President Donald Trump on Thursday took to Twitter to issue some scathing criticism about reports that special counsel Robert Mueller was going to investigate him for obstruction, calling the direction of the query a “witch hunt” based in partisan politics.
First, Trump tweeted this: “They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story. Nice.”

And then he followed that with another tweet, even more scathing.
You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history – led by some very bad and conflicted people! #MAGA

“You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history — led by some very bad and conflicted people! #MAGA,” he wrote.
It’s true: there hasn’t been any proof presented about Team Trump’s supposed collusion with Russia during the 2016 elections.
But now Mueller, who’s been appointed to look into that charge, has now announced he’s going to interview top-ranking executive officials to ask them if they were told by Trump to help stop the FBI investigation into collusion.
It does have all the makings of a political witch hunt.
From NBC News:
“President Donald Trump on Thursday morning once again dismissed the Russia investigation as a ‘phony story’ and blasted federal investigators as “bad and conflicted people” after a report said special counsel Robert Mueller is examining whether the president attempted to obstruct justice.
“Trump has repeatedly lambasted the Russia probe as a ‘witch hunt,’ using the phrase in at least eight tweets since March.
“Mueller and his team of investigators are interviewing senior intelligence officials about Trump’s role as part of an expanded probe, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday night. NBC News has not confirmed that the president is under investigation.
“Those who have agreed to be interviewed, according to the Post, include Dan Coats, director of national intelligence; Mike Rogers, chief of the National Security Agency; and Richard Ledgett, who recently left his post as deputy to Rogers.
“Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Trump’s personal lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, criticized the Post report: ‘The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal.’
“The report in the Post cited anonymous sources who had been briefed on requests made by Mueller’s investigators. It was not known whether the FBI was the source of the information in the report.”
Let the political games begin — again.
