LATEST: PREMIER Daniel Andrews says security will be stepped up across Victoria after police claim to have foiled an Anzac Day terror attack in Melbourne by Islamic State-inspired teens.

Police say they have prevented a possible attack on serving police officers involving “associates’’ of the dead Melbourne terrorist Numan Haider.

The Australian Federal Police counterterrorism chief Neil Gaughan confirmed details of the terror plot today following raids across Melbourne.

Two teenagers were arrested in relation to allegations they were “planning a terrorist attack in Australia.”

“It is alleged both men were undertaking preparations for a terrorist attack at an Anzac Day event in Melbourne targeting police officers,’’ Mr Gaughan said.

Five teenagers were arrested in Australia on Saturday with two of them facing terrorism charges, including planning an alleged attack targeting police officers.

Seven search warrants were executed in Melbourne by a joint counter-terrorism team, two months after Prime Minister Tony Abbott warned the threat from home-grown extremists was worsening.

Police said two 18-year-old men were held over terrorism-related offences.

“It is alleged the men were undertaking preparations for planning a terrorist act in Australia, which included targeting police officers,” Victoria state police said in a statement.

A third man, also 18, was arrested on weapons charges with two other teenagers, aged 18 and 19, in custody and assisting with enquiries.

Police said searches were continuing at several addresses in the southeast of the city, with investigations ongoing.

Australia raised its threat level to high last September and has since carried out a series of counter-terrorism raids, with alarm fuelled by the departure of at least 110 of its nationals to Iraq and Syria to fight with the Islamic State group.

More than 30 have returned to Australia.

A string of incidents, including a December siege in a Sydney cafe by a self-styled cleric who attempted to link his actions to Islamic State, have raised awareness about radicalisation among Muslims in Australia.

In February, two men were charged after police thwarted an “imminent” attack in Sydney, seizing an Islamic State flag, a machete and an Arabic-language video detailing the alleged plot.

The same month Abbott, in a national security address, warned of a long-term era of heightened threats from “home-grown” extremists as he announced fresh measures to combat the issue including revoking citizenship for dual-nationals linked to terrorism.

1) Pin the Turks down in their trenches with suppressing fire.
2) Lob in some grenades. (Let them cook off for 5 seconds before tossing.)
3) Dump pig-shit fertilizer in their evac boats.

At least one of the teenagers who have been released will get a summons to appear at court. The ring leaders remain in the jail.
However, I think that the authorities have it wrong about one of the three who were released.
It most definitely has something to do with Islam.

What a disgrace! The Australian PM, Tony Abbot, and the Victorian police refuse to acknowledge this has anything to do with culture or religion. They are taking the same line as Obama, referring to these Jihadi’s as simply being inspired by “ISIL”. Well what is “ISIL” inspired by? If not Islam, Mohammed and the Koran then what? More Chamberlainesque appeasement!

What’s even more ridiculous is the PM’s appeal to potential jihadi’s to not join ISIS because it might lead to the death of themselves or others??? Duh! That’s the whole basis of the appeal – martyrdom and glory! Sadly I am shocked at my government’s abject failure to confront the reality of the threat political Islam poses to Western Civilization. I thought we had a fighting chance here but it appears we are to go the way of Europe and the US – it just doesn’t seem to matter what brand of politics is in power – none are able to comprehend early and combat what is truly a clash of civilizations.

If 9/11 wasn’t enough and all the subsequent terror then what will it take?

Does the name Al Furqan mean anything? It should mean something to people who read news reports carefully.
Of the 5 who were apprehended, 2 have been arrested and charged with offences. They are being held long term in the jail per our terrorism legislation. One of them has already faced the magistrates court and will do so again on the 24th April.
At first it was said that they were not taking orders from IS. However, that information has changed. I expect information to change again as we hear more about the plot.
The police found weapons such as knives and swords. There had been surveillance of several police stations.
So why did I mention Al Furqan. It is because some of the 5 had been an associate of Numan Haider, the youth who had stabbed 2 police and who was killed by those same police officers. Al Furqan is a “bookstore”/mosque in Springvale. Its head is one of the hate preachers. In other words the speakers at this information centre in Springvale make extremist claims that we westerners or Christians to them are killing Muslims… apparently they are not aware that Muslims are killing Muslims.
However, that is not the thing that has piqued my interest. It is the name Al Furqan because I have recently discovered that Al Furqan is the name of the media arm of IS. This would explain the radicalization of the youth in the region surrounding Springvale.
I did hear today that at least one of the youths had been in touch with a senior Australian IS person in Syria. This is further evidence as to who was involved in the plot to kill Victorian police on ANZAC day.
