AFDI ad copy contest: Pick your favorite quranic quote for our new ad campaign

74

Hamas-CAIR has unveiled a new ad campaign to "counter" our historic
anti-jihad ads
running in lighted display cases on Washington DC Metro train platforms. Our now-famous ad reads,  "In any
war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man.
Support Israel, Defeat jihad."

Counter-Ads quoting Quran coming to DC Metro FOX DC

MetroAd
CAIR's 16-foot banner ads are
scheduled to go up this week and stay
up for a month in stations featuring our AFDI ads (Glenmont, Georgia
Avenue/Petworth and U Street). CAIR's
"counter" ads feature an abrogated verse from the Quran (above). Why is a little girl wearing a
covering? Is she considered a sexual object?

Story continues below advertisement

Citing the quran, are we? I think that's a grand idea. AFDI is launching a new ad campaign much like Hamas-CAIR's. Here is the ad we have submitted to WMATA. I want to thank Hamas-CAIR. What a wonderful way to educate millions of Americans on what is that book. We hope to feature all of the verses that call for jihad.

Anti-cair 1013

This is the first of our series. Here are a few of the quranic verses we intend to highlight. These are my top picks. Atlas readers, I'd like your input. Which verse for our next ad?

Surely the vilest of animals in Allah's sight are those who disbelieve — 8:55

Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers — 3:151

Lo! Those who disbelieve Our revelations, We shall expose them to the
Fire. As often as their skins are consumed, We shall exchange them for
fresh skins that they may taste the torment. Lo! Allah is ever Mighty,
Wise. – 4:56

Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye
find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for
them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the
poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
— 9:5

Lo! those who disbelieve, among the People of the Scripture and the
idolaters, will abide in fire of hell. They are the worst of created
beings.– 98:6

Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into the enemies of Allah and your enemies — 8:60

Muhammad is the apostle of Allah. Those who follow him are merciful to
one another, but ruthless to the unbelievers. — 48:29

Righteous women are therefore obedient, guarding the secret for God's
guarding. And those you fear may be rebellious admonish; banish them to
their couches, and beat them. — 4:34

When you meet the unbelievers, smite their necks, then, when you have
made wide slaughter among them, tie fast the bonds; then set them free,
either by grace or ransom, till the war lays down its loads. — 47:4

Lo! those who disbelieve, among the People of the Scripture and the
idolaters, will abide in fire of hell. They are the worst of created
beings. — 98:6

Many will say that Deuteronomy and other Biblical books have violent passages as well. However, nowhere do the Jewish or Christian Scriptures tell all believers in general to wage war against unbelievers as such. Only the Qur'an contains such passages. Also, Islam, unlike Judaism and Christianity, has never gone through a period of reformation and enlightenment either involving or resulting in any thoroughgoing reevaluation of the literal sense of its sacred texts. This is why you do not see Jews or Christians slaughtering unbelievers and justifying their actions by quoting their Scriptures, while Muslims around the world do this with depressing frequency.

UPDATE: David Wood of Answering Muslims points this out in the comment section:

Surah 7 (quoted in the CAIR ad) is a middle Meccan Surah, meaning it was "revealed" to Muhammad when he was still a persecuted "prophet" in Mecca with only a few dozen followers. The "revelations" he received during this time called for peace, not because Islam promotes peace, but because Muslims were in the minority. Later, when Muslims formed a majority, Muhammad's "revelations" suddenly called for the violent subjugation of all non-Muslims (see 9:29, for instance, which was "revealed" shortly before Muhammad's death).

Interestingly, the context of the verse quoted by CAIR is a collection of condemnations of the religious beliefs of the polytheists of Mecca (see 7:190-198, for instance, which immediately precede 7:199). Why is this important? Because groups like CAIR assure us that it's wrong and immoral to criticize the religious beliefs of others. Yet they go to the most peaceful period in Muhammad's career, and even here we find Muhammad condemning the beliefs of others!

Excellent idea Pam. You and Robert need no help from us to choose a suitable quote, but i would sugest that you consider using a photo of a victim of the message in the quote you use. For example, those two young Christian girls from Indonesia kidnapped on the way to school and found beheaded in a ditch. Try “Slay the idolators wherever you find them”. Finish with the word “Savages” and a question mark.
Let CAIR spin their way out of THAT picture.

Just to keep it simple and highly relevant, this quote:

Combined with the twin towers picture says it all and then some. Truly awesome, haunting, and unforgettable.

There are some few “nice” verses in the Koran. Of course there would be! How else could you sell such a vile text such as the Koran? It is like the poisoned drink. The murderer disguises the poison with honey. Also for every “nice” verse there are 20 nasty ones. And the “nice” verses were written when MohamMAD was in Mecca and was not in charge. When he moved to Medina and gained power then you see the real Hitler/Stalin/MohamMAD.
But anyway, which are the verses that the Imams preach? Is it forgiveness? Were the 20,000 murderous Jihad tacks of just the last 10 yrs inspired by “Show forgiveness, speak justice…”? If Islam is so wonderful, why are its deeds so awful?

I wouldn’t do that Pam. No need to get that graphic. That would disgust everyone to the point that everyone, along with the Jihadists, would be demanding the ads be removed.

Qur’an (4:34) – “The good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them”

In addition to the Koran verses, I would suggest trying to put as much concise teaching as possible on the ads in anticipation of the misleading ‘but the Bible has violent verses, too’ cry, or the ‘you’re taking this out of context’ cry. In other words, answer their predictable, inevitable rebuttals in advance, in order to arm people with the truth in this information war. God bless you.

Well, if your hands are tied to THAT extent, what about that table a few weeks back that showed the number of jihadi attacks during ramadan, contrasted with the number committed by white “racists”, thats just bald arithmetic, shame about the picture thing though.
However a sad eyed Western or Asian “moppett” looking up at camera against a cruel and islamic quote, while less instantly powerful, may prove to be a better bet in the long run.

Another thought re: Koran verses, you could use those that were part of Mohammed Atta’s final instructions with his words to introduce them:
“Read al-Tawba and Anfal [Surahs 8 and 9] and reflect on their meanings and remember all of the things God has promised for the martyrs.”

4:34 really needs to be talked about. People need to know that Islam mandates straight up IN THE SCRIPTURES that a woman is to be beaten.
Also, that hadith about women being deficient in intelligence and piety … and the one about how according to Muhammad, most of the inhabitants in hell are women.
Also, I think it would be more effective to highlight Muhammad’s life story. Can we TALK about Aisha? His “favorite” 6 year old bride.
I think this would be more effective, because if we get in a battle of scriptures out of context there is arguments to be made from “their” side. There are violent text in the Torah. Jesus DID say he came to bring the sword. (Obviously, if you READ the Jewish and Christian stories… it becomes clear that it was GOD ALONE that was paving the way for the Jews, and that Jesus was talking about the choice every person must make about who he is, even if it means destruction of extremely important relationships, like mother and daughter… ect.
In my opinion, maybe ONE rebuttal ad with verses, then to go back to the issues of equality before the law and no special treatment. I like to emphasis SEPARATION of religion and state, and that is what is most relevant to the public — That Islam IS NOT compatible with our values. — from a practical, actual, real-life way. The scriptures are secondary to many people, again, because there are violent text in other sources. I do think scriptures are completely important, but they need an informed discussion to put it all in context. An advertisement isn’t able to do that.

My favorite, the Satanic verses:
“Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-‘Uzzá
and Manāt, the third, the other?
These are the exalted gharāniq, whose intercession is hoped for.”
Allah, (Gabriel, or Satan?) recommends to Mohammad that he worship three Meccan moon goddesses.
Much more positive attitude toward women than found in the rest of the Koran. LOL

Their wording reminds me of Cuba’s approach to being good world citizens. On a recent bus tour there, the tour guide began her introduction by say: “Hello, everyone, we love Canadians and we love all people, but we don’t like Americans.” Muslims are asked to show forgiveness, speak justice, but forgiveness and justice are not extended to the ignorant. Who are the ignorant? In their vocabulary, it is all who do not support (for now) or convert to Islam/

“Lo! those who disbelieve, among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters, will abide in fire of hell. You could also have a photo of a woman in full black burka (just two eyes peering out) with the quote: “Righteous women are therefore obedient, guarding the secret for God’s guarding. And those you fear may be rebellious admonish; banish them to their couches, and beat them. “– 4:34

My nomination: Quran 9:29. A clear, unambiguous call to violence:
Fight those from among the People of the Book who believe not in Allah, nor in the Last Day, nor hold as unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have declared to be unlawful, nor follow the true religion, until they pay the tax with their own hand and acknowledge their subjection.
And, for those insisting that it’s quoted “out-of-context” (the usual tired defence by adherents to the Religion of Peace, and their dhimmi backers), I have bad news: the “context” is no better… Q’uran 9:28 talks about non-Muslims being “unclean”. While Q’uran 9:30 throws “a curse” on non-Muslims. The full passage of verses can be seen at the link above…

Excellent idea ! And thank you Pamela for all your efforts. I like this verse —
Quran (9:14) – “Fight them, Allah will punish them by your hands and bring them to disgrace…”
though not commonly used to exemplify the evil that is Islam, I like it because it illustrates the directive for all Muslims to carry out the words and deeds of Mohammad / Allah …. The obligation of jihad upon all Muslims .

Pamela,
We don’t want a “Reformation” within Islam. We’ve already got one happening now. That’s what we’re fighting against.
The Christian Reformation was a return to the authority of Scripture, which meant a return to the truth that God has forgiven all people’s sins freely and completely in Christ, the Messiah promised throughout the Law and Prophets. It meant a return to “Love your neighbor as yourself,” and “Treat others the way you want to be treated,” the core foundation of modern conceptions of human rights and Western Civilization itself.
In Islam, a return to scripture means a return to “kill the pagans wherever you find them” and the rest of their hellish doctrines. We don’t want that! We want Islam’s core doctrines utterly demolished and rejected.

I’ve long contemplated a flyer offensive. This is so much better!
Don’t neglect hadith or sira:
“Allah’s Apostle said, ‘. . . I have been made victorious with terror . . .'” (Bukhari Volume 4, Book 52, Number 220).
“Narrated ‘Aisha: that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death)” (Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 64 and 65).
“Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him” (Bukhari Volume 9, Book 84, Number 57).
“War is deceit” (Bukhari Volume 4, Book 52, Number 268).
“Allah’s Apostle said, ‘The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say, “O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him”‘” (Bukhari Volume 4, Book 52, Number 177).
And one especially-eerily-numbered ayah:
“Allah hath purchased of the believers their persons and their goods; for theirs (in return) is the garden (of Paradise): they fight in His cause, and slay and are slain . . .” (Qur’an 9:111).

I *don’t* like the “dueling quotes” game. Most people won’t know what, really, to believe.
I’d vote for a stats game: number of “honor murders” over a period, by country, by decade…? by continent…? world-wide…? Or, “honor killings” by type: beheadings, slit throats, etc.
Something else? Number of suicide bombers and number of victims…?
There must be some gruesome stats that can be assembled.
I think the “dueling quotes” campaign is down in the weeds, comprehensible to those who already know, but not convincing for the uninformed, uninitiated. ….Lady in Red
