Comey Turns on Trump

No surprise here.

The only way to deal with the war on Trump is to purge all all Obama appointees and prosecute those who broke the law.

Comey Asks Justice Dept. to Reject Trump’s Wiretapping Claim

By Michgael S Schmidt and Michael D. Shear, Ny Times, March 5, 2017:

WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, asked the Justice Department this weekend to publicly reject President Trump’s assertion that President Barack Obama ordered the tapping of Mr. Trump’s phones, senior American officials said on Sunday. Mr. Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is false and must be corrected, they said, but the department has not released any such statement.

Mr. Comey, who made the request on Saturday after Mr. Trump leveled his allegation on Twitter, has been working to get the Justice Department to knock down the claim because it falsely insinuates that the F.B.I. broke the law, the officials said.

A spokesman for the F.B.I. declined to comment. Sarah Isgur Flores, the spokeswoman for the Justice Department, also declined to comment.

Mr. Comey’s request is a remarkable rebuke of a sitting president, putting the nation’s top law enforcement official in the position of questioning Mr. Trump’s truthfulness. The confrontation between the two is the most serious consequence of Mr. Trump’s weekend Twitter outburst, and it underscores the dangers of what the president and his aides have unleashed by accusing the former president of a conspiracy to undermine Mr. Trump’s young administration.

The White House showed no indication that it would back down from Mr. Trump’s claims. On Sunday, the president demanded a congressional inquiry into whether Mr. Obama had abused the power of federal law enforcement agencies before the 2016 presidential election. In a statement from his spokesman, Mr. Trump called “reports” about the wiretapping “very troubling” and said Congress should examine them as part of its investigations into Russia’s meddling in the election.

In addition to being concerned about potential attacks on the bureau’s credibility, senior F.B.I. officials are said to be worried that the notion of a court-approved wiretap will raise the public’s expectations that the federal authorities have significant evidence implicating the Trump campaign in colluding with Russia’s efforts to disrupt the presidential election.

Mr. Comey has not been dealing directly with Attorney General Jeff Sessions on the matter, as Mr. Sessions announced on Thursday that he would recuse himself from any investigation of Russia’s efforts to influence the election. It had been revealed on Wednesday that Mr. Sessions had misled Congress about his meetings with the Russian ambassador during the campaign.

Mr. Comey’s behind-the-scenes maneuvering is certain to invite contrasts to his actions last year, when he spoke publicly about the Hillary Clinton email case and disregarded Justice Department entreaties not to.

It is not clear why Mr. Comey did not issue a statement himself. He is the most senior law enforcement official who was kept on the job as the Obama administration gave way to the Trump administration. And while the Justice Department applies for intelligence-gathering warrants, the F.B.I. keeps its own records and is in a position to know whether Mr. Trump’s claims are true. While intelligence officials do not normally discuss the existence or nonexistence of surveillance warrants, no law prevents Mr. Comey from issuing the statement.

In his demand for a congressional inquiry, the president, through his press secretary, Sean Spicer, issued a statement on Sunday that said, “President Donald J. Trump is requesting that as part of their investigation into Russian activity, the congressional intelligence committees exercise their oversight authority to determine whether executive branch investigative powers were abused in 2016.”

Mr. Spicer, who repeated the entire statement in a series of Twitter posts, added that “neither the White House nor the president will comment further until such oversight is conducted.”

A spokesman for Mr. Obama and his former aides have called the accusation by Mr. Trump completely false, saying that Mr. Obama never ordered any wiretapping of a United States citizen.

“A cardinal rule of the Obama administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice,” Kevin Lewis, Mr. Obama’s spokesman, said in a statement on Saturday.

Mr. Trump’s demand for a congressional investigation appears to be based, at least in part, on unproven claims by Breitbart News and conservative talk radio hosts that secret warrants were issued authorizing the tapping of the phones of Mr. Trump and his aides at Trump Tower in New York.

In a series of Twitter posts on Saturday, the president seemed to be convinced that those claims were true. In one post, Mr. Trump said, “I’d bet a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to Election!”

On Sunday, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the deputy White House press secretary, said the president was determined to find out what had really happened, calling it potentially the “greatest abuse of power” that the country had seen.

“Look, I think he’s going off of information that he’s seen that has led him to believe that this is a very real potential,” Ms. Sanders said on ABC’s “This Week.” “And if it is, this is the greatest overreach and the greatest abuse of power that I think we have ever seen and a huge attack on democracy itself. And the American people have a right to know if this took place.”

The claims about wiretapping appear similar in some ways to the unfounded voter fraud charges that Mr. Trump made during his first days in the Oval Office. Just after Inauguration Day, he reiterated in a series of Twitter posts his belief that millions of voters had cast ballots illegally — claims that also appeared to be based on conspiracy theories from right-wing websites.

As with his demand for a wiretapping inquiry, Mr. Trump called for a “major investigation” into voter fraud, saying on Twitter that “depending on results, we will strengthen up voting procedures!” No investigation has been started.

Senior law enforcement and intelligence officials who worked in the Obama administration have said that there were no secret intelligence warrants regarding Mr. Trump. Asked whether such a warrant existed, James R. Clapper Jr., a former director of national intelligence, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” “Not to my knowledge, no.”

“There was no such wiretap activity mounted against the president-elect at the time, as a candidate or against his campaign,” Mr. Clapper added.

Mr. Trump’s demands for a congressional investigation were initially met with skepticism by lawmakers, including Republicans. Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, said he was “not sure what it is that he is talking about.”

“I’m not sure what the genesis of that statement was,” Mr. Rubio said.

Pressed to elaborate on “Meet the Press,” Mr. Rubio said, “I’m not going to be a part of a witch hunt, but I’m also not going to be a part of a cover-up.”

HAHHAHAHHAHA!! Yeah, sure. 😛

If his office was indeed tapped, and the FBI was involved, then so was Comey. I doubt he is in any position to suggest anything on the case. I still don’t understand why God Emperor Trump didn’t purge Comey along with every other Obama goons.

It’s 3:36 in DC. I can’t believe Trump hasn’t already done it. He’s letting his enemies get away with way too much. Needs to round up a whole bunch of them and have them arrested, charged with various crimes. The list could include Comey, Obama, Clinton, Holder, Lynch, Lerner, Paul Ryan, McCain, Graham, Schumer, Pelosi, Reid, McConnell?, most of the MSM, several judges, etc, etc. Declare in addition to their crimes that they are a threat to national security and will be detained, no bail, until their trial.

Exactly, her lawyers destroyed evidence, the FBI destroyed laptops with evidence on them, people involved under Congressional subpoena didn’t even bother to show up, her interviews weren’t recorded and so much more, not to mention slick willie’s meeting with the frigging attorney general during the investigation. It’s now a national security emergency. The deep state is attempting to destroy the office of the President. If I were Trump, I’d shut down the CIA, FBI, whatever else agencies are opposing him, putting the nation at risk. Here’s how I’d do it:
.
Get the military and/or NG to surround EVERY ONE of their facilities including data centers all at the same time on the same day, worldwide.
.
Send in a man to pull the fire alarm. As each employee comes out, confiscate every electronic device or storage/memory device. Send the employees home, either fired or else on unpaid leave until further notice. Then start searching all those electronic devices.
.
Trump could legally do this by declaring a national security emergency – which it is. May be able to do the same to Congress.
.
What is the deep state:

There’s no question that the Trump admin must go on the offensive. He needs an active DOJ issuing arrest warrants and indictments against Obama and his OFA, Hillary Clinton, Eric Holder, Lois Lerner, George Soros and son, and the leadership of MoveOn.org just to name a few. I’d overwhelm the legal system and MSM using the Cloward/Piven concept in his favor, then the RATS would really have something serious to groan about. Moreover, I’d banish CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times and Washington Post from the white house news room for 60 days just for starters.

On December 30, 2012, about a month after he was elected for his second
term, Obama signed a warrantless-wiretapping bill into law.
http://linkis.com/theblacksphere.net/2/CTLFk
“The FISA bill gives the government clearance to tap into American citizens’ communications with people outside of the U.S. without a warrant, so long as it is done in the name of collecting foreign intelligence.”

That’s how Obama tapped Trump’s phones. Obama’s minions got a group of Clinton-appointed FISA judges to fall for the Russia ruse. And once they got approval, they listened to everything.

I admit, I am suspicious of Trump’s claim that the government tapped his phone. Like, couldn’t they have tapped the Russian ambassador’s phone, and Trump, or one of his transition team just happened to be on the other line? I certainly hope Trump was not totally blowing smoke here- that would damage his already shaky credibility considerably. The American people deserve to get to the bottom of Trump’s claim that his phone was tapped.

Nonetheless, the FBI and the Obamistas’ denials have been less than totally persuasive in my opinion- you have to parse what intel people say very carefully. [In fact, it is even a mark in Trump’s favor that, unlike a former female Secretary of State and her dear hubbie, you don’t have to deconstruct the etymological, contextual implications of every nuanced phrase Trump utters to get his drift- correct or not, he tells you straight out what’s on his mind.]

For example, when someone says Obama didn’t order a wiretapping- of course he didn’t- may a FISA court did? Another way in which Trump could be technically wrong, but still essentially right, is if, say, the CIA “suggested” to their friends in MI6 that it sure would be nice to tap Trump’s phone. No, the US intel agencies can’t legally tap Americans’ phones without a FISA court’s permission, but the Brits can listen in on Americans’ phone conversations without violating British law, and then tell the CIA all about it. Now this is pure speculation on my part that this actually happened, but it’s the kind of thing that makes me question the criticism of Trump’s claim.

JacksonPearson

There was two Obama FISA court requests for the FBI to monitor Trump during 2016. The first was supposedly turned, while the second wasn’t. So either Comey’s a bad liar, or something really stinks. I bet on Comey being a liar before the smell.

Kernighan
Kernighan

No need to speculate. You NEED to listen carefully to Mark Levin’s Fox TV interview. He cites verbatim several news articles from Heat Street, New York Times, McClatchy, Guardian, and Washington Post. In these articles they mention that the US Government, which would normally be DOJ, then run by Lynch, asked for FISA warrant (to eavesdrop) on Trump associates and named Trump. This was in June of 2016. The FISA court refused to issue the warrant, and remanded the matter back to DOJ with statement to narrow the request. The DOJ returned in October of 2016 with a more narrow request centered upon a computer server in Trump Tower. This was deemed to be connected to two different Russian banks.

The first request could be conventional criminal investigation, while the second, involving Russian banks, was likely counter intelligence. FBI engages regularly in both types of investigations.

Various others have made claims that they understand something about this matter, but Levin simply put together what was already extant in these news sources, together with an understanding of the FISA processes.

His eyes look soulful…he keeps throwing his chin up when he speaks as in some kind of defiance…..and he talks out of both sides of his mouth on the issues that upset him the most…..and he looks afraid most of the time…..

Comey needs to go. He can no longer head the FBI because his credibility is now non-existent….

Comey must have something on Trump. Too bad. He should be fired immediately.

Get rid of Comey, don’t know why he kept him in the first place. Prosecute all the traitors, starting at the top.

President Trump often told the parable of The Snake at his rallies. Trump should have paid closer attention, because Comey IS The Snake.

Comey IS the snake in the parable The Snake that Trump often recited at his rallies.

NY Times trash as per usual…more like Pravda every day…I wonder if they have their hand out for subscriptions like the UK Guardian (an equal leftard trash source) has? Asking for subscriptions gives a real clue about the number dropping so I wonder if the penny/cent will drop for them? No chance!! as in both political doctrine rules.

Obama spying isn’t the biggest crime Obama committed. That distinction is for fraudulently asserting that he met the legal qualifications to hold the office of POTUS which incidentally he didn’t.
Like with Spygate Trump doesn’t always parse his words (he is not a Lawyer) but he is usually correct in his assertions including that Obama wasn’t qualified. Not in that case because of his place of birth, but instead because “Natural Born Citizen” as defined and understood by the framers means born of two Citizen parents. Obama’s father was a British subject and not a US Citizen. Trump goaded Obama into releasing his long form birth certificate which documented this fact. ( although the birth certificate is clearly a forgery, thank you Joe Arpaio!) Learn more by reading Vattel’s “The Law of Nations” and in particular section 212. Democrats would interpret the Constitution as need be to achieve their goals, but this isn’t right.
