now regrets. This single isolated incident does not equate to the camp “going down the drain.”
A secondary point is that hindsight is 20/20. It’s very easy for a bunch of people posting on the Internet to jump on and trash a summer camp and its director. It’s much harder to actually run the summer camp.
This camp goes beyond just trying to create fun for a bunch of kids. They try to educate, and challenge people’s thinking. Sometimes the very best educators are the ones that push boundaries. When you do that, it’s possible that you’ll go a step too far. The alternative is to play everything very-very safe, which equates to boredom and reduced learning. In fact, I would say that there is much to be learned from the responses to the display of the Palestinian flag. Reduced risk = reduced reward.
Note that I don’t disagree with anything contained in your post.
That is a disgrace that is beyond toleration. They do not deserve to be called Jews, they are the garbage of Judaism.
Was it not anti-American Seattle?
Every race has their garbage…

What would you expect of the party that booed Jerusalem?
Christians in the PA? Don’t make me f’ing laugh. They’re fast disappearing, just like all the kafir al najjis is outside of Israel in the Mid-East and N. Africa.
Their administration is a shame of the nation. Must be fired.
I hate Jews like that as much as I hate muslims.
Lotsa hating going on, eh?
I would pull my child out immediately and demand a refund and urge others to do the same. Especially on the heels of the slaughter of a family celebrating Shabbat in their own home by a Palestinian which came on the heels of Palestinians killing Israeli police on the Temple Mount with guns they had hidden there. These savages don’t
need our solidarity or understanding or sympathy. Jews everywhere must stand together on the side of what is right and just: Jewish sovereignty and the right to live safely in our homeland without the misguided support of a manufactured narrative made up by a people who never existed held together by their call to to death and destruction of the Jewish people.
My daughter is currently at Camp Solomon Schechter. I think that they’re trying to promote peace and understanding; there’s nothing wrong with that. I agree that Palestinian organizations typically aren’t making a similar effort to extend the hand of peace, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t do so.
jane Blane wrote, “…a manufactured narrative made up by a people who never existed…” Well, they exist now. There is a group of people who -regardless of the history of their ancestors- identify as being Palestinians. Some anti-Israel people make similar statements about Israelis: “They are really Europeans, and don’t have a historical connection to Israel.” My response would be the same. Regardless of ancient history, there IS a country called Israel, and there are people who are citizens of that country, and who identify as Israelis.
I hope the day comes when Israel can live in peace with the countries that surround it. The chance that this will occur seems small, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t make efforts — including reaching out to the Palestinians.
There is no unified people that identify as ‘palestinians’ as this entire term (as used now) didn’t even exist until the 1960s and is a propaganda creation of the funders of this myth: the Pentagon, EU, UN. The ‘palestinians’ come from a variety of regions/ethnicities, some are Arab, some are from the balkans, etc.
It’s quite conspicuous that the founder of kids4peace promotes the ideology that neither side is good nor evil, and that there are no historical truthts but rather there are narratives that must be given equal weight.
The reality of course is that the father of palestinian nationalism (Husseini), not only sold thousands of dunams of land to Jews, but also headed the SS Handzar for Adolf Eichmann and facilitated the genocide of Serbs, Jews, and Roma during WWII. The current palestinian leadership proudly rewards and encourages the slaughter of Jewish civilians and children. Raising the flag that salutes these depraved ideologies is a most sickening thing. Rational people understand that there are no ‘equal narratives’.
The Zionists (both Jewish, Muslim, and Christian) are righteous and good. The 3rd Reich allied genociders, the muslim clerical fascists, the leaders that reward the killers of civilians, are indeed quite evil.
Until these ‘reaching out’ efforts can address these facts and be grounded in reality, they will remain the exercises in deceit and dishonesty that they are today, where they exist solely to promote lies that are to the detriment of the Jewish people, lies designed to whitewash and rehabilitate the most vile clerical fascist muslim ideologies in the world today, ideologies leading to the slaughter and enslavement of people in numerous regions.
P. Nile Schwartz wrote, “There is no unified people that identify as ‘palestinians’ as this

Let’s make it simple: Unified or not unified (not sure what the term “unified” means in this context), there IS a group of people who identify themselves as being Palestinian.
I acknowledge your reference to historical occurrences. However, at a certain point, don’t we just have to recognize that these people exist, and that this is the term that they want applied to themselves?
I use a similar logic when responding to a person who says that Israel shouldn’t exist because of that person’s interpretation of historical events. My response is that the country that we call Israel DOES exist today, and it’s not productive to suggest that it ought not to exist.
The same logic could also be applied to the United States. Okay, so the Europeans who formed the USA unjustly took over land and killed off the natives. Very bad, but here we are now. The USA DOES exist, just as does Israel and the Palestinian people.
——-
It sounds to me like the folks at Camp Solomon Schechter were reaching out to the Palestinian community as a hopeful gesture of peace and friendship and they invited some young Palestinians to camp. If one invites guests over, then it seems appropriate that the guests should be treated with respect. Raising their flag was intended to be a gesture of friendship & respect to those individuals. It was not intended to be a statement to the outside world. Although they might not have been politically beneficial, the camp’s actions were certainly well-intentioned.
Zoher Mohsen: “The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct “Palestinian people” to oppose Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.”
Regardless of how often the anti-Israel and big-lie spewing media repeat the lie, there is no ‘palestinian people’. No big surprise that all tenets of their complaints are predicated on lies (eg. palestinian Arab leaders attacked Jews of the yishuv long before Israel was founded).
Whether or not CSS was ‘well intentioned’ when respecting and flying a symbol of genocidal hatred while hosting a State Department-funded group predicated on the lie that ‘neither side is all good’, is indeed impossible to determine. It would have been nice to see CSS host actual grass-roots (i.e. no US government or NGO funding) Muslims and Christians interested in peace.
Interesting comments from P. Nile Schwartz.
My understanding is that the term “Palestine” was derived from the term “Philistine”, and was chosen specifically to annoy Jews. I also acknowledge your statements about the origins of the Palestinian people.
Your statements may very well be true. However, there are actually people out there who sincerely identify as being Palestinians. It’s true that some of those people are terrorists. However, some are not. More importantly, we need to figure out if there is anything that we can do to make it more likely that fewer Palestinians will be hostile toward reaching peace with Israel. Frankly, I’m not optimistic. However, I cannot complain when someone makes an effort. It looks to me like that’s what Camp Solomon Schechter was doing.
P. Nile Schartz concluded, ” It would have been nice to see CSS host actual grass-roots (i.e. no US
government or NGO funding) Muslims and Christians interested in peace.”
Response: Okay. My guess is that like the rest of us, Sam Perlin, the camp director has limited time and energies. Quite possibly, this group presented itself to him, so he said “okay.” He might not have the time to search out the grass-roots Muslims and Christians that you mention. If you would do the legwork and present those grass-roots individuals to him, then he might go for it.
It’s not my job to present things to Perlin–it’s his job to vet whatever he is presenting/celebrating, and to nix it if it’s rabidly anti-Israel. While the visitors are definitely fairly benign, the embracing of narratives in lieu of facts that are the foundation of these NGOs is entirely anti-Israel and to the detriment of the Jewish people (all anti-Israel NGOs, which MUST emphasize that ‘there are no truths, there are just narratives…’ because they know that the truths expose the falsehoods upon which the palestinian flag/nationalism is based).
Perlin chose to dabble in politics, and he made a horrible choice.
You mention what can we do to make it more likely that fewer Palestinians will be hostile toward reaching peace with Israel. All we can do is pressure US leader to pressure the PA and hamas to stop broadcasting neo-nazi Jewhatred to Arabs, stop remunerating the killers of Jewish civilians, stop infantilizing palestinian Arabs by funding their steady diet of all-consuming Jewhatred, which is a regressive/failure ideology.
We’ve already experienced a shrunken Israel (Jews cleansed from Sinai, Gaza, various neighborhoods) and the aforementioned policies have continued unabated, so I’d have to agree that there’s no reason for optimism.
Hoisting the flag of Husseini/Arafat nationalism, thus legitimizing clerical fascism and narratives over facts is definitely no help.
P. Nile Schwarz wrote, “All we can do is pressure US leader to pressure the PA and hamas to stop
broadcasting neo-nazi Jewhatred to Arabs, stop remunerating the killers
of Jewish civilians”
I noticed in today’s news that the U.S. has started exerting that pressure. Evidently, they decided to stop sending foreign aid to Palestinians. One reason given was the policy of giving money to Palestinians who attack Israelis.
Also, “We’ve already experienced a shrunken Israel (Jews cleansed from Sinai, Gaza…”
Israel gave Gaza back to Egypt in exchange for a peace agreement. That appears to have worked; the peace with Egypt has held.
On the other hand, Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza was an experiment in “land for peace” that didn’t work as well. This provides a fairly strong justification for not doing the same thing with the West Bank (AKA “Judea”).
Unfortunately, I’m not very optimistic about prospects for peace in and around Israel. It would be nice, but. . .
They were not reaching out. They were reaching for a donation. See my OpEd article at Arutz Sheva or kapkanwatch.blogspot.com. Be sure to read the hyperlinks.
That is a flag of surrender to Palestinian terrorists.
Like the Stockholm Syndrome.
This is how true Americans defend their country from domestic enemies.
4 U.S. Code § 7(c) “…No person shall display the flag of the United Nations or any other national or international flag equal, above, or in a position of superior prominence or honor to, or in place of, the flag of the United States at any place within the United States or any Territory or possession thereof: Provided, That nothing in this section shall make unlawful the continuance of the practice heretofore followed of displaying the flag of the United Nations in a position of superior prominence or honor, and other national flags in positions of equal prominence or honor, with that of the flag of the United States at the headquarters of the United Nations.”
Looks like this camp is serving grape cool aid. Concentratrd.
the camp administators are guilty of misleading the parents who sent their kids to the camp under false pretences – no sane Jewish parent would have sent their kids to the camp knowing that the idiots who run it would have exposed their kids to this sort of rubbish and indoctrination!
I sent my kid to Camp Solomon Schechter. I must be insane !!
How does one reach Pamela Geller in person? How does one explain to her that the Fountainhead of all mankind’s homophobia is the Torah? The anti-Israel Jews aren’t lefties, Pam, they’re gays. If you were a leader of the gay liberation movement you’d realize there’ll never be an end to homophobia without an end to the Torah. And there’ll never be an end to the Torah without an end to Israel and the Jews. Recognize them for what they are, Pam, plain old Sodomites out of Genesis. What does the Torah say should be done with them, who remembers?
I taught second grade at the Solomon Schechter school in Pennsylvania while a physics major in grad school. I already had my BS in elementary education and physics. Even then, decades ago, the staff was intolerably left – intolerant, dogmatic, and too blindly liberal to be good teachers. I left the same day they brought a Japanese woman into my class to tell my students that the US was responsible for Pearl Harbor and that bombing Japan was a criminal act. I argued the truth to a dead mind and walked out, for good. Solomon Schechter Camp – not surprised.
Also while there, they brought invited an Israeli soldier, a Sabra, a female, into the classroom who was told NOT to talk about the ‘palestinians.’
