JERUSALEM — After days of violent protests, bloodshed and a diplomatic crisis with Jordan over the placement of metal detectors at the entrances to the Aqsa Compound in Jerusalem’s Old City, the Israeli government said early Tuesday it would remove them.

The decision came after a day of intense discussions between leaders of Israel and Jordan, the custodian of the shrine. It also occurred hours after the end of a standoff prompted by a confrontation at the Israeli Embassy in Amman, Jordan, that led to the deaths of two Jordanians. The standoff appeared to have eased late Monday, with the arrival of the embassy staff back in Israel.

I am very disappointed and surprised that Israel caved to the demands of these terrorists. Caving like this is like pouring gasoline onto the situation and tossing a match to it.
Israel’s leaders have a long history of caving in – to the west, to their fantasies of what the west would want them to do and to terrorists. But then that is all the rage everywhere in the west these days. The not very difficult concept: If you reward a behavior, you get more of it appears to elude Israel, Europe and frighteningly the US increasingly. Asia a dystopian science fiction film. Being Israeli, I have had many years to ponder this departure from the logic of the rest of life. If a kid gets bullied in school and tells his parents, do they tell him to give him candy? And the same people who are able to get this logic in parenting, marriage, managing their careers suddenly become idiots when the same thing happens to their (in this case my) entire country, even when the threat of destroying becomes real. I’m just so disappointed in Israel over this foolish decision. So two Israeli policemen were murdered and supposed a few more will need to before possibly some sanity prevails. That said, I think you are right regarding the West’s “fantasies of what the west would want them to do and to terrorists.” I’m South African, now live overseas – with not much enthusiasm for the gutlessness I see – took a pubic stand against apartheid, but still had respect for the government of that time over it’s willingness to tell the rest of the world to go to hell with its ‘double standards and selective morality’. Israel should do the same. In the end the West got it wanted in South Africa and now the country is a total, African-made mess, the highest crime rate in the world, but hallelujah thick as pigs dung Western world, it wanted majority rule. It wanted majority rule in Rhodesia and got the Zimbabwe ruin – and tens of thousands murdered by Mugabe’s savages. Really ‘bright’ stuff from the West that incessantly inflicts its stupidity on Israel and is destroying itself in Western Europe.
Muslims will again murder Israelis on Temple Mount and elsewhere – and the Muslims will rejoice. I hope that all round Temple Square Israel will have marksmen with orders to shoot any Muslim who produces a weapon or draws a weapon to do so, and that if a few around them get killed, then ‘tough luck’ because I will rejoice. Why on earth did Israel leave al-Aqsa Mosque standing? Everywhere Muslims take over they’ve destroyed churches and synagogues, or as in the case of Hagia Sophia, turned it into a museum.
Here’s hoping – that when there is an explosion that no Israelis get hurt.

50 years of Israel from her inception giving in to terror, from allowing the Arab Terrorist Occupiers to stay in Israel, to winning the 6 day war and giving terrorists control of Israel and the Jews holy site The Temple Mount, to trading thousands of living terrorists for a couple of dead Israeli soldiers.
How can Israel lobby the world on how to deal with terrorists when all israel does is make bad deals with terrorists? Will Israel never learn from over 50 years of Arab terrorism?

This is a terrible decision. It shows weakness in the face of riots and terrorism.
That just encourages those who riot and commit terrorist acts and those who encourage them to do so.
Israel will come to regret this decision. Whatever possessed Israeli leaders to cave in like this is beyond me.

Muslims who smuggle guns and knives and other weaponry on to the Temple Mount will no longer have to pass through metal detectors. Jews, Christians and other non-Muslims who DON’T smuggle weapons on to the Temple Mount WILL have to continue to pass through metal detectors as they have been doing for over 10 years without incident. We are our own worst enemy.

Disappointing response by both governments. Israel should not give in to Jihadis. But Jordan also should not give in to the demands of their fellow travelers. It’s not good for business, safety, or law and order.
Metal detectors seems like a rather trivial level of security considering the recent violence.
It’s rather obvious, Jews and tourists are likely to die as a result of this myopic, diplomatic decision.

Israel capitulates to terrorists once again. The fact that the metal detectors were put there in response to a terrorist attack seems lost on those who insisted that, once again, Israeli Jews have to make themselves targets of those who hate them and want them all dead.

This is a deliberate ploy by Israel. There will be another attack on Jews as a result of this. Israeli leaders know this and are prepared for it. They are willing to sacrifice more of their people to Muslim terror to justify what they will do afterwards. I don’t know what it will be, but I expect a short nuclear war by the end of September of this year. The Muslims are leaving Israel no other options! Any and all concessions to Islam by Israel only leads to more unreasonable demands.
The real pressure on Bibi may be coming from the desire to hold the Israel-Arab coalition together long enough to destroy Iran’s bomb-making capability.

I grew up with a Jewish Family who are the best friends that I have, their parents were my “Aunt & Uncle”, so I love God’s chosen people but they are asking for more violence by removing the metal detectors. ALL who want to enter needs to go through a metal detector and a THOROUGH body search, complete with body orifices! ISRAEL, WAKE THE HELL UP AND PROTECT YOUR PEOPLE! PERIOD & by any means necessary!
