Countering
the Lies of the MSM: The Ground Zero Mosque War in the Information
Battlespace
Pamela Geller, Big Journalism.

Story continues below advertisement

Tens of thousands attended the Rally of Remembrance for the 9/11
victims and against the Ground Zero mega-mosque on Saturday. The crowd
was so large, it stretched as far as the eye could see; you could not
see the horizon from our stage.

Yet AP reported that the pro-mosque counter-demonstration drew around
a thousand “activists,” while “a smaller group of opponents rallied
nearby, chanting, ‘USA, USA.’” The New York Post was only
marginally more honest, numbering our rally attendees at 2,500: “The
estimated 3,000 pro-mosque demonstrators outnumbered the mosque
opponents by about 500.”

New York 1 did a story on the rallies, but only showed footage of the pro-mosque rally. The Post
likewise only published pictures of the pro-mosque rally. AP ran an
aerial photo of the rally, but one that was so poorly framed that
one-third of it was dominated by a large gray building, and the crowd
was cut off on the other side.

No one ran accurate photos of the rally, showing the full size of the
crowd stretching beyond the horizon. Why didn’t anyone think to take
aerial shots of both rallies? That would have settled all questions. The
pictures don’t lie, but the media does. AP and the Post were
not alone in their depiction of our rally and the pro-Islamic
supremacist one as “dueling rallies.” Their coverage of our immense
rally versus the tiny counter-protest is dangerous and absurd.

What’s more, the media is missing a bigger story: that some who
attended our rally say that New York police were actually keeping people
away from the rally. An Atlas Shrugs reader who was at the rally wrote
to me speculating that police “must have been given orders to knock down
the numbers.” She reported: “I was there and they were chasing us away –
I was moved 7 times! I was moved so far away I had to go around the
block and could not get back. The truth is they finally refused access
to thousands.”

The same eyewitness noted that when the Ground Zero memorial
ceremonies concluded, “what seemed like thousands” began making their
way to our Rally of Remembrance, the police “went crazy and closed down
the sidewalk entirely. They kept shoving us backwards until I, along
with many in my group were forced right out of the block.”

And after this, the media says hardly anyone was there. The real coverage can only be found on my website, AtlasShrugs.com,
and other reliable news sites. The media ignored the story of the
Ground Zero mega-mosque for months. It was the American people who put
this story on the map.

But instead of dealing responsibly with the objections to the Ground
Zero mosque, the media has tried to morph the outrage over the Ground
Zero mega-mosque into some fringe pastor’s Quran-burning stunt, as if
the only people who opposed the mosque were rednecks and bigots. Of
course, that’s their narrative. They created that story. The Today Show flew the Pastor up for an interview. Got that? They have never had on a responsible voice of the mosque opposition.

Read it all. Get angry and then get to work. It's war of ideas ……. we must build a new our own alternate network. It's up to you.

On the issue of the police keeping people out. I do not speak for them but I can speculate what may have happened. Estimation of a crowd size at a rally is tricky business and the police need to have some kind of idea how many are planned to attend a given rally. The reason for this is so they can have enough police present so things don’t get too out of hand.
My gut feeling is that the police were told not to let the crowd get too big and unwieldy. Now remember, they also had the pro-mosque crowd to deal with, plus many were at the commemoration ceremonies both in presence and as working officers helping the crowd. They too lost many of their brothers when 911 happened. Given that, they were probably stretched and at some point decided to keep more people from getting into the crowd.
I know many of the cops were probably with you guys in spirit in any event.

It will be herculean, but there is no alternative. Our own media network. The MSM certainly will not report the truth. That they refuse the reporting function so blatantly can, at this point and with years of evidence, be ascribed to a purposeful deceit, even conspiracy, to change the character of America to be molded in what the MSM wants, all leftist, and really big government.
Yes, Pamela, an alternative network is necessary. Today I caught a clip of Breithbart saying something along those lines at the 912 rally in Washington.
No longer can we operate this way if America is to be preserved.
Let us know what can we do individually to bring an alternative network into reality.

I attended both rallies, and witnessed the events at their maximum capacity. Without a doubt, the pro-mosque event was about 1/6th, maybe 1/10th, the size of Geller’s event.
Let us simply analyze the areas occupied by each group – it really isn’t that difficult, as each group occupied an obviously differing size in area:
pro mosque rally: Stretched from Park to Warren along the Eastern sidewalk of City Hall Park. Furthmore, these groups tended to constantly circle the barricaded area, exaggerating their presence, but I will disregard that fact.
The sidewalk along the park is approximately 25 feet wide. A Standard Manhattan block is approximately 260 feet by 900 feet. We can then assign 4 square feet per person. Knowing the the pro-mosque event stretched from Park Pl. to Warren Street, we can then dictate: 260 feet per block x 2 blocks x 25 feet wide divided by 4 square feet per person = 3,250 people…This doesn’t take into account the fact that many people continuously circled the area creating an illusion of more people, nor does it account for the massive holes in the crowd resulting from hippy drum circles, indian powwows, buddhist chanting groups, and tents. Therefore, this estimate is quite generous.
Rally of Remembrance:Stretched from Park Pl to Reade along W Broadway, and encompassed the entire width of the street – at 4 lanes wide, and 12 feet per lane, this equals 48 feet wide. 260 feet per block x 4 blocks x 48 feet wide and 4 square feet per person = 12,480 people. This doesn’t take into account people along the periphery at each intersection who couldn’t find space in the main area. Furthermore, this group stood still, shoulder to shoulder, rather than constantly moving about, and presents a more accurate representation.
Thusly, the Rally of Remembrance had AT LEAST 4 times as many people.

Furthermore, I can tell you that a news helicopter did hover over the area for nearly an hour – that there are no published aerial photos is troubling. They probably spent all their time photographing the ENTIRE crowd of 40 “9/11 Troofers” at the plaza on W. Broadway and Barclay…or were distracted by a kitty cat.
I can also vouch for people claiming the police officers seemed to purposely mislead people, sending them in the wrong direction, or pretending to be unaware of alternate events in the area, since I was personally was told to walk in 3 different directions to get to Geller’s rally

There are enough contributors out there, but they aren’t coordinated. With a proper management structure it would be possible to produce an online news outlet that would put the forest-devastating MSM out of business.

Like the MSM have done for years?
When you can go to a rally and see it in your own eyes then come home and here a different story, it has a tendency to make you see the light. I wasn’t at her rally but I’ve attended the Pro-troops rallies back in 1990’s during Iraq War, I personally saw some of the misleading the media does.

I traveled five hours by car to get to the rally. Here is my experience.
I walked south toward the meeting place on Park Place between Church and West Broadway.
As I got close, around 4:15pm, I saw some people with American flags walking North on West Broadway. I also saw groups of pro-mosque people standing around talking. Lots and lots of police.
No one was allowed on Park Place which was blocked off.
I was redirected by the police several times. My impression was that they were trying to be helpful but were totally overwhelmed and concerned about violence amongst the crowds. Though I was redirected by police I saw no evidence of them restricting us from entering the rally. They just didn’t seem to all be reading from the same direction manual. However, they when I announced I was looking for the rally they ( about ten over the course of ten minutes) directed me honestly. The police are actually on our side since they went through 911. I saw many police fraternizing with firefighters, police from 911 experience.
Finally, I made it to the actual rally. We had to enter the area via a central entrance between fences.
When I got there at 4:25 pm the total size of the crowd was two blocks. Probably about 2,000 people at most.
I never got to see the other rally so I can’t estimate their size.
The photos posted here were taken from the very front where the speakers were. They give the impression of a lot more people than were actually present. If you look at the photos carefully you will see that the end of the crowd is where there are lots of signs and bigger flags. You can tell from the buildings that one full block and the bulk of the next one but no more were filled.
Sorry to bust your bubble but why not be honest with ourselves. There were not 40,000, 10,000 or even 5,000 people there by 4:25pm.
I very much look forward to being at rallies of 40,000 and much more but we weren’t near that size when I was there. And, no, 35,000 people didn’t just evaporate from 3 – 4 pm.
The rally was promptly ended at 5pm.
The people I saw were all civil and very orderly. All kinds of people.
Lots of signs which we had been told would be confiscated but were not. Many flags.
Some of the people had very inflammatory signs that the cameras flocked to.
In addition, lots of very strange people were being interviewed with the bulk of us being totally ignored.
I saw TV from Japan, Russia Today, etc.
I thought the rally was very successful.
Like Pam, I was disappointed with the media response. The media, as we all know, are not friendly to us and we need to be very careful how we deal with them.
For accuracy in reporting.

BUT they take ORDERS from Bloomberg Through Kelly.
The TOTAL MEDIA BLACKPOT,the absence of Helicopters with Media/Photographers to TRUTHFULLY show the 2 crowds, and to whatever extent there was DELIBERATE action(s) taken to LESSEN the crowd, are ALL part of a MAJOR Co-Ordinated “PLAY” by The LEFT/ISLAMIST ALLIANCE.
Without a Bloomberg as NYC Mayor and a CORRUPT LEFT-WING MEDIA none of this would even be happening.
Rudy Guliani wouldn’t even have had to TELL THEM NO to a GROUND ZERO MOSQUE because they would have KNOWN that NEVER would that happen on his watch, and they wouldn’t even have ATTEMPTED to try to build their VICTORY MOSQUE.

Let us prepare better for a rally in 2011. This time the date should be a day or two before 9/11 and held in a better play, how about close to ground zero where there is more space. In the meantime let us all contact media-people about all Islam, over and over again, but friendly of course to get them interested on what Islam really is. And in the meantime if the mega mosque project is to start, take to actions. Islam will not be stopped with words alone, people in Spain have have stopped mosque buildings with dead pigs.

Your event was a success and the slime stream media can’t cope with that fact because it goes against their agenda and narrative to portray, 70 percent of, Americans are Islamophobic haters. So here’s my suggestion ask your loved ones, family and friends to boycott all Media that lied about the numbers, do not buy/watch their media medium boycott their advertisors. We can financially strike a blow to the lying down and dirty anti-American Media. The truth is an American value, Slime Stream Media think they are our ruling elites and they treat us like trash return the favour and treat them with financial contempt.

Like Tyler, I attended both demonstrations, though I stayed at the pro-mosque demonstration till it ended, which led to my very late arrival at Geller’s rally.
Tyler’s estimates of pro-mosque crowd size and the area the crowd filled are exactly the estimates I had intended to supply.
The crowd, however, had a character worse than disheartening. Virtually every speaker suggested — at a demonstration aimed at peace — the only way to beat the “racists and bigots” was with violence. Some made oblique suggestions. Others were direct. One emcee, a black woman who introduced some speakers, channled Malcolm X, calling out “by any means necessary.” Another chant that was repeated several times was “No Justice, No Peace.”
At a peace rally?
Meanwhile, apparently a pro-palestinian group functioned as the chief organizing force of that rally.
Despite the incessant Israel bashing, there was a more disturbing tone and subtext to the rhetoric — which was mostly old tired revolutionary claptrap from the last 40 years. I got the feeling that more than anything else, the crowd supporting the mosque most wanted to go around the corner in street-gang form and kick the crap out of a few people at the anti-mosque rally. The crowd was seething, driven by an animus that was close to blood lust.
For some weird reason these goofy American lefties think they have a special place in the eyes of islam. As if they would escape life in the dhimmitude if they were living in muslim territory.
Meanwhile, as others have said, it was tough to get into the Remembrance Rally. The cops, I think, knew nothing about how to find an entry point. I’ve had this experience for years at any public NYC event attracting large outdoor crowds. If you ask a cop for directions, he gives you an answer that gets you out of his hair. That’s it.
In fact, after getting bad directions a couple of times, I went to a cop standing at a crowd barrier a block west of the rally and told him that every direction I’d been given had led to dead ends, so could I just slip in here? He actually asked me why I wanted to get in. That surprised me. I said, to hear the speakers. He let me in and that was that.

Look, Im sure you know this but we’re in a Culture War with Islam-its very basis is anti-Constitution, and therefore, anti-American. You cant have a government founded on the basis of “natural law” and the will of the individual as we are. occupying the same space as a “religion” which at its core has three means of coexisting with non-believers: convert peacefully, convert by force, or die.

Really this whole ground zero mosque thing is silly. A bunch of non-sense. Pamella I love your work and what you do for the cause of Freedom. However, there are more vital things to focus on that we should be making way more noise about, trying to stop them and bringing them to justice (CAIR And all their cronies).
I’m talking aboout the high level infiltration of the Bureaucratic Elite in Washington and the Military by those who are pro Jihad or are sympathetic and make it easier for the jihadists, either by being bought off with saudi money or simply are motivated ideologically. We must stop them at all cost.
Why are we talking about this mosque? when what happened at Fort Worth in Texas was way (even though this mosque is insidious as well) worse. Where CAIR cronies came in to give “sensitivity training” to the soldiers that survived the ordeal and the rest of the personnel.

It seems as though I am the lone wolf on the east coast supporting the leavenworth 10.You people are so eat up with ground zero that you neglect the soldiers who fought the war and went to prison for it. I am hoping that any parent who has a kid who wants to be a soldier have his child read the story of Lt Michael Behenna. Unjustly convicted by the military for killing al-qu-da . Families afraid to say a word because they grasp some hope of clemency for their loved one. It is a sad state of a fairs that these soldiers were railroaded by there superiors and now are POWs here in America Held by Americans where is the Justice. There are 10 soldiers who should be free and where is the out cry of support? There is none. Where is the news media. They are on a story about a book burning and not a good book to boot. I urge all kids who get a call from a military recruiter to bring up the the cases of the L-10 and isnt it silly to have this blogger dressed up as super women when she has done nothing super for AMERICAN POWs IN AMERICA After the way some of these soldiers have been treated they would still finish there tour of duty in Iraq or Afganistan today if they could. Yes,. Pamela, our own alternative network. . .
Today I had a chance conversation with a shopkeeper whose opinion was at the opposite end of the spectrum from mine. Without boring everyone with the details, I found we agreed about the lack of women’s rights, and the barbarity of genital mutilation, and sharia law. And THEN she backed up about appeasement; and agreed that maybe in certain situations we had to take a stand; and then she mentioned Switzerland and their new law – she wouldn’t want to hear the muezzin call in her neighborhood 5 times a day. . . and I left her shop wondering if a lot of folks are just afraid to even talk about this at all – sharia is already having its way with us.
I’m going to open my mouth more often and I’ve already started writing to any elected official I feel like writing to, and I’m keeping a presence online in various comment sections – and that’s just the beginning! Thank you Pamela, for your inspirational work!

I was at the 9/11 rally and I know what I saw. There was literally a multitude of thousands there.
Three New York City blocks were packed solid. I would say 30,000 to 40,000 were there.
There is no way that 1500 to 2500 showed up, it was way more than that. I was at the last rally in June too, and they said about 10,000 showed up for that. Pamela and Robert’s 9/11 rally was 4 times larger than the one in June. And if there are any doubts about the numbers, why is there a huge video screen above the stage? Why did the public address sound system extend down the street for two blocks? I know this because I saw it all. I arrived 10 minutes late and I was sent to the back of the crowd by the police. That was 3 blocks away. And it’s a good thing that Pam rented the large screen and sound system, because that is the only way I could see and hear this great event on the stage.
You cannot trust the MSM, and this is the proof. The MSM is deliberately down playing the event. My only explanation is that deep down inside they know we are right about Islam. And the MSM is afraid, very, very afraid!
Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller, Thanks for a great day!
We all appreciate the great work you do!

On Sept 10, Dallas, TX WFAA tv’s 10 o’clock news broadcast reported that there was to be a 9/11 memorial rally in New York city the next day. As the reporter read this report, the clip playing was of the 9/10 Pro-Victory Mosque Candlelight Vigil, which wasn’t mentioned in the report. It started with a close-up of candles being lit and then panned back to show a bunch of Muslim men in their Muslim garb, solemnly holding their candles. If one didn’t know about the 9/10 Pro-Victory Mosque Candlelight Vigil, which I imagine most viewers didn’t, would assume those men were holding a candlelight vigil/memorial for the victims of 9/11. Of course, I knew better, but I don’t rely upon the lamestream media for the news as many people I know do.

I regret actually making an exact numerical count. My estimation may not be as high as the actual count, however, I do know that the crowd was at least four times larger than the rally in June. I was at both rallies….. and both were great……… Regardless of how many people were at Pam’s 9/11 event, the mainstream media distorted and minimized the event and the amount of people that attended. Kudos to the police as well, there were many bad apples at the “pro mosque” rally and it seemed like the police were quite aware of it.

The Ground Zero mosque.
Lets accept as true the fallowing hypothesis for just a few minutes:
a) Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf might be a sincere man, acting in good faith, and not under the taqqilla’s and sharia’s principles.
b) the international terrorism “jihad” has nothing to do with the projected mosque at Ground Zero.
c) President Obama is a legitimate and natural born American citizen.
The slightest doubt about matters so sensitive and so directly connected with the national security can’t be justified, under no circumstances¡
