AFDI Free Speech Victory: What They Are Saying

    Leaving islam bus

I thought Atlas readers would get a charge out of the dhimmedia's take on our win for free speech and for apostates in fear of their lives. Of course, the media ran to Muslim Brotherhood-tied CAIR for comment, not to apostates. Every news report cited Hamas-tied CAIR; not one asked aposates or would-be apostates. Where are the comments from Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Ibn Warraq, Wafa Sultan?

Michigan leader of the Council on American-Islamic Relations Executive Director Dawud Walid said the American Freedom Defense Initiative's ads are "designed to promote Islamophobia."

Islamic supremacist Muslim Brotherhood group says our ads to save lives, "are designed to promote Islamophobia." This is more Islamic propaganda to enforce Islamic law of blasphemy (do not insult Islam) and reinforce sharia for converts out of Islam (death).

Story continues below advertisement

Council of Islamic Relations of Michigan called the ads "another example of a hate group taking advantage of the First Amendment."

Pot meet kettle. I mean really. Could these fascists gotten so far without exploiting our freedoms, freedoms void in Muslim countries living under the sharia? How brazen are the stealth jihadists.

US judge rules for Muslim defector bus ads by DAVID N. GOODMAN, Associated Press

DETROIT (AP) — A group that says it helps Muslims quit their faith has won a court order against Detroit's regional transit system for rejecting bus ads that ask, "Fatwa on your head? … Leaving Islam? Got questions? Get answers!"

U.S. District Judge Denise Page Hood granted a preliminary injunction Thursday against the bus system, which was sued last year by the American Freedom Defense Initiative.

The advocacy group says the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation violated the group's First and 14th Amendment rights by rejecting the ads it submitted May 12.

"There is a strong likelihood," the judge wrote, that the ad's promoters could show that the bus company's decision to reject the ads "was not reasonable but rather arbitrary and capricious." Hood set a conference on the case for April 11.

SMART declined comment on the case Friday. In court filings, the bus system said its policies against political and several other types of ads are constitutional.

[…]

The Michigan leader of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said the ruling is not the end of the matter and said his group respects the legal process. Executive Director Dawud Walid said the American Freedom Defense Initiative's ads are "designed to promote Islamophobia."

"This organization has been designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group in the same way as the Ku Klux Klan," Walid said.

The ads are headlined, "Leaving Islam?" The text says: "Fatwa on your head? Is your family or community threatening you? Got questions? Get answers!"

Geller said the ads have run on buses in New York and Miami.

"I am thrilled, not just for the protection of free speech, but for those living in danger who will be helped by our freedom buses," Geller said in a posting on her website.

Federal judge says SMART must accept 'Leaving Islam?' bus ads MLive.com – Jeff T. Wattrick

Geller is an ever-loving Islamophobe. Under the Constitution, she has every right to share her thoughts on the subject through bus advertisements that would otherwise promote WADL’s weekday line-up.

“We are not descended from fearful men,” Edward R. Murrow once said. That’s true of all variety of Americans, including Muslim-Americans. Surely, they can survive the indignity of a mildly offensive bus ad.

What we can’t survive is an attempt, however small, to chip away at the First Amendment.

The same First Amendment protecting Pamela Geller’s marketing effort also protects Muslims’ right to build the Park51 Community Center, even though some people want to protect from redevelopment the hallowed ground of Manhattan’s bankrupt Burlington Coat Factory.

This is also the same First Amendment that allows reasonable Americans of good will to call out Geller and her ilk (be it Pastor Terry Jones or the Thomas More Law Center’s Richard Thompson) as little better than shaved and fumigated Klansmen ginning up hate against a group of American citizens who pose no more of a threat to this nation than the Knights of Columbus.

In the false Clash of Civilizations that occupies so much of the feeble brains belonging to both Islamists and Christianists, we should all choose the proverbial “C”…the rights and values laid out in the U.S. Constitution.

UPI headline calls us "anti-Muslim." I am counter jihad, not anti-Muslim. I love people. I fight extreme, misogynist, genocidal ideologies. These ads save lives.

DETROIT, April 2 (UPI) — A judge has ruled an anti-Muslim group has the First Amendment right to run ads on public buses in the Detroit area.

The American Freedom Defense Initiative went to court after the Southeastern Michigan Transportation Authority refused to accept the ads, The Detroit News reported. The initiative is run by Pamela Geller, who also heads Stop Islamization of America and is one of the most vocal opponents of the so-called ground-zero mosque in New York.

U.S. District Judge Denise Hood granted Geller's group a preliminary injunction Thursday.

"This is a huge win, not just for us, but for the First Amendment," Geller said on the initiative's Web site.

The ads, to be run on the side of buses, say: "Fatwa on your head? Leaving Islam? Refuge from Islam.com. Got questions? Get answers!"

Victor Begg, an adviser to the Council of Islamic Relations of Michigan, said Muslims who want to leave the faith are free to do so. He called the ads "another example of a hate group taking advantage of the First Amendment."

The mind reels. Kudos to Crains for objective, responsible reporting:

Judge rules against SMART in suit over Muslim-defector bus ads‎ – Crain's Detroit Business

U.S. District Judge Denise Page Hood this week granted a preliminary injunction in favor of the American Freedom Defense Initiative; its executive director, Pamela Geller; and an associate director after hearing legal arguments last July.

The organization, through its attorneys at the Ann Arbor-based Thomas More Law Center, sought to reverse the authority's refusal to display billboard ads stating: "Fatwa on your head? Is your family or community threatening you? Leaving Islam? Got questions? Get Answers!"

A fatwa is a religious decree or opinion from a qualified Islamic cleric about the duty of Muslims on a specific subject. Certain fatwas from radical segments have been known in the past to sanction killing a nonbeliever.

The American Freedom Defense Initiative, which opposed "Islamic supremacism" and offers to help Muslims leave the faith through its website, brought a lawsuit last March against SMART, General Manager John Hertel and Marketing Program Manager Beth Gibbons.

The authority denied its application for billboard space on vehicle exteriors that SMART sells through CBS Outdoor Inc., citing a content restriction policy that bars advertising for "political or political campaign advertising" or ads that are "likely to hold up to scorn or ridicule any person or group of persons," according to court records.

Hood ruled this week that the American Freedom Defense Initiative had a chance of proving in court that it had suffered "irreparable harm" from a First Amendment violation.

"Given the arbitrary nature of SMART's policy and decision-making practices, (the American Freedom Defense Initiative and its directors) have a high likelihood of succeeding on the merits with respect to whether the restriction of their speech was unreasonable in this case," the ruling states.

Court grants preliminary injunction on anti-Islam ad‎ – Michigan Messenger

The ad says: “Fatwa on your head? Is your family or community threatening you? Leaving Islam? Got questions? Get Answers!” It also contains the website address for the organization.

Ironically, an earlier ad placed on SMART buses by the Detroit Coalition of Reason, a collection of atheist, freethinker and humanist groups, was a key factor in the ruling. That ad said: “Don’t believe in God? You’re not alone.”

The judge’s ruling was almost inevitable. SMART is a government agency that has allowed other groups to place controversial political and religious ads on their buses. It cannot, under numerous precedents, reject an ad based on its political or religious viewpoint or content.

US judge rules for Muslim defector bus ads‎ – Wall Street Journal

The advocacy group says the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation violated the group's First and 14th Amendment rights by rejecting the ads it submitted May 12.

"There is a strong likelihood," the judge wrote, that the ad's promoters could show that the bus company's decision to reject the ads "was not reasonable but rather arbitrary and capricious." Hood set a conference on the case for April 11.

[…]

Richard Thompson, president of the Ann Arbor-based center, said Hood's decision "represents a victory for free speech, but the battle is not over."

Thompson's group filed suit in U.S. District Court in Detroit on behalf of the group sponsoring the ads and group leaders Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer. Geller leads an organization called Stop Islamization of America, and Spencer is head of the group Jihad Watch.

The Detroit area has one of the nation's most concentrated Muslim populations. About 300,000 people in the area have roots in the Arab world.

AFDI was not named as a hate group, but CAIR just lies and lies and lies and expects no one will call Dawud on his dawah.

I really do not understand how these bus ads on “Leaving Islam” promote Islamophobia. I’m not Muslim, have never been Muslim, have no intention of being a Muslim, so the ads mean nothing to me.
Is CAIR claiming that the ad promotes Islamophobia amongst Muslims? Don’t Muslims already know the penalty for apostasy?
IOW words, they don’t want prospective Muslims to know about this?

Brainstorm Alert:
Ms. Geller – Here is a wonderful strategy for dealing with moral relativists and multiculturalists.
Apologist: Can’t you see that Muslims worldwide killed innocent people because of the Koran burning in Florida by a pastor?
Response: You mean the Koran burning is the excuse they needed to killed innocent people?
Apologist: That’s right.
Response: I see.
You: What’s the excuse for 9/11?
What’s the excuse for Beslan?
What’s the excuse for (more than 17,000 Muslim terrorist attacks since 9/11 per TheReligionOfPeace.com – take your pick)?
Every time Muslims commit terrorism, let’s start asking the reasons, the excuses.
You can then ask “Is there ever Muslim terrorism committed without a reason?” If yes, what.
Should we start living our lives so as not not offend Muslims?
Should Muslims start living their lives so as to not offend non-Muslims?
The Koran is offensive to non-Muslims who have read it. Islamic deity Allah is offensive for calling us apes, pigs, monkeys, dogs, worse than cattle, etc. Koran-sanctioned rape, amputation, crucifixion, theft, robbery, extortion, beheading, etc. are offensive to us non-Muslims.

Rather ironic, CAIRs claims. Let’s see. Muslims in Afghanistan just beheaded a Norwegian female pilot and shot 5 Nepalese because a minister in Florida burned their so-called holy book. One cannot underestimate the sheer violent tendencies of these inbred cultists.

In light of the fact that the UK is further down the road to islamification than the States and therefore nearer to a possible bust up,it may help you all to regard all those wearing the “freedom sack” as the shock troops of Politicised, militant, rejectionist, islam. As such, a non lethal comment that reveals your disapproval, such as “terrorist” as you pass helps them understand the limits of their appeal and your tolerance. More and more folks over here are having to take these steps or witness further encroachment by muslims on our identity and ways of life. In my view, stemming the flood of islamic lies and intolerance has to be multilayered, court actions where needed yes of course, but increasing resistance at street level too from as many ordinary people as possible, this rejection seems to make them feel uncomfortable and attacks their self belief, a wholly welcome development. Dr W SULTAN has made the transition from oppressed muslim woman to glorious free human being thanks to America, so can others if they have the willpower.

CAIR and the Southern Poverty Law Center kill me…..they compare SIOA to the KKK while the very people they defend are burning churches and killing people. I think they need to re-read the definition of hate group.

“This organization has been designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group in the same way as the Ku Klux Klan,” Walid said.
In February, the SPLC released its latest “Hate Map,” which purports to track “hate groups” (there’s no legal definition for that spurious term, btw) across America.
The largest single category of “hate group” on that map, according to the SPLC’s own accounting, is for “Black Separatists,” far outnumbering the KKK, neo-Nazis and skinheads respectively.
The SPLC numbers further claim that two-thirds of those alleged Black “hate groups” are chapters of the Nation of Islam, i.e., Muslims.
http://wp.me/pCLYZ-8S
So which is it, SPLC? Are domestic Muslims a threat or not? Pick one.
And as far as being lumped in with the KKK, just two weeks ago the SPLC’s public relations guru Mark Potok told the San Luis Obispo Tribune that “The Klan has disintegrated. There is NO Klan now.”
http://wp.me/pCLYZ-9i
That minor revelation doesn’t stop Mr. Potok from listing the Klan on his fund-raising “Hate Map” 221 times, however. Remember, the numbers can NEVER go down… it might cut into the donations.

“Council of Islamic Relations of Michigan called the ads “another example of a hate group taking advantage of the First Amendment.”-from the article
Orwell warned against the abuse of language and considered it the most dangerous threat to free political speech (the free expressions of ideas and opinions). Incitement to kill (as in the Jew-hating suras in the Qu’ran) is not protected speech. However, to repeat: political speech, ideas and opinions, are fully protected by the first amendment.
We see the term “hate” routinely used against people who are presenting facts and opinions re Islam, and are critically analytical re those facts in the formulation of their opinions.
For example: 90% of women in Egypt have been sexually mutilated (fact) and that practice has the Islamic Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval in Egypt. Should that practice be “tolerated” as the free exercise of religion in the US? Is the imposition of Sharia a serious violation of an individual’s human rights and Civil Rights in that?
What’s your opinion?
Such questions are motivated by reason.
Islam is not worth hating-it deserves ridicule and contempt for permitting such practices. (It is interesting that Saint Thomas Aquinas and Maimonides both noted that in defining what Gd is, it is best to begin the search by listing what Gd is not. I don’t think Gd is a clit-snipper. Do you? (a question for Muslims and Unbelievers.)

Derivatively on-topic: Sen Dick Turban (Dhimmi-Ill.) was just on Meet the Press blaming Pastor Jones for the muslims who murdered the UN workers. Not a word to blame the murderers.
I guess Turban wd have condemned burning Mein Kampf during WW II, so as not to provoke Nazis. Actually, he’d have surely been interned as a 3d Reich sympathizer, so I guess the question is moot.
Oooops, did I just commit hate speech?

“in defining what Gd is, it is best to begin the search by listing what Gd is not.”
Brilliant.
“I do not believe God is a being who commands us to kidnap kind, peace-loving unarmed people and saw their head off while we roar out his name, and record the whole spectacle and broadcast it to the world. No, I just don’t see God’s hand in that–quite the reverse.”

There is a pattern that amounts to a soft-incitement to violence by “moderate” Muslims and others in warning people who exercise free political speech of the consequences of doing that. They usually warn that though they are not “extremists” who advocate violence in matters of free political speech, it is likely that the “extremists” will commit violence. Durban participates in such dishonesty (and cowardice) in blaming Jones for the violence against the UN people.
The violence was committed by Muslims-not Jones.
(I think Jones is a delusional wack-job. (He looks like Jed Clampett.) But the insane response to his Qu’ran burning is not his action, and it is soft-incitement to violence to warn him or others that they cause violence when they exercise free political speech (the expression of ideas and opinions-either symbolically or verbally).

Frank
Frank

BTW-Iago Rauf did that (soft-incitement) when he warned that he could not control violence that may result because of protests against the GZ mosque by Pamela.
Rauf’s kind of soft-incitement to violence against people who are exercising their constitutionally protected right to free political speech (ideas and opinions) is bullshit and people have to become very conscious of what guys like Iago Rauf and other “moderate” Muslims are doing as they subtly threaten Unbelievers as the Unbelievers exercise their unlimited right to free political speech (ideas and opinions).

Description of Iago from Wiki: “Iago is one of Shakespeare’s most sinister villains, often considered such because of the unique trust that Othello places in him, which he betrays while maintaining his reputation of honesty and dedication. Shakespeare contrasts Iago with Othello’s nobility and integrity. With 1097 lines, he has more lines than Othello.
Iago is a Machiavellian schemer and manipulator, as he is often referred to as “honest Iago”, displaying his skill at deceiving other characters so that not only do they not suspect him, but they count on him as the person most likely to be truthful.
Shakespearean critic A. C. Bradley said that “evil has nowhere else been portrayed with such mastery as in the evil character of Iago.”[3] The mystery surrounding Iago’s actual motives continues to intrigue readers and fuel scholarly debate.”

Iago was far more benign than the jihadis–as A Solzhenitsyn pointed out in TGA, Iago understood that he was doing evil, while world-historical monumental evil on a Stalinist (or Mohammedan) scale can only be achieved by those who believe they are doing good. AS’s great line, IIRC: “Shakespeare’s villains stopped at a dozen corpses.”
Not so Mo. Or “Uncle Joe.”

There is a difference in the type of ad that promotes religions or cults, and the type of ad that falls within the category of ‘help’ type social ads, like abused kids, battered women, drug and alcohol abuse help programs, those caught in cults like islam, or any other cult and there are many religious cults
ALL THESE ABOVE TYPE ADS BELONG IN PUBLIC PLACES AND SERVE TO HELP INDIVIDUALS AND BUILD COMMUNITY
AND PAMS ADS ARE JUST ONE OF THIS TYPE
HOWEVER, Ads soliciting participation in religions, cults, churches, can easily be mandated against on every city council.
I would walk before taking any public transit vehicle that was allowed by any city council to permit religious advertising on the publically funded transportion.
When I last visited New York, I took the buses back and forth, upper and lower, but sure as heck would not have ever ridden on one advertising any type of religion.
This is outragous. Get the religious advertising off public transit

Keven J. Hasson, President of the Becket Fund, recently stated, “…the American and Soviet systems…offered differing visions of freedom and human nature.” The missing element in every human ‘solution’ is an accurate definition of the creature.
In the Bible, God’s Word has accurately defined the human being as ‘the earth creature endowed with the ability to choose.’ His natural Rights, therefore, are merely an extension and application of natural human endowments, which all humans – everywhere in the world – possess. Even as goldfish, canaries, and puppy dogs require an environment based on their natural features, so humans require external freedom to fulfill their natural internal abilities of choice, selection, election, and consent. Uniquely, America was founded on this definitive paradigm in human nature. All nations should reject foundational human opinion that teaches otherwise.
Further, God’s gift of criteria for choosing between alternatives supplies us with superior standards for successful visionary choice-making. Humans cannot invent (or replace) criteria greater than self, ACLU to the contrary.
Defining ‘human’ accurately is the first step in establishing accurate and successful environments, institutions, and creative relationships for earth’s Choicemaker. Middle East governments, and all leaders, would do well to pay attention: nature and nature’s Creator speak with an authoritative voice. Psalms 25:12 119:30, 173 Joel 3:14 Selah
No one is smarter than their criteria. What, if any, is Obama & muslims definition of’human?’

I think what these two guys (Aquinas and Maimonides-and they appear to have arrived at the same conclusion separately) are saying re Gd is is that words are absolutely impossible to grasp this Absolute Being. The best we can do is list what Gd is not to even glimpse what Gd is.

Many of us remember similar comments by men – reacting to women demanding new protective laws – against marital rape, ‘domestic’ abuse, sexual harassment at work:
– Men-hating (read:Ball-breaking) women insinuating that all men are rapists.
– Men-hating women wanting to incite other ‘contented’ housewives to hate men (so they would not be alone).
– Men-hating women promoting the idea that all men (not just a small minority) beat up their wives.
– Men-hating women wanting to get back at bosses who ‘refused’ them.
We heard all the usual things – that women like us (emotionally unstable) were what aggravated men – men who are unable to get work are frustrated (=aggressive) – unspoken: women have taken these men’s jobs – and are therefore ultimately responsible for their own bruises.
I still occasionally hear (Europe 21st. century) that one cannot expect men to have the same self-control as women!
GOOD NEWS: We won those battles – we shall win these too – if we are willing to work together.
