Exclusive: Pamela Geller sounds off on Obama 'exploiting deaths of children'

Obama’s selective sympathy concerning the
Newtown massacre is political exploitation at its most cynical and
debased. Where were Obama’s concern, his empathy and his calls for a
thorough investigation of the Fort Hood and Benghazi massacres?

Obama’s knee-jerk opportunism, trying to exploit
the horrible deaths of these children to pursue his political ends
(harmful gun-control legislation), is in sharp contrast to his response
to the Fort Hood mass murder. When Maj. Nidal Hasan murdered 13
Americans in the name of jihad, Obama attempted to silence concerns
about jihad, declaring that no one should “rush to judgment” – despite
the fact that Hasan was wearing the garb of the shaheed the morning of
his jihad, was giving out Qurans that same morning and was screaming
“Allahu akbar!” while mowing down Americans.

And now he is trying to destroy the Second
Amendment. This is the poison fruit of the left’s decades-long war on
American values and morality. The problem is not guns. The problem is
our societal glorification of violence and death. We need to recover
love of life and respect for human beings in the society, and teach such
things in schools.

Our societal nihilism is what leads to these attacks.

American children are fed a daily diet of
violence from early childhood on. A nonstop feed of gratuitous, mindless
violence on television, in movies, on the Internet and particularly
video games dehumanizes and desensitizes. How many open-chest cavities
do we need to see on “CSI” or “Law and Order”? When I was a kid, “The Twilight Zone”
and Alfred Hitchcock could scare the living daylights out of you
without so much as a knife or gun drawn. Add to that the porn culture,
the lack of morality and virtue …

That lurid and amoral violence of Hollywood and
the music industry, the breakdown of the family and a reckless
abandonment of the mentally ill – all have contributed to this
horrifying phenomenon of mass shootings. In the recent past, the
mentally ill were institutionalized. But in the late 20th century,
psychiatric hospitals got a very bad name; the left decided that the
mental institutions were wrong and cruel. Institutionalizing someone
became the bogeyman. The hospitals were closed, and we basically tossed
our mentally ill onto the street. We medicated them and then threw them
to the wolves. Now we’re raising a generation of mentally ill children,
with limited mental health resources and a system with hands tied until after the tragedy happens.

Outlawing guns will not deter criminals, who
will not hesitate to obtain illegal guns. It will just render the
populace utterly defenseless.

In the U.K., where there is no right to bear arms, gun crime has gone up 89 percent in the last 10 years.
Gun-control laws haven’t stopped that. The only way to stop a man with a
gun is with a gun. It is little reported in the enemedia that the
Clackamas mall shooter faced a shopper with a concealed weapon who cut
his spree short. The Clackamas Town Center, two weeks before Christmas,
was teeming with humanity, but the shooter managed to kill only two
people. Concealed weapons save lives. John Lott reminds us, “Similar
stories are available from across the country. They include shootings at
schools that were stopped before police arrived in such places as
Pearl, Miss., and Edinboro, Pa., and at colleges like the Appalachian
Law School in Virginia. Or attacks in busy downtowns such as Memphis; at
a mall in Salt Lake City, or at an apartment building in Oklahoma.”

The NRA‘s Wayne LaPierre said Friday: The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Would you rather have your 911 call bring a good guy with a gun from a mile away … or a minute away?
… The National Rifle Association knows that there are millions of
qualified active and retired police; active, reserve and retired
military…We can deploy them to protect our kids now.“

Those who recoil at the prospect of armed
guards in schools, and who think banning all guns will solve the
problem, should remember that on the same day as the Newtown massacre, a knife-wielding madman slashed 22 kids at an elementary school in China. I guess we’ll have to ban all knives, too.

Also, anti-gun hysteria is ignoring key distinctions. After the theatre shootings in Colorado last summer, Obama said: “AK-47s
belong in the hands of soldiers, not on the streets of our cities.”
However, the killer didn’t use an AK-47; he used an M&P 15. Lott noted:
“The call has frequently been made that there is ‘no reason’ for such
‘military-style weapons’ to be available to civilians. Yes, the M&P
15 and the AK-47 are ‘military-style weapons.’ But the key word is
‘style’ – they are similar to military guns in their aesthetics, not in
the way they actually operate.”

Gun-control laws simply don’t work. In Obama’s hometown of Chicago, the murder rate is skyrocketing,
despite some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country.
Everywhere guns have been banned, murder rates have gone up – whether
it’s Chicago, D.C., England, Jamaica or Ireland.

What can we do? We need laws that require
treatment and supervision of the dangerously mentally ill, so that
violent and unstable people aren’t roaming around unsupervised as they
are. We need to repeal sections of the Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act that – as unbelievable as it sounds –
actually prevent doctors from telling parents of mentally ill children
the truth about their condition. We need to make sure that hospitals
aren’t releasing mentally ill patients solely for reasons of expense.

Gun Control/Confiscation/Disarm
Here is a thought for everyone and possibly a question to the congresscritters.
Which law enforcement agency is going to take the guns from the gangs throughout all the inner cities?
(LA Riots)Which law enforcement agency is going to take the guns from the Korean community?
Last be not least, which law enforcement agency is going to take the guns from the Muslim community?
My opinion; no one will!
If the opinion is true what does this tell you?

Any gun starts out as legal and becomes illegal.Someone steals it from a home for example. This latest shooting the kindergarten teacher mom had a assault rifle and two semi automatic pistols stashed away for her mentally disturbed son to find.Banning firearms limits gun violence.Besides why would a robber use a gun if he can get what he needs with a knife? Chances are the situation will deescalate quicker. Also what prevents the Maj.Hassans of this world from stockpiling loads of weapons and ammunition? Remember the New Delhi terror attacks? They were 10 or so jihadists armed with assault rifles and grenades causing enormous carnage.I’m glad we don’t allow people to have guns here in the Netherlands.Sure there are criminal networks and you can with some effort find someone that can sell you a gun. But it’s expensive and you can’t pick what weapon you might want. You don’t know if it will even work or where it came from.If someone wants assault rifles and ammunition you are talking thousands of euro’s it’s not something a random Jihadist can just afford without drawing attention to himself.I think the statistics btw more then proof gun control is far superior to arming everyone in sight.

Hi Pamela, I read your article and I do agree with a lot of it about the mentally ill. I’m not too sure about censorship, as believes in a free society adults have the right to watch adult content. There should be things to protect to children in terms of certificate ratings for films and video games, child protection on the internet for those families that opt in to have those restrictions. Also parents have to take a lot of responsibility for what there children watch as well. However, even though I’m not a gun expert, when it comes to the gun issue I think there should firepower control, for example even though the second amendment says every individual has the right to bear arms, I don’t think it can mean everyone should be allowed to have a nuclear weapon or an rpg, as the weapons themselves can cause untold amounts of collateral damage whether it’s in a good or bad guys hands. Now I feel the same way about military “style” assault rifles which can hold 30 round clips, even though they’re semi-auto, an Adam Lanza of the world can do far more damage with those particular weapons bushmaster, Mr-15, AK-47 etc then with handguns, as they don’t carry so many rounds. The only 2 reasons people want these particular grade weapons is to protect them against the government if it became totalitarian and to protect there homes and businesses when there are violent uprisings like the LA Riots or Katrina. The first argument I think no longer holds water because if the Government has nuclear bombs, F16’s, Aircraft Carriers, Tanks, they cannot be defeated, and one has to do ones best to make sure that a government-military-police complex never goes rogue in this country. I have more sympathy with the second reason, however I think that the assault weapons are too powerful in the hands of the citizenry and should be restricted to the military and the police (along with armour piercing bullets as well). The guy in China who slashed 20 kids with a knife as horrible as that was did not kill any of the kids, unlike the psycho Lanza who killed 22 using such an assault weapon with such firepower. Now does banging assault rifles stop bad guys from getting hold of such weapons, of course not, which is why I think there should be a compromise. There should be armed officers carrying on schools and they take an oath to protect the school (even though one has to be concerned if one of those goes wacko as well, but I think I would more trust an experienced ex-police officer etc to take responsibility) I don’t think teachers should be allowed to carry as they are in a much more vunerable position of stress and can snap more easily, as my old teacher did in my school who punched a pupil in the face, and another story in the UK of a teacher who was assaulted a pupil with a weight from a set of scales causing severe head injuries. Furthermore, I don’t think there should be gun free zones, I think responsible citizens should be allowed to carry and conceal handguns to protect themselves and to up the odds when dealing with madmen. Having said that I don’t think I would ever visit a cinema in the US if everyone was packing, I might just stay home and watch a DVD instead.

Ow yeah, the argument about violent video games, books, movies etc. That is just silly.Take South Korea largest population of active gamers. They have never had a single school shooting.Everyone in the world is watching, reading playing the same stuff.Ive also never felt the need to shoot up a school after playing a violent video game. Its probably because its a new form of entertainment.

THE AMAZING INCREDIBLE RESPONSIBLE AMERICAN GUNOWNER
It is estimated that American civilians own a staggering 300 million guns, 15 million short of the entire population (88.8 guns per 100 people). Yet, amazingly, with so many millions of gunowners only 9200 died from gun violence last year, not a very large number by any rational measure. What this tells us about the American people and their “infamous deadly gun culture” is this: the vast, overwhelming majority of them are responsible enough, disciplined enough and law abiding enough to safely own guns. How many millions of gunowners get angry now and then, fly into rages at times, have murderous thoughts darkening their minds? And when they’re in a passion and looking for a fight how many go berserk grab their guns and go shooting things up? How many cross the line of civility and morality into lawlessness and homicide? The number is infinitesimal, so small in fact that one three thousandths of one percent died from gun violence last year.
But the crazy insane loco left says that this microscopic number is way too high; that it’s an unacceptable epidemic of needless, avoidable, horrible homicide. They say that unless our level of gun violence is no greater than England’s, Germany’s or Japan’s then we’re immoral, irresponsible and uncivilized; a disgrace to the human race; an ugly city on a hill; a model and measure to no one. In short, we’re a people morally damned whose only salvation is a gun ban.
After 225 years of the Second Amendment we’ve flopped the test. The old Wild West is very much alive; and our
gun rights are protected by an obsolete Constitution of Death. This is what passes for enlightened progressive thinking on the left. A shallow puddle of muddy water has more clarity and depth.

Obama wants to arm the savage Islamist “Free Syrian Army,” the craven “Fast & Furious” narco-traffickanos, and the feral gang-bangers, gang-rapists and pro athletes of Chicago, New York, Miami and LA, while at the same time insidiously trying to weaken and infringe the Second Amendment RIGHTS of decent, law-abiding WHITE American families. My sincere apologies to all decent, law-abiding BLACK American families — because I know you do exist — but the plainly obvious truth is that white people and white culture are under siege by envious and resentful black and brown males (many whom identify with Islam simply and ignorantly out of a desire for vengeance) through interracial marriage, politically correct abominations of law, and latent civil unrest and attendant gun violence. We Americans of all different races have to respect each other, especially for our differences. If black and brown people in this country feel that they have not been respected — that does not give them the right to disrespect white people as a class. I know the logic of this statement escapes many, because they have no developed apprehension of basic morality.
White people in this rapidly changing world cannot give up their last line of self-defense — their guns.

Well said Pamela. The nutjob who slaughtered the movie-goers who went to see Batman, thought he was the Joker. While I agree with you that the entertainment industry has some influence with people I don’t believe it can be held responsible for the actions of one lunatic.
I’m sure everyone has fantasized about shooting their enemies but because we’re rational people, we know it’s wrong and also the consequence are dire, we’d never do such things aside for self-defense and war.
However people with deranged minds don’t have such mental inhibitions so they are unable to refrain from their monstrous thoughts and behaviours. So the key is to keep guns out of dangerous people’s hands while preserving the right for sane people to have guns for protection.
The leftist response to such tragedies is so vulgar, infantile, ill-conceived and moronic on the face of it. It’s like trying to cure cancer by blasting a person with nuclear radiation. Yes you’ll kill the cancer and the patient as well, stupid liberals.
Another way of looking at it is saying we have ‘too much freedom’ and because this freedom allows some to go out and murder others for thrills, we must live under a fascist totalitarian police state. An extreme response to minor and resolvable problem.
No there are more nuanced solutions, tackle each of the inefficiencies in a system that allow incidents like this to occur, close those loop-holes and you can prevent future tragedies while retaining the 2nd Amendment and protecting people’s rights to have guns to defend themselves from thugs and tyranny.

More hypocrisy!
School Obama’s Daughters Attend Has 11 Armed Guards
The school, Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC, has 11 security officers and is seeking to hire a new police officer as we speak.
If you dismiss this by saying, “Of course they have armed guards — they get Secret Service protection,” then you’ve missed the larger point.
The larger point is that this is standard operating procedure for the school, period. And this is the reason people like NBC’s David Gregory send their kids to Sidwell, they know their kids will be protected from the carnage that befell kids at a school where armed guards weren’t used (and weren’t even allowed).
Shame on President Obama for seeking more gun control….

Yeah, I passed by Sidwell Friends a couple of times when I missed my turn on Wisconsin Avenue in D.C. The first time, I drove past this big athletic field, there were a lot of kids out there, soccer and other stuff. All of a sudden, there’s a secret service car. Then another. Other times, I see Metropolitan Police. It’s swarming with police and Secret Service. Now, i don’t know if they would be there without Malasha and Malisha, or Scalia, or whatever their names are. I can attest they’re there when I pass by during the weekdays. It’s a school for rich people, they can probably afford their own armed guards even without the the two girls.

Of course he is pushing the gun elimination of America. No Crisis should go to waste in taking America down.
As typical of his junior senator thinking, or more likely his council of muslim brotherhood inbred advisers, thankfully the opposite has happened.
Obama has armed the muslims against Christianity in the middle east, of course at our expense.
His comments on the prescription drugged up shooter, totally ignoring the mind altering prescription drug problem in America, attacked the 2nd amendment. He has caused every gun and every available round to fly off the shelf. He has single highhandedly sold more guns than anyone in recent history after WWII. The guy scares me more than a muslim on a plane. Buy your guns and stick your finger up to this creep.
He has an IQ of 160 with a teleprompter. Any guesses without?

I think that a psychological evaluation to anyone trying to buy a gun is a good idea. And medical records should be released and anyone with a mental history probably should not be able to purchase a gun. I still do think though, that anyone determined to commit a crime with a gun, will find a way to get one. yes, controlling the laws puts us all in danger. Thank you, Pamela, for a great article here on gun control!

John Nosser

We may also need all gun owners to properly secure their firearms. When not in use they should be unloaded and locked up. The ammunition should also be locked up in a separate location. If they have a loaded firearm somewhere, it should be in a place only they know, it should be nearby and easily accessible, and if not on their person it should not left there when they are not there. The mother of the shooter in Newtown was totally irresponsible in securing her firearms and ammunition. Maybe the shooter could have still gotten his hands on one or more weapons, if his mother had secured hers, but she made it entirely too easy for him.
