“The first-ever ‘Defender of Liberty’ award.” How did they come up with that name? It sounds awfully similar to “American Freedom Defense,” doesn’t it?
The recipients are predictable. Jewish Voice for Peace is another neo-kapo leftist anti-Israel group like J Street. According to Discover the Networks:
Founded in 1996, Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) is a national nonprofit organization focused on supporting the Palestinians in the Mideast conflict through targeted sanctions against Israel – designed to punish the Jewish state for its alleged human-rights violations. According to its mission statement, JVP is “inspired by Jewish tradition to work … for peace, social justice, equality, human rights, [and] respect for international law.” Indispensable to the realization of these ideals, says JVP, is the group’s primary objective: “an end to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem.” While claiming to support “security and self-determination for Israelis and Palestinians” alike, JVP aims the vast majority of its criticism at Israel. Impugning also the U.S. for the “critical role” it has played in the Arab-Israeli conflict over the years, JVP calls on America to “stop supporting repressive policies in Israel and elsewhere.”
The other CAIR honoree is the Center for Constitutional Rights. Discover the Networks has this:
Originally named the Law Center for Constitutional Rights, the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) was established in November 1966 for the purpose of advancing the cause of civil rights in Mississippi. Its co-founders were attorneys Morton Stavis, Ben Smith, William Kunstler, and Arthur Kinoy (the latter of whom represented the executed Soviet spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg in the 1950s). All four of these founders were longtime supporters of communist causes and were well known for their pro-Castro politics. By “representing such paramilitary groups as the Baader-Meinhof gang and the Black Liberation Army,” write David Horowitz and Peter Collier in their 1989 book Destructive Generation, the four CCR founders “had attempted to justify terrorist acts and criminal violence by indicting America and its democratic allies as partners in a system of economic oppression and social injustice.”
Jewicidals and pro-terrorist Communists. That’s who Hamas-CAIR thinks are “Defenders of Liberty.” It’s telling.
Here is the press release from Hamas-CAIR:
CAIR to Present ‘Defender of Liberty’ Award to Jewish Voice for Peace, Center for Constitutional Rights at Annual Banquet
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 12/12/16) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today announced that it will present the first-ever “Defender of Liberty” award to Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) at the Washington-based Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization’s 22nd annual banquet December 17 in Arlington, Va.
CAIR designed the new award to be given to organizations that have had “a powerful and positive impact in defense of civil rights and religious freedom.” Representatives of JVP and CCR will receive the awards at CAIR’s banquet on Saturday.
With the theme “Uniting America: Building Bridges, Not Walls,” the evening banquet will also feature Gold Star father and constitutional activist Khizr Khan and his wife Ghazala Khan, Linda Sarsour, executive director of the Arab American Association of New York, and Dalia Mogahed, director of research at the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding in Washington, D.C….
