As terrorism fears have mounted and tensions have escalated toward Muslims in the United States in recent years, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan is doing its part to help defuse the rising anxiety. Its exhibition “America to Zanzibar: Muslim Cultures Near and Far” showcases the history, art and traditions of Muslims, with the belief that education will beat back ignorance and hate every time.
“People really want to dig in and get a better understanding from a trusted source about Muslim cultures,” said Andrew S. Ackerman, the museum’s executive director. And the earlier people are exposed to diverse cultures, the better, he said.
“Biases can form by age 6,” noted Lizzy Martin, the show’s curator.

Mr. Ackerman said, “We want young children to be exposed to as much diversity as possible to better understand other people and themselves, and there’s no question that reduces prejudice, violence and misunderstandings.”
The show has been so popular since its opening in February 2016 that its run has been extended another year, and plans are underway to take it on a nationwide tour in 2018.
“I’ve been here 26 years and I can’t remember another exhibit that had a sustained heavy attendance over a period of a year like this one has,” said Mr. Ackerman, noting that more than 350,000 people have visited. “It’s been a surprise blockbuster for us.” He said he knows of only a handful of detractors asking why the museum wasn’t showing Christian cultures instead.
The institution, tucked between brownstones and apartment buildings on the Upper West Side, has allotted the exhibition 3,000 square feet on its ground floor.
More than six years of planning and research went into designing the show and rounding up all the artifacts, artwork, murals and props. The museum consulted hundreds of people, including Muslims from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut; consulates; scholars; and mosque leaders to ensure accuracy and authenticity.
Funding came from the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art and the National Endowment for the Humanities, among others.
Madelene Geswaldo, a teacher at the Manhattan School for Children, brought her second- and third-grade students last fall and used it as a starting point for a broader study of Islam. “We address Muslim culture in a positive way so that kids will not form ideas of having to be scared, or that all Muslims are terrorists or bad people,” Ms. Geswaldo said. The exhibition helped to “humanize” the culture and showcase its contributions to the world, she said.
Plans are underway to find a larger home for the children’s museum, and when it moves, Mr. Ackerman hopes to make the exhibition permanent.

The National Endowment for the Arts made contributions, the Museum in many ways is subsidized by tax payers ; so how can public funds be spent promoting this corrupt religion?

Christians and Jews have been living in Muslim countries for the last 1400 years. Muslim rulers never forced them to convert. They have their own churches and family laws. Now you say that Islam is not a peaceful religion.

That depends on what you mean by conversion. Muslims certainly made it difficult for Christians and Jews to survive, namely be taxing them to the point of starvation and depriving them of basic rights of citizenship. In addition, Muslims have the worst record of violating the basic human rights of non-Muslims residing in Muslim countries. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Islam is, of course, a “Western” religion, sharing deep roots with Judaism and Christianity
Muslims are also a strong presence in “the West”
Islam is the second-largest religion in Canada, Britain, and France, and may well be the second-largest religion in the United States
“Islam in the West” recognizes the entwined heritage of Islam and the West
The West as we know it would not be what it is without the contribution of Muslims and Jews (and others as well)

According to the Holy Quran, all children are born Muslims, it is their parents who make them Jew, Christian or others. Today, many non-Muslims regard Islam as a religion that promotes violence, terrorism and war. Unfortunately, they rely in their view of Islam on the general media, which is not always accurate in reporting the news. Many media outlets, such as TV, radio, newspapers and magazines, are influenced by their investors or owners who have certain agendas and who want to promote certain values and points of view. Other media outlets are simply after the “big story”, in order to make more money and more profits. Others are simply “followers”, who only gather news from other sources, re-package it and try to sell it again purely as a business.
In all these cases, the news reporting is not accurate, but is driven by ulterior motives or simply by profits. Only very few media organizations are committed to providing accurate and true information, regardless of financial gain. Therefore, people today should be very careful in what they take from the media.
Before blindly accepting what the TV, radio or newspaper is reporting, one should think critically about what is being reported. Is this being reported accurately, or is it being exaggerated or even completely fabricated? Who are these people reporting the news, and do they have vested interests to report the story in a certain way, or are they completely objective and fair? Critical thinking is very important in all aspects of life, especially when it comes to accepting the media reports about important and controversial issues.
Islam is in fact a religion that promotes peace and understanding among people of all faiths, and it strongly prohibits all forms of violence and aggression against all people regardless of their faith or race.
Native Brits must learn to respect and tolerate those who are different. The needs and demands of the Muslim community are different from those of natives. Muslims are in Britain not to give up their cultural heritage. They must integrate in their new home country, learn new languages and apply for political representation — without forgetting their cultural heritage. It is important to learn Standard English, but their languages should not be neglected. They need Masajid and grave yards. Muslim children not only need halal meat or Eid Holidays but they need state funded Muslim schools with Muslim teachers as role models during their development period also. There is no place for a non-Muslim child or a teacher in a Muslim school. This is nothing to do with a Islamic Madrassa in Pakistan. The needs and demands of British Muslims are different from Muslims living in Pakistan.
A Muslim is a citizen of this tiny global village. He/she does not want to become notoriously monolingual Brit. The whole world belongs to Muslims. He/she must learn and be well versed in Standard English to follow the National Curriculum and go for higher studies and research to serve humanity. At the same time, he/she must learn and be well versed in Arabic, Urdu and other community languages to keep in touch with their cultural heritage and enjoy the beauty of their literature and poetry. For a Muslim English is an economic language and Arabic is a religious while Urdu and other community languages are their social and emotional languages.

In Islam, I would like to tell that we don’t have any conflicts between science and our religion. On the contrary, many of new science theories proves that our holy book ‘Quran’ must be from Allah, this is because it tells us with science facts that has been discovered only recently. Although Quran is from 14 centuries, it has many signs that earth is spherical, in addition is has signs about the Big Bang theory of the universe creation, in addition it has many science facts about the stages of women pregnancy and how the child is created, and a lot of other things that tell us that the Quran must be from the God

In Islam there is no commandment to kill people by making such allegations against them. The cartoonists had exercised their freedom of expression, and freedom of expression is totally allowed in Islam. Even during the Prophet’s time there were several instances of ridicule, however the Prophet and his Companions neither punished such persons nor asked anyone to do so. On every occasion of this kind, the Prophet’s Companions always tried to positively disseminate the message of Islam. They never tried to punish these people. The killing of those people who had published the cartoons is a gravely un-Islamic act in the name of Islam.

If a man like Mohammad were to assume The rule of modern world, he would succeed in solving its problems and bring peace and happiness to it.. Jihad means struggle. No-one disputes that the literal translation of Jihad is “struggle”. And there are those who believe that its true meaning is “inner spiritual struggle”. But, with the greatest respect, the issue is not how you or Sara Khan choose to interpret the term. The issue is what the mainstream understanding of the term has been throughout Muslim history. Young Muslims tell me that, despite shouting loud and clear that they are patriotic, they still experience anti-Muslim prejudice and are viewed with suspicion, as the enemy within.
In the Middle Ages Catholics were busy slaughtering members of rival Christian sects and non Christians like the Jews and Muslims and all in the name of Jesus and with the promise of going to Heaven if they died fighting the Holy War, There were indeed some social, economic and political factors which help explain this outburst of violence, but historians do not doubt that the primary motive for the wars, and the explanation for the appalling brutality of the Crusaders ( did you know they used to roast and then eat captured Muslim children?) was because of their religious fanaticism and the promise of an instant passport to Paradise.

New York City, I don’t give a tinker’s damn about the snowflakes that occupy this city. Your not allowed to pray if you’re a Christian or Jew but they’re putting in foot baths and making prayer rooms for Muslims at some universities. Why is this ok? You couldn’t have, say – an exhibit of all the world’s principal religions, side by side, each taking the same amount of space, because that just wouldn’t do anything to overcome perceptions. People would say – “Islam doesn’t deserve to be next to Christianity and Judaism”, because, well – terrorism. Instead, it’s gotta be big, and all by itself as if to say “here is something special and wonderful” – the big lie.
