Don Rickles RIP: The end of era

Don Rickles would never make it today. He would never be allowed to. He mocked racism, sexism, and bigotry. And he was funny. Humor, another casualty of the totalitarian left.

Hysterical.

The Truth Must be Told

Your contribution supports independent journalism

Please take a moment to consider this. Now, more than ever, people are reading Geller Report for news they won't get anywhere else. But advertising revenues have all but disappeared. Google Adsense is the online advertising monopoly and they have banned us. Social media giants like Facebook and Twitter have blocked and shadow-banned our accounts. But we won't put up a paywall. Because never has the free world needed independent journalism more.

Everyone who reads our reporting knows the Geller Report covers the news the media won't. We cannot do our ground-breaking report without your support. We must continue to report on the global jihad and the left's war on freedom. Our readers’ contributions make that possible.

Geller Report's independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our work is critical in the fight for freedom and because it is your fight, too.

The end of an era indeed. Rickles has left me in stiches so many times. He was a king of comedy. He was to stand up comedy what Frank was to pop music – an absolute legend.

Much as I am honoured, it will take a very skilled philosopher to replace him.

She’s an apt protege for certain, but going in front of an audience might be a bridge too far.

I always loved Rickles’ irreverent humor. I hate this PC world we live in today.

Oh, God rest his dear soul. Rickles was the embodiment of being a New Yorker.

I grew up there and we all made the MOST (by today’s standards) ‘hateful’ jokes. But they weren’t; because we all came in for a ribbing. In NYC you’re cheek-by-jowl, 24/7, with tons of people of every ethnicity: Blacks, Jews, Italians, Poles (only we said ‘Polacks’, and nobody laughed harder than the Polish people) Hispanic, Japanese, you name it. And the unbelievable humor which grew out of that!

It defused the tensions you see. I’m of Italian extraction. And every [hilarious] anti-Italian joke came my way: Your family’s in the Mafia! Your men are short and ugly! All you can cook is spaghetti! And they’d get it right back: ‘Why do Blacks not marry the Spics? They’re afraid their kids will grow up too lazy to steal!’. Only the Blacks would tell you that joke, OK? Or the Hispanics. And everybody cracked up!

Don Rickles turned it into an art form. He will be greatly missed; but I’m sure Heaven is a MUCH funnier place tonight, now that this dear man is there. Thank you Mr. Rickles-God gave you a great gift, and I’m so grateful you shared it with us for so many years.

I can’t think of very many left from that era of Entertainers from the 60’s & 70’s. Oh the good memories of those long ago years! Don Rickles was acerbic, funny, witty, embarrassing, sometimes annoying, but always humorous!
