New York Daily News: Protect Pamela Geller

266

The Daily News has often viciously attacked me and my work. They are hardly more favorable in this piece. But at least they now understand that if they don’t defend the freedom of speech and the people who are exercising it, even those they don’t like, the consequences could be disastrous for everyone.

“Protect Pamela Geller: With ISIS marking a New York firebrand for death, officials must ensure her right to speak freely is not abridged,” New York Daily News, May 6, 2015:

Story continues below advertisement

New York and America must uphold the national commitment to free expression by protecting the safety of Pamela Geller in the face of a death threat by ISIS.

Whether you view Geller as a courageous truth-teller or as a rashly provocative anti-Islamist, what she says and why she says it makes no difference when ISIS declares that “we will send all our Lions to achieve her slaughter.”

There is no doubt that ISIS has the power to inspire followers to targeted violence. On Sunday night, two armed adherents opened fire outside a Geller-sponsored event in Texas and were killed by a local police.

Geller’s program there included a widely publicized contest centered on cartoons drawn of the Prophet Muhammad. As it approached, one of the gunmen, an Islamist convert with a history of radicalism, exchanged calls for violence with ISIS fighters.

Afterwards, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack. On Tuesday, the group posted an online message, singling out Geller and announcing, “Everyone who houses her events, gives her a platform to spill her filth are legitimate targets.”

The message also spoke of having “71 trained soldiers in 15 different states ready at our word to attack any target we desire,” a boast not to be dismissed at a time when the FBI is conducting anti-terror investigations in all 50 states and agents confront the demands of monitoring hundreds of potential ISIS sympathizers.

Geller is a New Yorker. Until now, she was perhaps best known for sponsoring subway advertising with slogans like, “Islamic Jew-Hatred: It’s in the Quran.”

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority last month banned all political and religious ads from the transit system after a federal judge ruled that a Geller poster quoting a Hamas terrorist saying “Killing Jews is Worship that Draws us close to Allah” was not incendiary enough to likely spark violence.

The Daily News Editorial Board criticized the move because it meant the MTA was also banishing important speech — such as election campaign messages and invitations to join mass demonstrations — from the city’s great public meetinghouse.

While affirming Geller’s right to run a draw Muhammad contest, we called her irresponsible for staging the show simply to prove that radical Islamists will use violence to squelch expression — a fact of life and death that has been known for far too long.

In 2005, a Danish cartoonist published images of Muhammad that sparked violence in the Middle East and the attempted assassination of the cartoonist. In January of this year, gunmen in Paris massacred the staff of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical magazine whose frequent skewering of religions included depictions of Muhammad.

Geller’s cartoon contest differed from their presentations in that her only message was that evil and demented Islamists violently attack speech deemed offensive — and ISIS responded true to form. As Geller said, “This threat illustrates the savagery and barbarism of the Islamic State.”

She went to war with words and pictures, they’ve gone to war with knives and bullets, and t he NYPD is dutifully launching a security assessment. It must, because free expression must prevail.

The Daily News will be next! You can’t escape the s**t storm that’s coming and they know it…. at last!

By the time they are dragging ordinary people out onto the streets and beheading them by the 1,000 the press will be long dead in their mass graves.

Their epitaph will be.. “they were paid so much, but said so little.”

Even the atheist views are built on Christianity, just they don’t need a God to confirm them. Unfortunately not everybody is able to take on this view, this burden of doing what’s right just because it’s right. What can you do? I didn’t invent the world.

Islam is anti atheism, it’s not only very religious, it’s morally wrong as well!

Think of Darwin.

By natural selection of religions, we have come to this, what we have today.
Any religion that’s not islam would have been killed off years ago, but by natural selection we have ended up with the most dangerous ideology ever, facing the free world. It couldn’t be any different. Can’t you see this? If islam was different it would have gone the way of socialism. ie DEAD.

It’s the perfect anti civilisation, not by design, but because it couldn’t be any different from what it is, or it would have failed.

Who wins? Freedom, non violence and equality? or Death and submission.

If nothing else it’s an exciting time to be alive!

The principle in this situation could be: How to REACT to Muslim killers, the bullies? In order to save lives in the long run? You seem to think that more lives will be saved when we
Only respect them, or leave them alone.

We think that it is in the character of bullies to notice when intimidation works, in this case; no more ridiculing of Islam, while there continues to be ridicule for all other religions, so an unfair advantage for Islam,

and then ….. the bullies intimidate some more! So we think that standing up to bullies, making them see “intimidation does NOT pay” saves more lives in the long run.

It is complicated. We have our own meaningful democratic ideology. In it we like all religions and lifestyles being in a fair competition. In venues that can be avoided if people want to avoid.

In those venues we do not just want “respect” support, praise or silence in response to religions, lifestyles, we also want verbal non-violent “denigration, provocation, hatespeech even”. Because denigrating, hating the bad can be good, can cause improvement, otherwise not possible.

And it seems best to us allow all hurting the feelings of all. And none hurting the bodies of anyBODY.

Pamela may give a lot of verbal non-violent offense, she takes it too, even more than she gives. That’s fair!

You yourself just now were also hurting feelings, denigrating her, some of us, christians. Were you so respectful to the Clintons? Were you not childish provoking them? If not, why not? Did you have a good reason maybe? Well, we tell you Pamela had good reason too.

Your whole protest sounds so unnecessary, hypocritical. Except the part of saving lives, but we aim to on aggregate save more lives.

I dont think, when it comes to terrorists trying to take away or constitutional rights, their are any “bystanders” in the fight. Even you could join the fight by showing thugs that you will not be “terrorized”, you will not give up your rights so they can feel more secure in their murderous ways.

I can understand when some people say its not worth it to purposely insult their prophet and could almost agree if it were just that but its not. They have already intimidated the MSM into downplaying the plight of Christians everywhere, they’ve prevented people from speaking at college campuses, prevented some business from offering certain products, even our tv shows and movies have been effected, when will it stop if we dont stand up for our rights.

I totally respect what you do – you’re revolutionary in your own right. But I saw this as an act of reclamation, of a longstanding Western tradition, to freely express criticism through satirical cartoons.

In interview she stated she was not surprised there was a violent reaction and she catered for that potential by spending large on protection. She was more surprised by the reaction of the media who, like yourself, condemned her event.

Whilst I agree there are consequences for free speech are you seriously suggesting we have to all go into hiding to exercise that right when we know there are those who will violently oppose us?

For arguments sake let’s say I was a bloke and I did have a wife, whom you called a whore. I’d probably be a bit shocked if it came out of the blue and I knew for a fact that she wasn’t one.

However, if my wife was making truth claims about how other people should live, sleeping with numerous sexual partners (of dubious age) and threatening cruel punishments and death, for non-compliance then I’d probably agree she was a whore and punch her in the head!

No, much more complex. We also know how that works out. All other religions/ lifestyles/ groups can be counted on not to have followers that react violently to verbal or pictorial provocation. Only Islam has.

The result; in the world all the other religions get “denigrated, ridiculed, scrutinized” but Islam we tell you because of these violent followers gets much less “denigrated, ridiculed, scrutinized”

The real point is: Do you or do you not think Islam get’s an unfair advantage? Does Islamic intimidation work or not?

If so, Pamela has very good cause to this particular “sacred aspect of a culture”. And she never attacks anything sacred just for the sake of attacking or earning money or just out of hate.

You have all these desires and expectations of Pamela, us, democratic citizens, your fellow humans. 1. Save lives, prevent violence. Commendable; Logical!!!

But … believe it or not, but we firmly believe Pamela Geller’s stand in the long run SAVES more lives than it might cost in the long run. We can tell you why if you let us.

But now 2. You want us to show respect and not give insults and provocation and not antagonize??? And with this you aim to spare lives or feelings? We tell you with our strategy we on aggregate save lives.

But yes, with Pamela strategy feelings are NOT SPARED, true!

But why should we? You are not sparing our feelings, Muslims are not sparing our feelings. We say, let all hurt feelings of all, now and then, no problem. We draw the line at violence, hurting bodies.

Maybe you are too sensitive. Hurting feelings is done and experienced by all and can’t be and should not be stopped.

You only see the disadvantages, we see good reasons behind what she is doing. Maybe it’s hard to explain.

Some of us have our own Democratic Ideology and do a lot to protect that too. A person like you might call that crazy, but you could consider to reckon with our reaction as you reckon with the existence of terrorists. Call both groups crazy if you must, but both exist.

People like us respond in this way when a group of 12 cartoonists is murdered and media provenly get intimidated and give Islam and Muslims an unfair advantage.

You talk to Pamela and us as if you have elevated expectations of us. We see you not talking to Muslims, extremists or moderates (who also do have some responsiblity), like that, as if you have lowered expectations of them.

It may seem nice for us that you have higher expectations of us than of Muslims, but it does mean that you measure with double standards.

Her behavior is irresponsible and childish.

And killing people for cartoons isn’t? Her right to express herself is equal to your right to stand on the street. But nobody would defend my right to rob you because I said you were “baiting” me with your presence.

Debaters like you are pointless. It’s like someone coming in here and saying black is white. They offer nothing but an obvious untruth and try to pass it off as truth. The provocators are the muslims with their absurd demand that we not draw a picture of a man nobody has ever seen or who can describe. It’s a delusional request that could not be complied with even if we wished. Do you understand that? it’s insane. Nuts. Retarded. It’s a manufactured reason for muslims to be violent against the infidel. They are as bad as nazis, these muslims, full of hate for others not like them. We need to expel them all and bulldoze those filthy mosques. Any questions, clown in a hat?

So, the author of the Satanic Verses spent decades under death threats. Under your logic, the answer is not to write books that criticize Islam. Theo Van Gogh was murdered on a public street for film criticizing Islam. So, under your logic making a film criticizing Islam was irresponsible. A blogger in Saudi Arabia will get 1,000 lashes for the crime of criticizing Islam.

So Matt, please tell us all what books, films, blogs, etc., are we supposed to refrain from now?

This is as shameful as the kowtowing that Hollywood engaged in during in the years prior to WWII to keep on the good side of the Nazis to avoid their films being banned from the profitable German market.

As soon as we start accepting the premise that ONE RELIGION on the planet is above all forms of criticism, then we might as well call it quits. Seriously, we have a religion that sends out hit squads.

What you don’t seem to understand is that Muslims consider any criticism of their violent religion or their evil “prophet,” by anyone, anywhere on earth, to be absolutely forbidden, regardless of how factually correct it is.

They’ve got a nice little game going, don’t they? They react with murderous violence to any little “insult” to their wretched belief system — and then fools and knaves like you put all the blame on the “irresponsible” people who have merely subjected Islam to the same kind of scrutiny that every other religious gets all the time.

So if I draw a cartoon of a bearded man wearing a turban and say it isn’t muhammad I’m okay. But if I draw the same and say it is muhammad I’m worthy of a bullet in the head?

So muslims are upset and want to kill us for depicting a man nobody has ever seen or can describe. It’s a groundless, meaningless, illusory phantasm with no basis in reality, poses not threat to anyone even if everyone attempted it, and is totally unenforceable even if it mattered.

The world is bending over backward to please these demented freaks. We need to stop compromising our greatest principles for people that normal society would typically deem insane.

I haven’t heard anyone in the media call Pamela Geller a hero. Through her ingenious use of offensive free speech (the only kind that needs protection) she smoked out two known Jihadists that were laying low on home soil. She blew their cover and got them executed before they could do any real damage, potentially saving the lives of thousands of Americans. She expanded the conversation about Jihad on media outlets around the world. Do people seriously think that if this art contest hadn’t of happened, that these Jihadists would just remain docile? No, they are laying in wait among us, storing up weapons, training, converting and preparing to do great damage to our country. Because of Geller, these two bozos bit the dust and the only damage they got away with was shooting a policeman in the ankle. With all the might of Allah behind them, these savages were no match for a woman and a Texas security God. Do you think that Geller suddenly “went too far” and only now has a bounty on her beautiful head? She gave up that aspect of her freedom long ago when she decided to fight for what freedoms we may have left. Pamela Geller is a hero, a modern day Paul Revere.

He made a lot of mistakes and had major errors in jugement as President but that attack isn’t one of them.

What is wrong with you liberal granola bar eaters?? Bush is gone and has been for 7yrs, it’is now Obama’s #1 responsibility to protect Americans ,and he has done a lousy job of it partly due to people like you defending him.

Maybe we should ask the Americans left in Yemen or killed in Benghazi, Fort Hood or Oklahoma and see how safe they feel.

Pamela Geller just has the balls and the courage to stand up to radical Islamists and do what what most of the rest of us are afraid to do, or can’t afford to do. That is why she is a hero. And that is that.

Actually, most of us haven’t had the opportunity to do so. Yet.
I have a hunch we will all get our chance.

That said, Pamela is definitely a heroine.
She is magnificent, and I admire her courage and effectiveness a great deal.

She can say what she wants, but I don’t want my tax dollars paying for special protection of this foul-mouthed shrill.

I guess we never have to worry about the government spending extra money to protect gutless dhimmi stooges who would prostrate themselves so fast they would injure their knees the instant anyone threatened their liberty, which by the way, was won by those who actually possess courage, and are not gutless limp dick cowards.

To continue Drudge’s argument that it would be needlessly provocative to call your daughter a whore in front of you, if you are a radical Muslim your response might be to attack the daughter when you get home rather than the the provoker.

Sorry to see Drudge join with the islamic supremacists. Will he now praise sultan Barry for his never-ending “protection of iran and islam?”

Sultan Barry should protect Pam, the Constitution, the USA and what is left of the free world. But he is too busy dissolving the constitution and subverting the free world. Remember not long ago he said he would “destroy isis?” Knew it was a lie then, and it remains a lie — but our inert collaborators in congress are happy with the coming caliphate!

Whether or not Pam is a hero is not the key issue. Everyone must decide: do I support the Constitution and the USA, or do I side with the totalitarian barbarian ragheads?

The on going attacks against Pamela clearly shows that the vast majority of people are ignorant of the potential threat Jihadists are to our country. Pam has been speaking about this for years and it still hasn’t sunk in. Hopefully this incident would arouse people from all over and begin looking at the ideology of Jihadist. As it stands right now, Pam and Robert are heros.

Andres Serrano’s 1987 photograph, “Piss Christ,” is included in this twenty-five year retrospective because it is part of the artist’s enduring body of work. The fact that this work continues to draw controversy on both sides of the political, social and religious aisles unfortunately overshadows the artist’s intention, which is to engage the viewer on both a visual and intellectual level. In these times of heated religious fervor it is important to remember that freedom of expression remains dear to any democracy.
US tax dollars FUNDED this but did not fund the cartoons.

If you burn a Bible – silence. But if you burn a Koran, the Obama administration will send private letters of apology – and public condemnations
If you are in Gitmo, expect the Koran to be handled with white gloves.
The crown of thorns was a mockery. Now we must question why…….there is a deeper meaning….love your enemies, this stuff does not matter.

Geller has to put her life on the line to wake up Leftist apologists for Islam to the danger that faces all of us, those dopes included? And still, most of them cling to their ridiculous cognitive biases.
Allah help us!
