At the end of this disgraceful but all too typical Huffington Post article, John Guandolo says that the information he provides “can’t be debunked with facts, only by name calling.” Christopher Mathias proves that abundantly in this hit piece. He calls Guandolo an “anti-Muslim bigot,” a “conspiracy theorist,” a “disgraced former FBI agent,” and an “anti-Muslim extremist.” He “would be a comical figure if he wasn’t given credibility.” He has “deep ties to anti-Muslim hate groups,” and a “record of pushing ‘bigoted’ and ‘downright bizarre’ theories about Muslims in the U.S.”; he spreads “lies and misinformation to law enforcement about Muslims”; he is a leading proponent of the thoroughly debunked ‘civilization jihad’ conspiracy theory”; and obviously an enemy of all that the Huffington Post regards as good and decent.

“Anti-Muslim Extremist Is Training Police In Arizona,” by Christopher Mathias, Huffington Post, May 16, 2017:
An anti-Muslim bigot and conspiracy theorist is being paid thousands of dollars in public funds this week to train Arizona law enforcement officers about the “jihadi” threat in the U.S., despite calls for the training to be canceled.
The Mesa Police Department is hosting John Guandolo ― a disgraced former FBI agent with deep ties to anti-Muslim hate groups ― at a police facility for a three-day seminar titled, “Understanding and Investigating the Jihadi Network.”
The Council on American-Islamic Relations this month launched an online petition ― now with more than 2,000 signatures ― calling for the training to be canceled, citing Guandolo’s record of pushing “bigoted” and “downright bizarre” theories about Muslims in the U.S.
Three paragraphs in, and all there is so far is name-calling and the authority of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) to tell us why Guandolo is so bad. Mathias doesn’t mention, of course, that CAIR is an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding case — so named by the Justice Department. CAIR officials have repeatedly refused to denounce Hamas and Hizballah as terrorist groups. Several former CAIR officials have been convicted of various crimes related to jihad terror. CAIR’s cofounder and longtime Board chairman (Omar Ahmad), as well as its chief spokesman (Ibrahim Hooper), have made Islamic supremacist statements about how Islamic law should be imposed in the U.S. (Ahmad denies this, but the original reporter stands by her story.) A California chapter distributed a poster telling Muslims not to talk to the FBI, and a Florida chapter distributed pamphlets with the same message. CAIR has opposed virtually every anti-terror measure that has been proposed or implemented and has been declared a terror organization by the United Arab Emirates. A CAIR operative recently called for the overthrow of the U.S. government.
For the Huffington Post, none of that matters. They want you to take CAIR’s word for it that Guandolo is a bad guy. If confronted with all this, Mathias would probably say something like this: “CAIR has ties to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood? So what? The enemy of my enemy is my friend!”
“It’s unacceptable to have him training Arizona law enforcement officers,” the petition says.
“Unacceptable,” says CAIR. “Unacceptable.” Listen to your master, dhimmis! Rush to do his bidding!
The seminar started Tuesday as scheduled.
Score one for truth and justice.
Guandolo was forced to resign from the FBI in 2009 after it was revealed he’d had a sexual relationship with an informant in a high-profile corruption case, and tried to solicit money from her.
The HuffPo’s source for this is Talking Points Memo, so all claims must be taken with a large grain of salt. But even if these charges are true, they are completely irrelevant to the truth or falsehood of what Guandolo says about the jihad threat.
He’s since made a career working with anti-Muslim groups, and spreading lies and misinformation to law enforcement about Muslims, who he sees as terrorists or potential terrorists.
Through his consulting company, Understanding the Threat, Guandolo is a leading proponent of the thoroughly debunked “civilization jihad” conspiracy theory, which holds that American Muslims have hatched a massive, secret plot to take over the U.S. and implement sharia, or Islamic law.
Debunked? Really? The HuffPo’s link on “debunked” goes to a piece from the Saudi-funded Bridge Initiative. The Bridge “debunking” centers upon the claim that the memorandum “was not a formal plan accepted by the Brotherhood, and it didn’t have influence in other Muslim circles,” and that claims to the contrary “unsurprisingly appeal to Americans who are already suspicious of Muslims.” Bridge attempted to support these claims with the further assertion that “according to a 2009 opinion by the presiding judge, the memo was not considered ‘supporting evidence’ for that alleged money laundering scheme, nor any other conspiracy” – including, presumably, one aimed at “eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within.” The language by Mohamed Akram, the author of the Muslim Brotherhood’s “civilization jihad” memorandum, was, according to Bridge, “wishful, and does not reflect the Muslim Brotherhood’s agenda as outlined in documents obtained by the FBI. Asking that his memo be added ‘to the Council agenda in its coming meeting’ in 1991, Akram frames it as a ‘letter’ that contains his ‘hopes, ambitions and challenges.’ In listing a number of American Muslim organizations in the appendix, he even says: ‘Imagine if they all march according to one plan!!! [sic].’” The memorandum was, in short, one man’s “fantasy.”
No fantasy at all, however, was the fact that the Bridge Initiative was itself tied to the Muslim Brotherhood. Bridge’s Project Director, John Esposito, has called Muslim Brotherhood Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who advocates jihad-martyrdom suicide bombings, a champion of a “reformist interpretation of Islam and its relationship to democracy, pluralism and human rights.” Esposito has praised CAIR as a “phenomenal organization.” He has spoken at CAIR fundraisers in order, he explained, to “show solidarity not only with the Holy Land Fund, but also with CAIR.” Esposito was referring to the Holy Land Foundation, an Islamic charity that was shut down and prosecuted for funneling money to the jihad terror group Hamas. Esposito himself also refuses to condemn Hamas, as the Investigative Project notes: “In a 2000 interview in The United Association for Studies and Research’s (UASR) Middle East Affairs Journal, Esposito refused to condemn Hamas, which at the time was already designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) by the U.S. State Department.” Esposito has also co-edited a book, Islam and Secularism in the Middle East, with Azzam Tamimi. Palestinian political scientist Muhammad Muslih calls Tamimi “a Hamas member.” Tamimi has said: “I admire the Taliban; they are courageous,” and “I support Hamas.” In its Charter, Hamas styles itself the Muslim Brotherhood for Palestine.
In light of those and other ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, it is understandable that the Bridge Initiative would be anxious to discredit Akram’s memorandum and portray it as insignificant. Bridge’s case, however, founders on the facts. The Center for Security Policy (CSP) noted that “the Bridge Initiative treats the Explanatory Memorandum as the aspirations of a single man, but ignores the fact that events described in the memorandum actually happened. Most notably, the merger of the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) with the Muslim Brotherhood. Akram makes reference in the Explanatory Memorandum to the discussed merger of the Group with the ‘Islamic Circle’ (meaning the Islamic Circle of North America.)…It can in fact be shown that ICNA began to publicly identify with the Muslim American Society (MAS), which federal prosecutors have referred to as the “overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood” by holding joint MAS-ICNA conventions beginning in 2001.” The CSP adds that “far from one man’s ‘fantasy’ Akram describes in the Memorandum proposals for events which do in fact take place….Akram’s explanatory memorandum fits into a historical context of what the Brotherhood had done in the past, was proposing to do, and what it in fact can later be shown to have accomplished.”
As for Bridge’s claim that “Akram’s arguments and phrasing in Arabic are rarely found on the web and not found in Islamic doctrine or literature,” the CSP points out that “Akram’s memorandum was never intended to be read by the public at large at all, but only by high level members of his own organization” – thus there is no reason for anyone to be surprised that Akram’s “ideas are not widespread online.” What’s more, counterterror experts took Akram’s memorandum quite seriously. The former U.S. deputy chief for Counterterrorism at the Department of Justice, Jeff Breinholt, remarked: “For the first time that was almost direct proof of what we had long suspected about their true political goals in the United States…Something like the explanatory memo is a bonanza for the art of intelligence because it actually is the target or the subject speaking in their own words about what they intend. You don’t have to read too much into that.” Nathan Garret, a former FBI Agent and federal prosecutor, noted: “The organizations that were on that list represented a huge segment of the Islamic voice in North America at the time. The Memorandum not only named names, it candidly revealed just how the Brotherhood viewed the United States — as a target of conquest.”[11]
He once claimed that a Delaware imam was signaling “civilization jihad” when he touched his nose during the Pledge of Allegiance.
This link goes to a video from Guandolo’s organization, Understanding the Threat. It shows an imam in Delaware leading Islamic prayers at the Delaware State Senate. The Pledge of Allegiance follows after the prayers. The imam doesn’t just touch his nose during the Pledge; he turns only tardily and desultorily to the flag, ostentatiously never puts his hand over his heart, and fiddles around (including but not limited to scratching his nose) during the Pledge. Guandolo takes these as indications that the imam has no interest in saying the Pledge, and does not have allegiance to the U.S. Given the teachings of the Qur’an and the nature of political Islam, these are entirely reasonable conclusions, which Mathias deliberately misrepresents, leaving his HuffPo readers with the impression that a loyal American imam just happened to touch his nose while devoutly reciting the Pledge and is thus being accused of disloyalty. But Mathias says nothing about any of the actual context; he is trying to portray Guandolo as a nut, and the facts be damned.
Guandolo made the unhinged claim last year that Muslims are buying up U.S. gas stations and hotels as part of a coordinated “insurgency,” and because they’re “preparing for a jihad.”
Here again, the source is Right Wing Watch, and so its claims must be greeted with skepticism, but note that Mathias makes no attempt to refute this claim with any evidence. It’s just “unhinged.” Why? Because Christopher Mathias, an enlightened Leftist, says so, you racist, bigoted Islamophobe. Have Muslim business owners been convicted of money laundering in the U.S.? Yes. Are any Muslims in the U.S. preparing for jihad? Obviously, as there have been jihad attacks and plots recently in the U.S.: Fresno, San Bernardino, Garland, Orlando, etc. But like so many Leftists, it’s enough for Mathias to present Guandolo’s assertions. He takes them as self-evidently absurd, and knows his witless readers will also.
In another interview, Guandolo cited a bogus study that said 80 percent of American mosques preach violence and extremism. The government, he said, should shut down those mosques and arrest their leaders.
Bogus? Once again this is based on the Saudi-funded Bridge Initiative’s claims. Bridge misrepresents Sheikh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani’s findings as an “anecdote” that he didn’t support by any evidence. In reality, Kabbani toured 114 American mosques in 1998, investigated their literature, and testified before a State Department Open Forum about his findings in January 1999. He took his study offline after threats from his fellow Muslims. Bridge also denigrates two other studies that found the same thing because one man, David Yerushalmi, was involved in both, although the other principals were different. Why should these studies be discounted? Because Yerushalmi has acted as an attorney for Pamela Geller and me. Why should another study be dismissed? Because it notes correctly that jihadis are all devout Muslims, and that therefore a turn to devout observance of Islam is an indicator of “radicalization” — and because the hard-Left hate propaganda group the Southern Poverty Law Center criticized it. It dismisses another study on the preposterous claim that mosques in which jihadi literature was found may not have endorsed that literature.
Above all, does Bridge present any countervailing study? Does it produce a study showing that most or even many mosques teach democratic pluralism, secular government, women’s rights? No, and it cannot do so, because no such study exists.
A recent Understanding The Threat fundraising email made the baseless claim that American mosques and Islamic centers are “organizing for armed confrontation with law-enforcement,” and that Muslims are researching “churches and other targets” for an “enemy” insurgency.
Recently I was speaking with an Orthodox priest who told me that several months ago, two Turkish Muslims started showing up for the Divine Liturgy every week. They weren’t interested in converting; instead, they would engage the parishioners in discussions in which they tried to convert them to Islam. They were later arrested and deported for jihad terror activity. Another Orthodox church in California was targeted by Muslims screaming “Allahu akbar” through a bullhorn. But don’t be concerned: Mathias says concern about this is “baseless.”
“Hate group” according to whom? The Southern Poverty Law Center, of course, which stigmatizes legitimate organizations that are dedicated to calling attention to the jihad threat by lumping them in with real hate groups such as the KKK. The MSA is a Muslim Brotherhood organization. Only greasy Islamophobes would think that the MSA chapters recruit jihadis, right? Check this out from Discover the Networks:
- On October 22, 2000, Ahmed Shama, then-president of the UCLA Muslim Students Association, led a crowd of demonstrators at the Israeli consulate in chants of “Death to Israel!” and “Death to the Jews!” One guest speaker at the event was Hussam Ayloush, a member of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which co-sponsored the rally. In his speech, Ayloush solicited contributions for the Holy Land Foundation, which was a supporter and fundraiser for Hamas.
- MSA members at UCLA have raised money for Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists at their annual “Anti-Zionist Week.”
- In March 2003, guest speaker Muhammad Faheed told an MSA meeting at Queensborough Community College in New York, “The only relationship you should have with America is to topple it!”
- At its Annual Conference in 2003, the Iowa MSA invited, as a guest speaker, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad, who had previously, proudly identified himself as “a supporter of the Hamas movement.”
- The University of Southern California MSA invited Taliban ambassador Sayyid Hashimi to speak on campus six months before 9/11.
- The MSA chapter at California State University-Northridge held a fundraiser for Islamic Relief Worldwide, an organization that received a $50,000 contribution from a pro-Osama bin Laden front group based in Canada.
- In 2002, James Madison University”s MSA sponsored a “Jihad” panel that included Dr. Abdulrahman Hijazi, who had previously extolled an Islamic suicide bomber as a “martyr” whose actions were animated by hopes of securing “the mercy of Allah” by way of “one of the greatest good deeds, which is jihad.”
- In 2003, University of Idaho MSA president Sami Omar Al-Hussayen, who had sought access to a chemical lab containing nuclear material, was ordered deported because he worked for the al Qaeda-tied Islamic Assembly of North America.
- At the 7th annual MSA West Conference held at the University of Southern California in January 2005, former MSA UCLA member Ahmed Shama said: “We want to restore Islam to the leadership of society.”¦ The goal “¦ is the reestablishment of the Islamic form of government.” Shama praised Hamas and Hezbollah for being “uncompromising” on their principles, and for refusing to “shake hands with the other side.” He lauded the terrorist leader Muqtada al-Sadr for “legitimately fighting against [U.S.] occupation” in Iraq. He identified Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood as part of the “mainstream Islamic movement.” And he praised Hamas” resolve that “the only solution to the current [Israeli] occupation is military resistance.”
- At the February 2006 MSA West Conference at Sacramento State University, guest speaker Abdel Malik-Ali praised the late Hamas founder Ahmed Yassin and rejoiced at Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s failing health. He also said, “Last week, we were all feeling so good — we were all feeling so good — because of what happened with Hamas” — a reference to the fact that the terrorist group had just won a large percentage of seats in the Palestinian Authority (PA) elections.
- At MSA’s West Zone Conference on the UC-Berkeley campus in April 2007, MSA West president Amir Mertaban delivered a speech in which he emphasized the importance of unwavering loyalty to all fellow Muslims, regardless of what transgressions they may have committed: “Don’t ever compromise on Islam! And don’t ever compromise on your Muslim brothers and sisters in which you have no evidence. Osama bin Laden – I don’t know this guy. I don’t know what he did. I don’t know what he said. I don’t know what happened. But we defend Muslim brothers and we defend our Muslim sisters to the end…. In every aspect of Islam you are confident. Four wives? Yes men are allowed to have four wives within this context. Jihad? Yes Jihad! Jihad is the tightest thing in Islam. Don’t compromise on these little things. Be proud of it. Why? Because Islam is a perfect religion.–
- Each year since 2005, MSA and many of its campus chapters have participated in “Israeli Apartheid Week,” a series of events designed “to educate people about the nature of Israel as an apartheid system and to build Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns” against the Jewish state.
The HuffPo isn’t even close to being finished heaping mud on Guandolo’s name and reputation. Mathias continues:
He has also accused former CIA Director John Brennan of secretly converting to Islam; has called for CAIR officials to be locked up; and has said mosques have no First Amendment rights.
Guandolo said that Brennan’s conversion was an open secret in the Bureau when he was there. Here is more evidence of it, from sources other than Guandolo. Several former CAIR officials have been already been locked up after being convicted of various crimes related to jihad terror. The First Amendment is not a license to commit treason or sedition. Guandolo was saying just that: that neither Muslims nor anyone else should be able to hide behind the First Amendment while working to subvert the U.S. government. The First Amendment is not a free pass to break other American laws.
“Guandolo would be a comical figure if he wasn’t given credibility ― and public money,” CAIR’s petition says. “It’s time for these Arizona officials to stop mainstreaming hate and cancel Guandolo’s training.”
In reality, the Huffington Post is mainstreaming Hamas-linked CAIR’s campaign of character assassination.
Guandolo’s appearance is sponsored by the Arizona Police Association, a statewide coalition of police groups. But the seminar is being funded with taxpayer dollars from the office of Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery.
Good. Enough of our taxpayer dollars went, courtesy Barack Obama, to Sunni jihad groups in Syria, and to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Those totals dwarf what is being given for this training.
Amanda Jicinto, a spokeswoman for Montgomery, told HuffPost that he approved two grants worth $28,000 for the Arizona Police Association to sponsor law enforcement trainings, but was unaware what those trainings would entail. (Montgomery faced a big backlash in 2014, when it was revealed his office directly paid Guandolo $40,000 in taxpayer money for another training seminar.)
Michael Dvorak, Mesa Police Department interim chief, has said that Guandolo’s training this week would be his last in the department’s facilities.
In that case, Michael Dvorak is a dhimmi coward.
Arizona Police Association’s executive director, Levi Bolton, this month rejected a CAIR request that he cancel Guandolo’s training, then bizarrely asked CAIR officials to report to police for a “sworn deposition.”
The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups, wrote this week that Guandolo’s training could lead law enforcement officers to violate the civil liberties of Muslims in America.
Why is the SPLC a neutral, impartial arbiter of what constitutes a “hate group”? It isn’t, of course. It doesn’t list any Leftist groups as hate groups, even in these days of the violent thugs of Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives Matter, and Antifa.
“Given Guandolo’s history of loony pronouncements and his casual smearing of all Muslims, any ‘strategy’ Guandolo might impart could lead to the harassment and racial profiling of minorities who are perceived to be followers of Islam,” the law center wrote.
“Could lead law enforcement officers to violate…could lead to the harassment and racial profiling of minorities…” The SPLC has to say this could happen because it never actually has happened. Guandolo has given these seminars all over the country. If anyone was ever subsequently victimized, the SPLC and Mathias would have told you. But nothing of that kind has ever happened, so the SPLC can only resort to dire warnings unsupported by even a shred of evidence.
Guandolo is among a handful of anti-Muslim extremists, including Ryan Mauro and Chris Gaubatz, who regularly train law enforcement agencies across the country. According to a report from the Center for New Community ― which seeks to monitor “the anti-Muslim movement’s efforts to indoctrinate law enforcement with hate” ― these extremists delivered 13 training seminars for police in 2016.
Public outrage has led other law enforcement agencies to pull out of Guandolo seminars. But, according to the Center for New Community, Guandolo is still being hired. He has trainings scheduled for later this year in Mississippi and Nevada.
Not “public outrage.” Outrage from hard-Left propagandists such as Christopher Mathias, willing water-carriers for Hamas-linked Muslim Brotherhood groups.
Guandolo didn’t respond to a HuffPost request for comment.
In an interview with ABC 15 this week, Guandolo said police officers “understand that there’s a real threat that exists in the United States and that it is a significant threat.”
“There’s a massive network here in the United States, and it includes groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations and the Islamic Community Center of Phoenix,” he said.
Guandolo also defended his theories about Muslims,
“It can’t be debunked with facts, only by name calling,” he said. “That’s what [my critics] do. They try to smear me and smear my organization.”
Yep.

This “Mathias” might as well have been the role model for the evil character of the same name in a thrilling film I enjoyed in the early 70s called The Omega Man with the late great Charlton Heston.
I have come to the conclusion after reading his diatribe, that those in this fight on our side may have overlooked something, that with prepackaging, Nazism is back across the free world posing as essential pillars of probity, doughty fighters against “waycism” and the dreaded “Islamophobia”.

Muslims and ultra liberals can spew all the islamaphobia BS they want. At the end of the day, islamic terror is responsible for almost all terrorist attacks in our world. Any counter-terror expert knows this, and would not be an expert if this threat was not examined very closely. look what happens to non muslims in any muslim country. it can not be denied. The world does not need these supremacists spreading. Islam is dangerous. It’s purpose is to control the world. Islam must be contained and not allowed to spread. Those already in the west must be kept on very short leashes. Immigration from muslim countries must be subject to extreme vetting. Islam must reform and delete its 7th century behavior. This is the 21st century.
