US representatives criticize PM Erdoğan’s ‘anti-semitic’ statements in letter to President Gül Hurriyet Daily News

Forty-six U.S. lawmakers have sent a letter to Turkish President Abdullah Gul slamming Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for
making anti-Semitic statements and calling on Gul to "publically
condemn the use of anti-Semitic rhetoric by government officials."
The bipartisan letter was
prepared by Reps. Brad Schneider, Randy Weber, Lois Frankel, and Mark
Meadows and cited numerous statements made by Erdogan in recent months.
The signatories specifically singled out Erdogan's description of
Zionism as a "crime against humanity." More recent statements, including
the prime minister's repeated statements that an "interest rate lobby"
was behind political unrest inside Turkey, also came in for criticism.
The letter described the rhetoric as "a thinly veiled reference to
Jews." Turkish diplomats were recently forced to scramble after past anti-Semitic statements by
Erdogan reemerged, generating renewed speculation that his diplomatic
conflicts with Israel were grounded in something other than the
promotion of objective Turkish national interests. (The Israel Project)

Forty-six U.S. representatives have written a letter to Turkish
President Abdullah Gül criticizing some of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip
Erdoğan’s statements which they described as “anti-semitic,” daily
Hürriyet reported.

The letter requested Gül to publically condemn “the anti-semitic rhetoric” of government officials.

The
signatories noted that another letter had been written a few months ago
asking Erdoğan to retract his statements that compared Zionism to a
“crime against humanity,” without success.

They also argued that
Erdoğan’s accusations of an “interest rate lobby” engineering the Gezi
protests were implicitly targeting Jews, recalling that Deputy Prime
Minister Beşir Atalay had openly stated that a “Jewish diaspora” was
behind the recent unrest in Turkey.

The letter was prepared on
the initiative of Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Illinois), Rep. Randy Weber
(R-Texas), Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Florida) and Mark Meadows (R-North
Carolina) and signed by congressmen from both the Democrat and
Republican parties, the report said.

Good to see some character and backbone from some of our legislators while our chief executive is spineless and perfidious.

Patricia, I think I understand your reaction, and am not unsympathetic to it. However, allow me to submit this for your consideration.
I’d rather have a forthright Jew-hating leader in Ankara- and many other countries- than smooth, polished figure. With Ahmadinejad, at least you knew where he stood. And you could determine who your friends and enemies where based on their reaction to such a slimeball.
Erdagon’s slip is showing a bit (as it has a fair amount in recent years). He quite cleverly kept his Islamacist agenda muted, at least from Western audiences, for years. I’m actually glad to see him make his sentiments clear.
This letter from well-meaning American politicians is, I think, in some ways counterproductive. Let the bastards show their stripes!

But I thought Erdagon and Bibi “kissed and made up recently”thanks to that well-known “peacemaker” Hussain Obama.

It saddens me that in America we don’t have an organization like the EDL.
It’s great we have you Pamela, but we need a way to educate the public.
I think it’s more out of ignorance that folks here don’t care about , or know much
about radical islam.
How to get the people educated is a noble goal.
The question is “how”?

Eliminate all monetary aid to Turkey and all other countries who continue to pursue rabid dog speech and policy. It’s time to reward only those who merit aid, not mad terrorist dogs.
