A little something different tonight for our Friday night open thread.
Artie Shaw’s “Moonglow” was my original choice for this evening’s chill session, but I came across the innocent but sensuous Kim Novak slowly dancing (though more like seducing) a handsome, seen-it-all drifter (William Holden) to “Moonglow” on a hot liquid night in small Kansas town. And I had to share it. The film is Picnic, a 1955 American Technicolor rom-dram adapted for the screen from William Inge’s 1953 Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same name.
Hot stuff.

Your contribution supports independent journalism
Please take a moment to consider this. Now, more than ever, people are reading Geller Report for news they won't get anywhere else. But advertising revenues have all but disappeared. Picnic is at the top of all time movie classics. Great film.
A fine selection with one of the greatest bands from from the swing era. Bill Holden made some very fine pictures.
Check out my Film Noir sub-page located on my Google+ page.
Keep up the fine research & news reporting.
Holden was at his best in “Sunset Boulevard.”

Waits is the face of the second chance hero coming up off the mat to beat the count to connect with a truth maker for a knockout at the end of the 15th.
A true icon. Incredible originality and range; I like a number of “rock” performers (though my fav still is jazz) but he is at the top of the list, mainly because I find him to be so much more. He truly broke the mold. “….And the winner and new Champeen (sic) is…”
My daughter dancing. HaHaHa
Why would a patriotic Indian girl who is Muslim join an elite undercover force to serve her country by hunting down the elusive Islamic terrorists who so cruelly strike at India from their bases in the mosques, madrassas, and government offices buildings of Pakistan?
Find out Friday by watching the premiere of Naam Shabana (The Name is Shabana), a major motion picture directed by Shivam Nair.
A prequel to the 2015 Mission Impossible-style hit action thriller Baby, Naam Shabana tells the story of Shabana Khan joining team Baby. The delicious Tapsee Pannu delivered a scene-stealing performance in this role in her brief appearance in Baby, so we are eagerly awaiting Friday night to find out what she can do when cast as the lead.
Like the earlier film, Naam Shabana is written by Neeraj Pandey. Since he is virtually the only screenwriter in contemporary culture with the courage to deliver a major work of fiction in which the bad guys are the actual bad guys (e.g. Islamic terrorists, with an imam as the mastermind,) that is quite a recommendation.
Naam Shabana (2017)
directed by Shivam Nair
starring Tapsee Pannu, Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpayee, Danny Dengzongpa, and Anupam Kher
country: India
debuts: Friday, March 31st
length: 129 min
language: Hindi. Call ahead to your theatre to confirm that they have a copy with English subtitles, if you need them.
BY FAR, this scene amounts to one of the most sensuous in all-time movies. and which will be hardly surpassed.
The characters do not pronounce a single word. However, their facial expressions, the look in their eyes, the dancing paces and the overall body language says it all.
Picnic Moonglow on an open thread… Chestnuts roasting on an open fire!
IT’s still the only music that matters……………great clip & thanks.
So if I watched it twice is that “perversion”??
For some reason when I re-watched that clip mind wandered to Lullabye of Birdland, so I went to youtube to look for Shearing, and also found an unexpected surprise. Have a look and listen…never in a million years did I expect to find Amy Winehouse here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylYum8RoO1Y. Other standards follow…
