Saturday Night Cinema: Some Like it Hot

13

Geller is on a roll these last few weeks, and tonight's film selection for Saturday Night Cinema is no exception. Directed by my favorite film director, the incomparable Billy Wilder, Some Like It Hot is "replete with breathless pacing, transvestite humor, and unflinching cynicism." And it's damn funny. Starring Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis and a delicious Marilyn Monroe as Sugar. "Look at that! Look how she moves! That's just like Jell-O on springs!"

She was the first movie idol I totally fell in love with. The first piece of artwork I ever purchased was an original Bert Stern silk screen, at the tender age of 15.

Dearest Pammy;
AKA; Evil Zionist. AKA; Easy, Breezy, CoverGirl.
Every now, and then I get a little bit lonely, and you’re never coming round. Every now, and then I get a little bit tired of listening to the sound of my tears. Every now, and then I get a little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by. Every now, and then I get a little bit terrified, and then I see the look in your eyes
Every now, and then I fall apart
And I need you now tonight. And I need you more than ever. And if you only hold me tight. We’ll be holding on forever. And we’ll only be making it right ’cause we’ll never be wrong. Together we can take it to the end of the line. Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time.
I don’t know what to do, and I’m always in the dark. We’re living in a powder keg, and giving off sparks. I really need you tonight. Forever’s gonna start tonight. Forever’s gonna start tonight.
Once upon a time I was falling in love, but now I’m only falling apart.
There’s nothing I can do. A total eclipse of the heart.
Once upon a time there was light in my life, but now there’s only love in the dark. Nothing I can say. A total eclipse of the heart.
Love Always;
Barry O.

The black dress Marilyn wore on the train while playing uckele was featured on Antiques Roadshow recently, and the dress looked very small. Love this movie! I can’t help but be reminded of the Navy Seals murdered last New Years, reportedly out of jealousy? That was also set in Coronado. I always hoped there would be more press follow up on that case. There was reportedly a friend who called the cops and took off, and therefore could have shed more light, but no further reports could I find.

Pam…
Tony Curtis was really cute as a girl…I’m a guy and I’m not gay, but I know cute when I see it…Actually, the whole movie was cute…Another cute guy who made movies was Danny Kaye…You should feature one of his movies sometime…

Hey, Pamela, when are you going to see and review Atlas Shrugged II? Where do you think from whom you got your philosophy?

Excellent choice. A movie with a loving heart and joyous sense of life. I think you have to go back to Astaire and Rogers in Top Hat and Gay Divorcee to equal this one for its celebration of that great American ideal, the pursuit of happiness.

We better enjoy them while we can. After our traitorous government delivers our country to the Muslim controlled United Nations, not only will they not be allowed, but the Sharia enforcers will do their best to destroy all copies of them.

I had never seen Marilyn Monroe in a full length movie- I think the only movie that has provoked more chuckles from me was “Dr. Strangelove”. The unfortunate MM was not only a sexpot extraordinaire, but, within a limited purview, a fine actress. My sense is that, in this film at least, she more or less played herself- and did so consummately.
