“My hijab is my choice,” Muslimas in the U.S. constantly insist, and if you disagree, you’re a racist-islamofauxbic-antimuslim-bigot. Tell the women who discarded their cloth coffins as they fled ISIS that it’s a choice. They know firsthand that it’s a badge of slavery imposed by force.

“Route to Raqa dotted with discarded veils, burned cars,” by Ayham al-Mohammad, AFP, May 3, 2017:

Dozens of black veils dotted a freshly laid sand berm in northern Syria, ditched by women fleeing the Islamic State group’s bastion of Raqa as US-backed fighters close in.

Outside the village of Tishreen Farms, 17 kilometres (10 miles) north of Raqa, the Syrian Democratic Forces could be seen laying sandbags to protect themselves from IS car bombs and snipers.

With air support from the US-led coalition, the alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters has seized swathes of territory from the jihadists, who were stationed less than a kilometre away.

SDF fighters told AFP that women hastily shed their IS-mandated black veils after crossing into SDF territory near Tishreen Farms, revealing vibrant, patterned robes underneath.

“Most of the women tear off their robes and burqas as soon as they arrive at our positions,” an SDF fighter said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“Some of the women stomp on the robes because they finally feel safe and are finished with Daesh,” he added, using the Arabic acronym for IS….

I think it would be helpful if, in a non-aggressive manner, people dealing with hajib-wearing muslimas in their daily lives in the USA would matter-of-factly note that probably millions of Moslem women throughout the world are forced, on the threat of death or having acid thrown in their eyes, to wear the accoutrements expected of Moslem women. It is, accordingly, unseemly for muslimas in the West to don this subservient apparel- it shows contempt for their sisters in traditional Moslem societies and the suffering to which they are subjected for attempting to express their individuality.

I did this recently to a hajib-wearing Moslem woman who assisted me in a bank recently. She handled the matter with aplomb, although I sensed I didn’t convince her in any way. But repetition might help. I think the next time I encounter this, I will ask for another bank representative to assist me and express my rationale to the branch manager. In my case, that might have done no good, as the branch manager came to assist the transaction anyway, and she too was wearing a hajib.

I am curious though what would happen to Orthodox Jews who fail to toe the line on matters of attire. I doubt they would be murdered or blinded for flouting the norms in their community, but what would the consequences be? Might they be shunned?

I m Black and I am disgusted by low self esteem attention seeking Black Americans who all of a sudden are more Islamic than the Arabs who invented the religion. All of a sudden they want to wear hijab on basketball courts, in court houses, in the work place, on fencing teams, and agitate for religious rights more than the Arabs in America do. Even though Arabs hate Blacks more than Whites do, enslaved Blacks before and after slavery in America. They will be used like douche bags by Arabs who already treat them like dogs in the inner cities, and who discriminate against them in the mosques!!

Only a small percentage of “whites” hate “blacks”
A small percentage of “blacks” also hate “whites”

Women are best at expressing the joy of liberation. This reminds me of Paris in the summer of 1944.

Syrian and Iraqi women typically don’t wear a veil or hijab, save for the small minority who are from Muslim fundamentalist families. As an Orthodox Christian born in Syria, that’s why I’m shocked that virtually all women from the region coming to the West wear one or the other. I can’t help but think that the immigration of these fundamentalists over the westernized majority is intentional on the part of our leaders.
