Yesterday’s man, Mr. “Moderate Islam,” is waging a holy war on …. our ads. Daniel Pipes is trying to get relevant and only renders himself more irrelevant.
Pipes claims our Islamic Jew-hatred ad campaign in Philly was a failure. Based on what measure? Our objective was to educate, and we succeeded beyond our wildest imagination. It ran in every major newspaper here and abroad.
Most good people don’t know that two-thirds of our foreign aid goes to Islamic nations.

Most good people don’t know that Islamic Jew-hatred is in the Quran. It may not be the kumbaya Pipes is looking for, but the truth almost never is.
Most good people don’t about the alliance between Hitler and al-Husseini. Pipes calls it a “one-time, opportunistic consultation” — really? Tell that to the 400,000 Jewish women and children Husseini sent to their deaths at Nazi concentration camps. Tell that to the victims of the Muslim armies in Bosnia that Husseini raised for Hitler.
Mufti al-Husseini lived in Berlin from 1941-1945 on Hitler’s dime and made weekly radio addresses from Berlin to the Axis power nations and the Muslim world.

This and similar appeals using the Quran reoccurred time and time again in the mufti’s broadcast addresses during the war. He organized propaganda services to the Muslims of the world from Berlin. He used Axis radio stations calling Muslims to arms in a holy war against the Allies. He aided the Nazi espionage service. He raised Muslim parachute groups for sabotage in the Middle East. He raised Muslim formations to fight the allies. He helped in the Nazi plan to exterminate nearly 6,000,000 Jews. (source: Mufti of Jerusalem, Maurice Perlman, 1947)
It has now been established that six million Jews in Europe were exterminated in Nazi concentration camps. It has also now been established that the mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al Husseini played an active role in that unprecedented massacre of a people. Records found in Nazi archives And evidence produced at the Nurenberg trial reveal in specific terms that the mufti was a leading henchmen of SS Obersturmbannfuehrer Eichamnn, principal executive officer in the liquidation of European Jewry. It is now established that, but for Haj Amin, the scale of murder might not have been so extenisve, and hundreds of thousands of Jewish lives might have been saved. Pipes declares that Husseini was not the leader of the Muslims. it sounds as if Pipes is getting his talking points from Hamas-CAIR. In fact, Amin al-Husseini, in 1929 named Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, was President of the Supreme Muslim Council. He was behind the Islamic terrorist attacks that raged across the Holy Land between the wars. He took part in the anti-Allied activities in Syria and Lebanon after the outbreak of the war. He took part in the Rashid Ali revolt in Iraq.

Pipes calls Husseini, “British appointee in the Mandate for Palestine.” Ah, such scholarship. For a “historical scholar,” Pipes is short on history and shorter on scholarship. But never on ego.
Just for knowing, I had to substantiate every statement in our ad, using multiple primary sources for each fact.
Pipes claims, “rather than win support for Jews as victims of Muslims, it instead rallied the Philadelphia establishment to support Muslims as victims of Jews.” Who is he kidding? The leftist Philly establishment has been portraying the poor Muslim/Palestinians as victims of big, bad Israel long before our ads ran.
Pipes is small and petty and jealous. Smearing the work of fellow counter-jihadists is his latest career move. Good luck with that, Danny boy.

Failed analysis offered as remedy to “failed ad”

While Pamela Geller lives under armed guard over a live and imminent threat from the Islamic State, Daniel Pipes seizes the opportunity to…defend the freedom of speech and decry the threats against her? No. He chose instead to attack her ad criticizing Islamic anti-Semitism.
“SEPTA ad campaign a spectacular failure,” by Daniel Pipes, Philadelphia Inquirer, May 26, 2015:
Did a controversial, austere, black-and-white advertisement that ran for one month on Philadelphia buses achieve its goal of winning sympathy for Jewish victims of Muslims?
The ad was sponsored by the American Freedom Defense Initiative and placed on buses operated by SEPTA, the regional-and state-run authority. The ad read: “Islamic Jew-Hatred: It’s in the Quran. Two thirds of all U.S. aid goes to Islamic countries. Stop the hate. End all aid to Islamic countries. IslamicJewHatred.com.” A November 1941 photograph ran with the caption, “Adolf Hitler and his staunch ally, the leader of the Muslim world, Haj Amin al-Husseini.” SEPTA received $30,000 to run the 30-by-80-inch ad on 84 buses out of SEPTA’s 1,400 buses during April.
No, the ad failed to achieve its goal, and spectacularly so. Count the ways:
To begin with, the text is factually inaccurate. Husseini was never “leader of the Muslim world.” He was a British appointee in the Mandate for Palestine, where Muslims constituted less than 1 percent of the total world Muslim population.
The term “leader of the Muslim world” is a perfectly reasonable summation of Husseini’s power and influence. Yes, he was appointed Mufti of Jerusalem by the British. After the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the end of the caliphate, by virtue of his position alone as Mufti of the third holiest city in the Muslim world, Husseini had as good a claim as anyone to being the foremost authority in the Muslim world as anyone.
What’s more, the British appointment is not remotely the whole story of the Mufti’s influence. While he lived in Berlin from 1941 to 1945, he made broadcasts from Berlin in Arabic, appealing to the entire Arabic-speaking world to support the Nazis, and raised up a Muslim SS division in Bosnia, where no one seems to have rejected his authority on the basis that he was a British appointment for Jerusalem only.
Even as National Socialist Germany collapsed in defeat and ruin, he didn’t lose his influence. In 1946, the Arab League appointed al-Husseini not just a member, but the chairman, of the Arab Higher Committee. The Arab League was founded in Cairo in 1945 by Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Transjordan (Jordan from 1946) and Yemen (North Yemen, later combined Yemen). Are those countries not the heart of the Muslim world?
The Arab Higher Committee, with Husseini as its chairman, wielded so much influence that it was given the same diplomatic status as the Jewish agency for Palestine in the partition of Israel in 1948. The political committee of the general assembly of the United Nations, without a dissenting vote, decided to invite the Arab Higher Committee to testify before it on the issue of Israel and the Arab Muslims.
Second, Husseini’s meeting with Hitler did not represent a permanent or universal alliance between Muslims and Nazis; it was a one-time, opportunistic consultation between a fugitive Palestinian figure and his patron.
Pipes reveals that there is a bit more going on in this photo than a “one-time, opportunistic consultation” by noting in passing that Hitler was Husseini’s “patron.” (Incidentally, Pipes’ reference to Husseini as a “Palestinian,” however, is anachronistic, as the Muslim Arabs of Palestine were not referred to as “Palestinians” until the Soviets and Arafat invented the “Palestinian” nationality in the 1960s, so as to defuse Israel’s image as a tiny Jewish state arrayed against numerous surrounding huge Arab states: an even smaller people was invented, menaced by the mighty Israeli war machine.)
In any case, “Husseini’s meeting with Hitler did not represent a permanent or universal alliance between Muslims and Nazis,” but the meeting was far more than a “one-time, opportunistic consultation,” either. Husseini was important enough in Berlin to play a role in the Third Reich’s extermination of Jews. SS Hauptsturmfuehrer Dieter Wisliceny, a close collaborator of Adolf Eichmann, testified that “the grand mufti, who had been in Berlin since 1938, played a role in the decision of the German government to exterminate the European Jews the importance of which must not be disregarded. He had repeatedly suggested to the various authorities with whom he had been in contact, above all before Hitler, Ribbentrop and Himmler, the extermination of European Jewry. He considers this as a comfortable solution of the Palestine problem. In his messages broadcast from Berlin, he surpassed us in anti-Jewish attacks. He was one of Eichmann’s best friends and has constantly been cited him to accelerate the extermination measures. I heard say that, accompanied by Eichmann, he has visited incognito the gas chamber in Auschwitz.”
The statement referred to in the affidavit was made by Eichmann in his office in Budapest on June 4, 1944; the confirmation by Wisliceny was given some days later, also in Budapest.
Further, according to testimony at the Nuremberg trials, “the mufti was a bitter arch enemy of the Jews and had always been the protagonist of the idea of their annihilation. This idea the mufti had always advanced in his conversations with Eichmann.”
Eichmann had before all this been in charge of efforts to deport the Jews from Europe. After the Mufti weighed in, the Nazi efforts shifted from deportation to extermination — confirming Wisliceny’s account.
Third, the ad’s demand makes no sense: How does ending $10 billion in U.S. military assistance to Afghanistan “stop the hate” against Jews? How does continuing it encourage “Islamic Jew-hatred”?
As Dr. Pipes well knows, anti-Semitism is rampant in the Islamic world, including in Afghanistan. The ad is calling for U.S. aid to Muslim countries to be contingent upon their efforts to end anti-Semitism — efforts which are non-existent at this point. U.S. aid continues to encourage “Islamic Jew-hatred” (Pipes’ sneer quotes betray his unwarranted skepticism regarding the concept) by doing nothing whatsoever to counter it.
But more important to the ad’s failure was the hostile response it provoked. Rather than win support for Jews as victims of Muslims, it instead rallied the Philadelphia establishment to support Muslims as victims of Jews. A Jewish Exponent headline summed up the reaction: “Contempt for SEPTA Bus Ads Brings Groups Together.” Mayor Nutter convened an outdoor meeting under the city’s famous LOVE sculpture that brought together activists, clergy, journalists, and intellectuals, where he denounced the “misguided and opportunistic political tactics” behind the bus ad….
Pipes goes on in this vein for several paragraphs, detailing the opposition to the ad from various Leftist multiculturalists. It is surprising that he accords such respect to this opposition, since those he invokes — the Philadelphia mayor, Leftist Jewish groups, a Roman Catholic archbishop — have never shown any awareness of the nature and magnitude of the jihad threat or of Islamic anti-Semitism, or any indication that they have any will at all to oppose them, even with the most watered-down and empty of gestures. Nor will he ever win their love except by engaging in empty, toothless gestures of his own. One would think that he would have been tipped off to how clueless and compromised SEPTA is by the fact that it, as he puts it, “sent a long valentine to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)” — but he seems to think this is more our fault than SEPTA’s.
If the first rule of advertising is to make sure to convey your message effectively, this inaccurate, strange, and aggressive bus advertisement must rank as an all-time disaster, damaging the cause it meant to serve while helping those it intended to harm. It’s like a Coke ad that sends customers flocking to Pepsi.
In reality, the ad seems to have very neatly smoked out those who are compromised and unwilling to state unpopular and unwelcome truths from those who are willing to grasp the nettle and stand for the truth no matter what may come from the cowards, trimmers, and collaborators of the world.
But as an alternative, Pipes offers his “militant Islam is the problem, moderate Islam is the solution” mantra, which stands out now as one of the most spectacularly failed analyses in the entire sorry history of the “war on terror”:
How might have the ad been more effectively composed? Simple: by distinguishing between the religion of Islam and the totalitarian ideology of Islamism, as in, “Radical Islam is the problem, moderate Islam is the solution. Non-Muslims and patriotic Muslims must band together to fight ISIS, Boku [sic] Haram, CAIR, and ISNA. Islamist-Watch.org.” The picture might have featured novelist Salman Rushdie talking to television host Bill Maher, a liberal who criticizes radical Islam.
“Moderate Islam is the solution,” eh? Well, here we are almost fourteen years after 9/11, and where is it? There is Zuhdi Jasser, there is Tawfik Hamid, there is Stephen Suleyman Schwartz, there is a handful of others, but what they offer is a non-traditional Islam with no foundation in Islamic theology or history, and no significant backing among Muslims. There is no large-scale movement among moderate Muslims to combat the Islamic State, Boko Haram, and other jihadis, much less CAIR and ISNA. There is no moderate Muslim organization with a large membership or influence among Muslims. I share Pipes’ hope that such an org eventually arises, but how long are we going to keep counting on it when it is so obviously not happening?
It’s a soothing solution for the ignorant and uninformed (such as Mayor Nutter, Catholic archbishops, liberal rabbis, etc.), but it is hardly a viable solution, and it is a manifestly failed analysis. Yes, Dr. Pipes, such an ad would have made everyone feel good. But it would have recruited absolutely no “new cadres for the battle against our common foe, the Islamists,” and would not have sparked the public debate that our ad sparked, that drew attention to numerous important issues, including the war against the freedom of speech, the nature of Islamic anti-Semitism, and more.
Failed analysis is not the solution; it’s the problem. Want proof? Run your ad, Dr. Pipes, and see what will happen: absolutely nothing.

I had thought Daniel Pipes as somewhat balanced and rational.
No more.
He’s another dhimmi, quaking behind his appeasement and denial; as a purported ‘scholar’, he KNOWS that HATE is one of the Pillars of Islam [along with terror] as manifested abundantly in the Koran- and that moderate Islam is a myth and a lie.
IGNORANT Islam is as close to ‘moderate’ as it comes… and most Muslims are indeed NOT moderate but ignorant of what they profess to believe.

Mr. Pipes says nothing about the truthfulness of the main claim of the ad: “Islamic Jew-Hatred: It’s in the Quran.”. He also says nothing about the validity of the Muslim leaders’ assertion: “for anyone to say that we hate Jews or anyone else of faith, doesn’t know what they are talking about.”
The ad’s statement is true. The Muslim leader’s suggestion this is not the case is straight-faced denial. They get away with that because few non-Muslims read the Koran. You can take a closer look at the Koran on my website “Is Islam a threat?” and since I already paved the way for you it will take you only about 10 minutes. Plans for the physical extermination of the Jews are not in “mein kampf”, there only is the plan to deport the Jews to the British mandate Palestine .
El Husseini is vehemently against this plan, and has genocidal plans of his own, importing Jews in this case is not helpful, and he organized numerous pogroms against the Jews in the years ’20 and ’30.
El Husseini is instrumental in the radicalization process of the German nazis in 1941 as is shown in the Nueremberg process declaration of Dieter Wisliceny.
Islam is the oldest form of nazism with its genocidal Jew hatred, it’s fuehrer prinzip.

The Muslims were trained soldiers with the Kaiser sending in officers to train them to be organized soldiers. The Armenian Genocide.
The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem was there to pull together the Muslims to again take over the world.
Hitler knew how to mass kill from how he had seen the Armenian Genocide. Do not forget besides his hatred for the Jews, he was also exterminating Christians, Gypsies in the Balkans. He would have eventually turned on the Germans, Italians if they won WW2. Look at Germany and most of Europe invaded by Muslim refugees via of Italy.
Deep down I feel he even converted to Islam, but did not openly say, although accepting two Islamic names. Many Nazis converted to Islam and moved to Egypt to teach Muslims the cart of terror.

It is when one looks at history, one can always find the dirty stench the Muslims leave.
If one looks at the reasons behind the first world war, from before the Armenian Genocide, Annexing of Serbia/Bosnia, War of the Pigs, Austria-Hungary replace the Turks with their own dominance with I guess Muslims. Turkey wanted to stop the decaying Ottoman Empire and take over the world. Italian War 1912. Russia had ties with Armenia. Kaiser liked the Muslim lifestyle, trained the Turks into fighting force while the Royal Cousins had their role to play.

Time for all to research history and learn, even with the Battle of Derne and the Barbary Coast Pirates. Muslims slave trade that has existed from Muhammad till today. The USA has always taken the blunt for slavery in the USA, and the Muslims supplied the slaves.

Its about truth, it’s about freedom or tyranny. Not feeling satisfied, my looks at Pipes’ website have greatly dwindled. Tately check it out anymore. May be a great islamic scholar, but his allegiance seems to wander. He may be among the subscribers to the Bill of Rights, “but ….” not if it hinders sultan Barry and his beloved islam.
The congress must halt the iran “deal/alliance” and call sultan Barry on his big lies about “defeating” isis! No opposition leads to totalitarianism of the most intolerant variety!

Daniel Pipes, get a clue as to what is taking place, at least read chapters 8 and 9 of the Koran for a start. Some people are reduced to such stupidity that they blame those who “offend the apostle” even as Muslims follow Islam and act to kill those critics of Pam Geller. “Certifiably insane” comes to mind as one description of those who open the doors for those who would kill them while they stifle obvious truths about the pending murder.

The ads are a failure? How does Pipes know? He is judging the efficacy of the ads based on the reaction of leftists leaders. Well, anyone could have predicted in advance how the left would act. Philly, Chicago, San Francisco, New York and all metro areas are all controlled by leftists. These multi-culti fools have a political agenda for the sake of having a political agenda. Their dream of Utopia on earth is what drives them and they never let reality and human nature get in the way of their dream. But how many average Americans were influenced by these ads to take a closer look at what is going on with islam? How many Americans who get their news solely from the MSM saw those ads and were stimulated to give the issue more thought, to look a little more deeply into the subject?
Did Pipes attack the anti-Israel ads when they ran? Or is he reserving his criticism only for those on his own side? I remember watching a youtube video with Caroline Glick and Alan Dershowitz arguing about booing Ehud Olmert, the former Israeli prime minister while he was giving a speech. Now I agree with Caroline Glick on almost everything and I agree with Dershowitz very rarely. But in this instance I came down on Dershowitz’s side. I think it is rude to boo a public speaker and if you disagree with him that strongly just get up and leave. However, if I was in the public eye like these people are I would have kept my mouth shut. I wouldn’t have sided with my opponent over an ally in public. Winning the war against islamic supremacism is the goal. Criticizing your own side only helps the cause of the enemy. So Pipes did with his article exactly what he accused Pamela of doing with the ads, he hurt his own cause. That is if his cause is truly to win the war against islamic supremacism. Maybe he has another goal. Maybe he needs to be on camera more often.
In his Pipes dream about moderate islam defeating radical islam, he conveniently forgets that moderate muslims, all 10 of them, don’t have Mohammad on their side. They have nothing to back up their ideas but wishful thinking. So fill that pipe with opium one more time, smoke away, and keep dreaming, Mr. Pipes.

An Islamic Enlightenment?
There will eventually be an Islamic Enlightenment — but there will not be an Islamic Reformation. The Christian Reformation was a movement to end the abuses of the Roman Catholic Church that, to the reformers way of thinking, was veering far from the original message and example of Jesus. Thus there can be no modern Islamic Reformation because it has already taken place: the Wahhabi movement, the Muslim Brotherhood, Al Qaeda, and ISIS are the Islamic Reformation — the movement to end the abuses of Westernized and democratized Islamic nations in order to return to strict Sharia Law and the original religious (if you can call it that) vision of Muhammad.
Why was there an Enlightenment in Europe but not in the Islamic World? For the same reason there was a Renaissance in the west, but not the east: After flirting with the rediscovery of Ancient Greek culture and philosophy by Avicenna, Averroes and other Muslim thinkers (there were once such), Islam sank back into the mire of intellectual submission to its savage roots, never to be awakened until the defeat of the Ottoman Empire and the subsequent dragging of Islamic countries into the modern world by, war, technology, and the demand for petroleum.
But why was there a successful Enlightenment in the West? I maintain it was a combination of the explosion of information made possible by movable-type printing (c. 1440), leading to the explosion of sects and intellectual ferment that came with the Reformation (c. 1517-1750) — making all heresies possible, leading finally the exhaustion of the many contenders in the European Wars of Religion (c.1525-1650) when it became abundantly clear that faith was neither the guarantor of truth nor of victory. In the the wake of what can only be described as the shame of European Christendom, with the death toll reaching possibly 45 million souls — all in the name of Jesus, meek and mild — European thinkers, artists, writers, philosophers, and other persons of good will took a hard look at the utility of faith as the solution to human distress and turned instead to reason. Many contributed ideas. Locke published his Essay Concerning Human Understanding in 1689 and the movement away from faith and towards reason has continued to this day. Christians and Jews continued to look to their scriptures for guidance on the spiritual and moral order but no longer looked there for scientific truth or advice on creating the social order because all scriptural advice presumed a totally authoritarian social order — an order that had failed catastrophically.
So why will there eventually be an Islamic Enlightenment? Because the Internet is the unstoppable modern analog of movable type. Because Islam will never be monolithic again, and because the Islamic authoritarian social order will fail catastrophically. Mostly it will fail because of its own lies and internal contradictions. If we care about the futures of our children and grandchildren we should do everything we can to avoid moderating the current sectarian wars between Sunni and Shia, ISIS and IRAN, etc., while acting to prevent their encroachment on non-Muslim and not “moderate” but (currently) “American-friendly” Muslim countries. You be the judge as to whether the current battlegrounds, Iraq and Syria — or what parts of them — are American friendly.
Eventually, with the right strategy on our part, Islamic jihad will be bankrupt and exhausted, their national armies defeated, their leaders humiliated, and their countrymen who have been educated in the principles of Western liberal (rights-respecting) democracy will finally be able to bring the Enlightenment to Islam. Unfortunately, those Muslims educated by the Western leftist establishment will return home eager to impose new forms of totalitarianism in place of the old one.
So oddly enough, the battle will be won or lost on the campuses of American and European universities. I know that reason, liberty, individualism, and rights — if heard — will be victorious there as well, because most humans value life over death, and death is all that the haters of life and liberty have to offer. Therefore it is critical that the leftist’s plans to implement thought control in the universities (and major media) be defeated.
I have necessarily left out a great deal in this lightning tour of history and my vision of our future, but I hope it will inspire some thought. Use your Web-searching skill to investigate the people, ideas, and events I have mentioned if they are unfamiliar to you and tell us all what you think. Like many of you, I visit these blog pages and comments regularly.

I once saw Daniel Pipes speak at a synagogue in NY, along with then Sen. Norm Coleman of Minnesota, around 2006. Although Pipes said a number of general things I agreed with politically, one could not help but notice there was a permanent sneer on his face as if he disdained everyone. No, I don’t have a photo or video to show you, but I believe you can still see that in others photos and if you ever see him on television or in person.

The difference between all of the above sets are enough to divide them among themselves, but from’wolves point of view all are prey, and so all are under same threat. Is this threat not enough! to unite against predator? stop counting the reasons (may be a million and a half) that divides and further divides, concentrate on what unites. All the passengers of the ship have same fate, decide to be safe together or sink together?articular race religion or nationality but whole Human Race is going to be wiped out, the planet will be destroyed, it is not individual or national problems. Humans verses De-humanized Human like creatures. Unite against common threat. If will not fight together we will die together. Come under one banner and one BATTLE CRY

Sorry, since I really respect both authors in this post. But Pipes’ message was clear and insightful (I won’t even get into the quibling over petty details): The ad was counter-productive, and that is hardly mere speculation. Look at the consequences flowing from the ad. CAIR is yet again made more powerful.
J-Street has been very effective at misleading well-intended people just because its founder is a marketing type and knows how to lie and deceive very effectively. It doesn’t matter if your message has value, or if the product or service you are hyping is useful. What counts is how well you lure the viewer. In that, Pipes points out the deficiencies in outcome. To unload on him for his perspicacity is very unfair. All of you are working toward the same desired outcome. If you can’t learn from legitimate criticism, if you are determined to battle critics who share your goals but offer lessons on how to improve your actions, then you will never achieve your full potential and will waste a lot of misdirected energy and resources. I’m pleased that Spencer acknowledges one serious issue (“There is no large-scale movement among moderate Muslims… There is no moderate Muslim organization with a large membership or influence among Muslims. I share Pipes’ hope that such an org eventually arises, but how long are we going to keep counting on it when it is so obviously not happening?”) That is EXACTLY the point, which both Geller & Spencer brush by.
If we are to have peace between Islam and the rest of us in the world, we need to be working to mobilize those huge numbers of Muslims who are at best uncommitted and at worst are leaning toward immoderation. Calling them (well-deserved) names while your ads trigger public sympathy & support for them is counter-productive. We need the talents of boobs like the J-Street found whose name I refuse to type. Deception has produced dramatic results for him among people of extremely good will and poor intelligence. After all, that is what marketing is all about: getting people to desire goods, services, or viewpoints which they would never do if they were rational. Why wouldn’t such marketing skills work in other populations such as the Muslim populations who might well be activated for good if we just appealed effectively to them? And why can’t more people adopt the lessons of the salient criticism projected, learn from that insight, and further improve the results of their very serious efforts?
