I thought I should share some of the feedback we have been receiving from the "Leaving Islam" bus campaign that offends the media and Islamic supremacists but helps save lives. My name is  Omar Khalid". I am a 32 year old Pakistani American male from United States.  My parents are from Pakistan but I was born and raised in Illinois. I was brought up Muslim for most of my life. I prayed 5 times a day, fasted in Ramadan, read the Quran and fellowshipped with other Muslim men. I wanted to spread my religion to the world and despised anyone who would criticize it. There was even a time I wanted to become a Mujahid and go straight to heaven.

It was not until much later in life that I began to be open minded and think to myself that maybe I did not have all the answers. I came into contact with people who would challenge my religious beliefs. I read the Quran more and more to see if I could clear up misunderstandings. The more I read, the more I became confused as to what to believe. For example, in the Quran it says “Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret what Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them. Lo! Allah is ever High Exalted, Great“ (4:34). I was in shock after reading this verse. I thought it was a license for men to commit domestic violence. The word scourge definitely stood out. I thought Islam to be peaceful and that Mohammed was a role model. How could he sanction domestic violence? Another disturbing account was when Mohammed married the wife of his adopted son Zaid, as it is written in the Quran “And when you said to him to whom Allah had shown favor and to whom you had shown a favor: Keep your wife to yourself and be careful of (your duty to) Allah; and you concealed in your soul what Allah would bring to light, and you feared men, and Allah had a greater right that you should fear Him. But when Zaid had accomplished his want of her, We gave her to you as a wife, so that there should be no difficulty for the believers in respect of the wives of their adopted sons, when they have accomplished their want of them; and Allah's command shall be performed. There is no harm in the Prophet doing that which Allah has ordained for him; such has been the course of Allah with respect to those who have gone before; and the command of Allah is a decree that is made absolute” 33:37-38. In the Bible it is forbidden to covet another man’s wife, yet in this situation Mohammed lusted after the wife of his adopted son! What disturbed me the most was when he married a 6 year old named Aisha. It is written in the hadith "Narrated Hisham’s father: Khadija died three years before the Prophet departed to Medina. He stayed there for two years or so and then he married ‘Aisha when she was a girl of six years of age, and he consummated that marriage when she was nine years old." Bukhari vol.5 book 58 ch.43 no.236 p.153. In Islam men are encouraged to imitate Mohammed as Christians are to imitate Jesus. If marrying a 6 year old is considered proper in Islam, then it is a religion I no longer wish to associate myself with. There are many other inconsistencies in the hadith, for example when Mohammed describes the Biblical Adam’s height as being 90 ft tall. I doubt that any human being would have been that tall in early creation.

There are verses in the Quran and Hadith which do advocate violence and hatred, for example in the Quran it says “Fight those who do not believe in Allah…nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection" (9:29). Another verse in the Quran says "O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people." (5:51)

In the Hadith it says ”Ali burnt some people and this news reached Ibn 'Abbas, who said, "Had I been in his place I would not have burnt them, as the Prophet said, 'Don't punish (anybody) with Allah's Punishment.' No doubt, I would have killed them, for the Prophet said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.''' Volume 4, Book 52, Number 260.

According to this verse, I committed the ultimate act of treason. According to Islam I deserve a fatwa against me.

After doing much research I decided that I can no longer practice nor advocate the religion of Islam. I am not sure what path to take but I know that I can no longer follow this path. God bless former Muslims such as Walid Shoebat, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Nonie Darwish, Rifqa Bary and many others for inspiring me with hope and standing up for what they believe in. They have showed me that I am not alone in my decision. I know that I may have many enemies and I also know that there will be many people who will be disappointed in my decision to leave Islam. I am prepared to deal with the consequences all in the name of truth and justice.

You are not just speaking for the Americans, but also for the rest of the world
who are threatened by Islam. You are inspiring and you give me hope 🙂
