Trump Doubles Down on Promise to Reform Veterans Affairs

President Donald Trump on Thursday doubled down on long-running campaign promises to “take care of” the military community and bring necessary reforms to Veterans Affairs.

“I love them,” Trump told reporters with Fox News, of the country’s veterans. “And we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them and I said we’re going to take care of them. They have not been taken care of properly and it was a big thing.”

One of President Donald Trump’s most notable campaign promises was to provide for better care for military members at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Trump vowed David Shulkin, the newly appointed VA secretary, would do a “fantastic job” and that “the results already have been incredible.”

He added: “The VA has not done so well. But we have the best people in the world. We’re going to take care of them.”

Last month, Trump proposed a six percent funding increase for the VA.

The VA, under Barack Obama, was outed as providing subpar care for veterans — care that in some cases led to deaths and serious medical issues.

It will be necessary to eliminate those entrenched – those who believe they have their jobs for life due to union contracts, etc. These things must be broken for real progress to occur … John McCain should spearhead this, but he is too pro-status quo to do anything meaningful for vets, despite proclamations to the contrary.

McCain is a thinly whitewashed America hating democrat, put him out to pasture. The Republicans need to do a complete house cleaning of the old senile and regressive status quo deadwood that is cluttering up the place.

The voters is Arizona had a clearly better choice in Dr. Kelli Ward, who ran against McCain in the primary. When the general election arrived, my choice was to write in Dr. Ward.

For what he did to veterans, Obuma should be tried on that alone.

President Trump, those are some very fine “words” BUT “actions” speak louder than any words. I still do not trust my government when it comes to my health and the VA. So, I’m on a “wait and see” policy when it comes to the VA. YOU NEED TO RID THE VA OF ALL UNIONS AND (!) HIRE VETERANS ONLY FOR ANY JOBS AT THE VA, MOST IMPORTANTLY THE MANAGERS JOBS! THE BALL IS IN YOUR COURT SIR! DO IT OR SHUT UP!

Bust that Union. Contract with Doctors for extended periods. Our VA here….one whole building they just turned over for the Union to operate out of. 2800 employees to take care of 250 full time patients and some 1500 outpatients a month. Volunteers do most of the work. A travesty.
