We have learned that the New Israel Fund will host an event in NYC on Friday, March 6 from 8:45am-10am at their NYC office, located at 330 Seventh Ave., 11th floor (at 29th St.). We urge anyone opposed to BDS to attend the event and let them know how you feel about American Jews who support boycotts against Israel.
The NIF, which opposes and harms Israel on a daily basis is good at playing the victims, and in the invite claim that this a “time of attack on the New Israel Fund.” The harsh reality is that the New Israel Fund attacks Israel on a daily basis – those of us who speak out and tell the truth.
Take the NIF’s Talia Sasson. For an idea of the lies this extremist will tell, one can look at the interview she conducted on February 9, 2015, with a leading Israeli media outlet, the Mako website. Talia Sasson is the organization’s next President.
In the interview, Sasson answered questions concerning the NIF and the organizations it supports, and addressed controversial issues. While she claims that “Those who support BDS against Israel – we have decided not to support them,” and that she “has not heard” that the NIF supports organizations that boycott products from the settlements: “I haven’t heard about that. Bring me evidence and facts… Who made a boycott? You are creating a reality that doesn’t exist.”
The reality is that the New Israel Fund DOES support BDS. Her answers, however, are not in line with facts. As can be read on NIF’s own website, the group clearly supports BDS. Even though the NIF states that it “will not fund global BDS activities against Israel,” a paragraph later it apologizes for exactly those activities, stating “NIF will thus not exclude support for organizations that discourage the purchase of goods or use of services from settlements.”
Scarlett Johansson, the sexiest woman alive, was commended throughout the pro-Israel world for walking away from Oxfam due to its involvement with the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement – yet, The New Israel Fund and their supporters support BDS.
NIF organizations have led BDS activities and initiatives. These activities began when Coalition of Women for Peace, which was funded by the NIF, established the “Who Profits from the Occupation?” project, with the aim of promoting divestment from Israeli companies. The coalition’s website has a database of all the companies that had investments or involvement in projects located over the Green Line or in Israeli security companies. The site promotes divestment by international companies and foreign countries from Israeli or international companies “involved directly in the Occupation.”
Who Profits’ activities include the dispatching of a letter to the Norwegian government in 2009, demanding the divestment from Elbit Systems, due to that company’s involvement in the construction of the separation fence. The signatories to that letter include additional NIF-funded organizations: Machsom Watch, Mossawa and Social Television-Syncopa – organizations that the NIF continues to finance to this day.
These activities continued, both as part of the general boycott and in the framework of the boycott of products from the settlements.
The NIF supports Solidarity Sheikh Jarrah, also known as Defence of Democracy Fund, initiated a petition in 2010, calling for the boycott of and divestment from companies the “profit from the Occupation”: “We are calling upon the public to join the Palestinian boycott of settlement products; to boycott Israeli companies that operate in occupied Palestinian land and in East Jerusalem and profit from the Israeli occupation, to divest of these companies, and to abstain from business transactions with them and from the purchase of their products…” This petition was published on the Social Television Website, another organization funded by the NIF.
Senior officials in NIF organizations recently (February 2015) signed a petition calling on European countries to boycott products from the settlements, to restrict the entry of settlers and to restrict academic cooperation:
“We call on you to:
– Not only label settlement products produced in violation of international law, but as we do ourselves, to also boycott them.
– To restrict the entry of violent settlers to EU countries, with priority and attention on Israeli politicians living in settlements in violation of international law, and inciting the public to violence and racism.
– To condition any economic and academic cooperation with Israel with adherence to international law.
– To instruct European companies to respect international law, and to take legal measures against European companies operating in violation of international law in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.
It is simple – The New Israel Fund – and their supporters oppose Israel. Refute New Israel Fund – and their supporters including Alisa Doctoroff of UJA-Federation – at the public event in NYC this week.
